Tekashi 69 lookin at RICO

All facts my homie worked as a paralegal and he told me the biggest street dudes snitch on the regular. Think about it if ur facing 25 yrs in jail and all u gotta do to get out is tell on someone you think they gon say no?

Be it street dudes or the mob. That no snitching code gets disregarded quick once those potential years are on the table. Granted it’s some who will keep quiet, do the time and chalk it up as that’s a cost of living that life. But a lot of people will start naming names quick if it gets them off. Especially if they think the people they’re snitching on don’t have the power or means to get them or their family touched.

I live down south and have been into hip hop in general my whole life but was introduced to southern hip hop and listened to it since whoop and whoomp there it is. I have a large trap playlist that rivals anyone from down here.
ppl don't want to say these dudes mumble but they mumble. no i'm not talking about da baby or migos.
i'm not going to sit here and pretend like rappers from the south now sound as coherent as rappers from the south then.

lol i'm not someone who didn't leave my borough. I feel how I feel based off of what i'm hearing.
everybody down here isn't playing da baby and again, i'm in charlotte.

but aight, you guys got it. nobody is mumbling. everybody spitting bars out here now.

That’s your experience. Dudes are spitting. NBA Youngboy is a rap prodigy. He’d be regarded as such had he come out in the 90s/early 00s.

But Bun B touched upon this on drink champs, and how he’d take offense to the label of “mumble rap”.....and how him and some cats out the South experiences the same **** when they first hit the scene. Shoot, it took me a minute to know what Houston culture was about in 05. Imagine listening to still tippin in 05...and being completely unfamiliar with their lingo. You’d think they weren’t “rapping about nothing” but they were absolutely spitting some clever ****.

@36:50 min mark

I can't post examples since i'm at work but aight bro.
like I said before, I left my borough, city, state and region. even before then I had an open mind and rocked with a lot of stuff ppl around me weren't into. just like now with Griselda (or years ago with dipset). and migos before they blew. i been on that and *****s laughed. now ppl rock with them. that's cool, i'm glad.

i'm not buying what ppl are selling. are there ppl from the south (such as bunb) that aren't mumbling? yeah.
but these *****s riding around aren't listening to that like that. i'm going by what i'm hearing. in the south.

I've been familiar with the lingo. its not that I can't understand. its not that i'm out of touch, like I said, I like what I like too and have a huge playlist of nothing but trap and other southern hip hop.

@cragmatic It's basically what wavycrocket wavycrocket said, the 'Gatekeepers' pushing Soundcloud, troll and clone for monetary reasons.

Yup.

JuiceWRLD, NLE Choppa and Lil Tecca coming seemingly out of nowehere and dominating billboard is an example of this.

That kind of music is marketed to young kids...who are active on all social media platforms and decide what is “hot” in the 13-20 demographic. And it’s mostly white suburban kids. It’s not supposed to be “for us”...but we’re made aware of it because it’s under the umbrella of “rap”. And the rap crowd of previous generations give a lot of attention to the things they’re are supposed to hate. Making young rebellious people naturally LOVE it in a troll era.

This is why Six9ines trolling worked. It got attention. Good or bad. Basically, a lot of this **** is the FORTNITE of rap. And gaming, YouTube, ig etc platforms push this out. All places where young adults spend a lot of time. Then they shoot a lyrical lemonade video and No Jumper interview. And Boom. Star. Cycle rinse and repeat.

It’s like how NBA 2K decided to cater to 12 year olds because of Micro Transactions and kids using their parents credit cards to buy **** on there.

What about the 25 and up crowd? 25-35? What are they listening to? What artists are geared towards them?

Ross, Jeezy, Future slide in there for some of us. I mess with Dolph, Moneybagg Yo, Kodak, Meek. Most of us just turned into our parents, listening to old stuff, talkin about, ‘Now THIS is real music/hip hop!’

throw peewee longway in there...not for everybody but I like sauce walka...a few others if we're talking about the south.
i'd never tune out someone based off of age tho. you never know til you know. at least go in with an open mind.

I rocked with bankroll fresh but he got killed.
skippa da flippa.
rocked with the whole migos/skippa/rich thing but they split so...
migos music is different than before so I chilled on that.

For “our demographic”? The more traditional hip hop crowd that’s largely still connected to hip hop of the 90s/00s....that Demo listens to:

The guys that came in around 09/10 (Future, Meek, Drake, Cole, Kendrick, Nip etc). And they SELL Too (with the exception of nip til recently). This is on the mainstream side of course. And this is mostly the men in rap....in the traditional-ist sort of lane. All of them our directly related to golden era to early 00s acts and luminaries. Then you have the holdovers that are relevant from the previous era and retain a certain level of cool. Jay, Nas, Ross, Fab, Pusha, Jeezy, Gucci, Tip, Ye etc. Those type of guys. And I’m speaking mainstream level. There are a few others that fit here too. Depending on your tastes....the trap/street rappers from any region with undeniable club bangers...couple lyricist here and there. And some experimental rappers or specific lane rappers (ie Curren$y) etc round it up.

Everybody going to have different taste in music...but if you came up around a certain time within those age ranges you listed...you’d see a mix of that right now in some fashion on the mainstream level.

Never understood why people care what other people are listening to, because now, more than ever, we have choices. Mumble or Soundcloud rap being popular doesn't prevent you from listening to whatever style you like. I know and care very little about any of that stuff but I always have a running list of music to turn to (new Little Brother, Ghostface, Goldlink, Danny Brown soon, etc.).

for me its less about caring about what another person likes and more about caring for the genre of music I was basically born into and seeing it change for the worse.
like the genre isn't really being moved forward. IMO.
a bunch of ppl are being pushed by machines that don't care about their craft, legacy (which translates to better music), etc.
labels don't care about artist development.
like the love of creating music seems to be gone and replaced by chasing a quick buck for the artists and the labels.

I hear ppl say what you said but its like we've always had a variety so its not like some new thing that we have variety now with soundcloud, youtube, etc.
we've always had a mainstream and an underground.

we need balance, quality... there's a huge difference between the quality then and now IMO.

Not sure I agree on the difference in quality or lack of a balance. Mainstream has had its waves, and there's always been a mix or balance within that. Whole No Limit era. Petey Pablo. Chingy. Nelly. Trick Daddy. Not passing judgment on all that stuff, but there's more than enough of that balance to talk about year to year in hip hop.

Did you just group Trick Daddy and Chingy together??
