The Bicycle Thread

Planet X has a great carbon clincher wheelset. They come in 40, 50, and 60 mm rim depths and I believe they retail for $760 on their USA website, but I caught a set on sale for $599 around Christmas. It's a little higher price point, but for around $1100 Williams Cycling has some great options for carbon wheelsets.

I swear by the Mavic Ksyrium alloy wheels that were on my CAAD; lightweight and always true. On the other hand, these carbon wheelsets have advanced in technology so much that you get the best of both worlds as far as climbing and aerodynamic abilities, plus the braking surfaces have vastly improved a la Mavic's Exalith technology.

I no longer own them but here are two bicycles that I've owned in my youth:

1998 GT

1999 Haro

The weather is getting nice now, the evening bike rides are getting addicting. I'm in the market for a new helmet. I've been using the Giro Savant the last few years, but looking for something less alien-like. Any recommendations?

Wheelset worth upgrading on a cheap hybrid bike with cheap mountain bike components (Shimano Altus)?

Problem though is that on any smooth, slightly downhill roads, I can spin out on the highest gear. If I get lighter wheels, I'm afraid I might spin out on a flat road at top gear :lol

700

not my pic but same bike. Love it. Thinking about changing to a better fork though. Any recommendations?

thinking of getting a fixed gear . daily use , light travel. i was recommended unknown brand , aventon and prime. any insight on those brands or some in general?

looking at getting an Adventure Road Bike.

my choices right now are a Trek Crossrip LTD or a Specialized Diverge DSW.

anyone have either?

Pulled the trigger on the Caad12 and its amaze-balls.

did you go with the Shimano 105?

how is the weight?

Ultegra. 16.5 lbs.

I got a great deal. I initially was going to cop from REI since they had the best deal in my area $2100. All my LBS wanted 2300+ until one said $1850 otd. They werent allowed to sell Cannondale instore since there was already a Cannondale seller 2 min up the street.

My landlord said their was a big falling out between the 2 stores and that may be why I got such a good deal.

I was trying to decide between a Trek Emonda SL6 or a Specialized Tarmac Comp but I think I waited too long and all the good sales for the year happened in the spring. Guess I can hold off till next year. Anyone have either model and can provide any feedback?

The good deals dont start til August - October.

just put in an order for a Specialized Diverge Elite DSW.

it comes with a Tiagra groupset which ive heard is almost as great as a 105.

this will be the longest week of my life waiting for it. lol.

Nice I'll have to keep on the lookout online and elsewhere. My local shop usually has their biggest sale in the spring.

You should settle on the bike and groupset. That way you know a good deal when you see it. Craigslist is always a great option. That was my first option but 60cm is hard to come by in my area on the used market.

The more worrying parts are the gel seat cover and the fact that the front brake isn't connected!
