NY Post saying the BE schools are holding a teleconference with Aresco today and putting out a statement this afternoon about their departure.

And there is this from Katz:

1. While the Big East's seven non-FBS basketball schools are deciding what course of action to take next, there is one school that would love to be a part of any new conference or conglomerate: Gonzaga. Sources say the Zags would love to part with the West Coast Conference and be a member of a national, branded basketball conference. The theory is that if Boise State and San Diego State can be in the Big East for football, then why couldn’t Gonzaga in a basketball version? Of course, the easy response is that football is played once a week and there is usually a maximum of four or five league road games. Still, the Zags are looking out for themselves and would like to be positioned with fellow national Catholic-based schools instead of regional ones in the WCC. Gonzaga might not have a choice, but is starting to be a bit more proactive if an opportunity arises.

along with Gonzaga - Zagoria is saying targets are: Xavier, St. Louis, Butler, VCU, St. Mary's and Dayton for a 14 team league.

Rashad Vaughn has been receiving more buzz lately.. Baylor among others. And yeah, Kentucky. But he's said in interviews he's definitely interested in Minnesota, and take it with a grain of salt: reports are he has worn U of M sweatshirts and U of M hats to football games.

Not that it already hasn't happened, but still a ton of time for Calipari and Drew to lasso him in. And it probably wouldn't be hard.

3:38PM EST December 13. 2012 - The decision to leave has been made. Now the question is when and how to do it.

The seven Catholic, basketball members of the Big East Conference have decided to announce their departure from the league, according to two people with knowledge of the discussions. The two spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because the talks were supposed to remain confidential.

An announcement that Villanova, Marquette, St. John's, Seton Hall, Providence, Georgetown and DePaul plan to break away is not likely to happen until the schools decide how they want to proceed.

When negotiations for a new television deal had projections twice and as much as three times smaller than the deal which was in place with ESPN, the Catholic schools met as a group with Aresco to express their concerns. They met again on Sunday night in New York with a sense of unity they had not previously felt or displayed.

Finally, after deliberating, the collective decision was that it would be best to end the arrangement with the Big East as it currently is structured. Although Aresco made repeated efforts Thursday to reach some compromise which would keep the Catholic schools in the Big East, the odds of that happening appear to be minimal at best.

Now, the biggest problem will be how to get through the break up as quickly and painlessly as possible.

The problem facing both the departing schools and Big East commissioner Mike Aresco is in the settlement terms.

The basketball schools have two options. They could withdraw as a group. Normally that would entail an exit fee of at least $10 million and a 27-month waiting period. But in 2003 former Big East commissioner Mike Tranghese pushed through an agreement that would eliminate the exit fees for either the football side of the conference or the basketball side if they left as a group. A two-year waiting period would still be enforced.

But by leaving, the basketball schools would forfeit receiving their part of the growing total of exit fees that have been paid or will be paid by Big East schools such as West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Rutgers and Notre Dame, all who have left or are in the process of leaving the conference. They would also forfeit the valuable Big East "name'' and other residuals, including an automatic berth in the NCAA basketball tournament.

To avoid this dilemma, the Catholic schools could push through a vote distributing the exit fee assets immediately and also negotiate a deal where they would take the "Big East'' name with them.

The second option is more radical. The Catholic schools could vote to dissolve the league. With 7 votes out of 10 being cast (Connecticut, South Florida and Cincinnati are the other), the Catholic schools would have the 2/3 majority to pass that measure.

Once that was done, the outstanding bills of the league would be paid and the assets would then be divided among the 10 members. But everything else disappears including the current agreements in place with football and basketball, naming rights for each conference and the issue of not only spots in the new football system of playoffs and bowl games as well as the NCAA tournament spot which is guaranteed to the Big East tournament champion.

"It's a very involved process and I'm not sure if the basketball schools have anyone in place to orchestrate that,' said one of the officials. "No matter what the ultimate decision, it's going to take some time.''

Yeah as good as Kendrick and Jaylon you can tell that this team will only go as far as Jabari takes them. I didn't really expect much from him actually seeing as though he's only been on a court for a week after being forced off for 5 months. Ehh.

Nuts. N'Western was a fringe tournament team again this year with him (felt they would have fell short, again, though)... they even beat Baylor on the road where he had 19 points and 5 boards.

Never like to see injuries. Team tweeted they're "very confident" he'll get a 5th year medical waiver. If he had played even just one more game, he would most definitely not get that 5th year.

You have to play under 30% of your team's schedule.

Reminds me of Nuke, Janzen, and Edwards @ Tenn two years ago. I vaguely remember them posting their wares from Wal-Mart on Twitter.. one thing leads to another and they're picked up for armed robbery in their Tenn gear.
