I definitely don't think my form is good. My low bar form is similar to Layne Norton's. Then again, some people don't even consider low bar squatting to actually be squatting. I would love to squat high bar, but I don't have the mobility yet (mainly ankles and calves/shins) and the bar resting on my traps is ridiculously uncomfortable to me.I have an eerie feeling your're not squatting properly.
Yo. I did some quick searches and the Adidas Powerlifts aren't as expensive as I had anticipated. I thought that I'd be seeing some prices around $190 and up. Will consider. The main problem with the Free's outside of the somewhat soft sole are that they feel so delicate; I'm used to heavy shoes with tough support so I have to get used to the lightweight feel if I continue to use them for squatting. Worst case scenario, I'll just use the Free's for cardio (which is why I originally copped them) and use my Rose 4's for everything else.
Buy some of the cheapest Adidas powerlifts and squat in those.
Hell id go barefoot before using Frees personally.
Yeah I need to hear more about this @DahStoryTellalow bar squat is not a real squat? who says that?
It should be one fluid movement. Everything moving as one.I got my one friend to start squatting and he started complaining of knee pain. I told him if he is squatting properly he wouldn't have knee pain.
Turns out he's been primarily breaking at the knees rather than hips. I've seen conflicting information all over the internet but most say break at the hips. I personally initiate with both but I haven't had any sort of pain aside from a sore back a few times when I lose tightness in the hole. What is the "correct" way to initiate a squat?
I told my friend to work on his mobility issues but I don't think he has at all. Now he wants to go back to squatting and says he'll just go light.
I figure I tried helping him but he won't listen so I can't do anything else. If he hurts himself, he hurts himself.
Yeah, I've suggested this for him and he ignored my advice. His solution is to just stop squatting.Maybe he needs knee sleeves. I always seem to have iritation/pain in my knees when I squat without it benzilla427
Yeah, that's what it feels like for me. Hard for me to help my boy out cause I've never really seen him squat. He doesn't seem to follow whatever advice I give him so I guess I'll just give up trying to help him lolIt should be one fluid movement. Everything moving as one.
Just sit back as you drop down. Stay on your heels through midfoot and keep the bar in a straight path.
This.Layne has horrible squat form, if you squat like that you have tight hips and weak quads probably.
Even on some Mark Rippetoe squat videos, you might find some comments like "That's not really a squat. It's more like a glorified good morning." I've seen some forum posts with similar sentiments.
Observe a child squat – it will never ever perform anything remotely resembling a low bar squat. That’s because the low bar squat is a man made game which the child is taught later on.
A proper squat is done in an upright position and the quadriceps are largely involved. That’s a true squat. It’s mostly done by weightlifters in order to build leg strength for the clean & jerk. You will rarely see a weightlifter do low bar squats, if ever.
Don't go extreme on us lol that's for Chinese weightlifters
What I should do is cop some AdiPower's and modify them like this to eliminate all mobility issues...

High Bar squats take a lot of mobility, and it definitely destroys the ego if you are coming from a sports background.
Had to deload tons, and mobilize a lot to get comfortable with the HB Squat.
Did the CF Football cert a couple of weeks back, they do the low bar squat. I struggled going to my old ways. Good thing I guess.
Come compete with me in December dog its time you stop playin
Layne Norton's squat is hard to look at even if he is strong..... but the way he hypes himself up bothers me even more lol
