The Combat Jack Show Thread

2Chainz is the best example. A rapper being signed to another rapper just sitting there then grinded his way to becoming a superstar. Def Jam was probably thinking "Is this the same _???"

Jim wasn't even a rapper, he was a hype man who major labels didn't want. Managed to pull off a 20 year career with little to no support from Cam.

That's why I don't feel sorry for theses dudes. They wanted Jeezy to put in the work that they didn't put in to make themselves hot.

How dare he do a song with Kanye West, he should have done a song with me instead

I wouldn't say no support from Cam. He put Jim on come wit me and diplomatic immunity. 2Chainz was literally just the tall dude in the background of videos. We thought he was Luda's goon/weed carrier.

Black Child was the ***** that had POV Anthem? I hated that beat but I would have still checked out his album.

I always checked out the group albums and some solo joints. Murderers was a good album.

Cam and Jim have been off and on for 20 years. From about 2005/2006 on Jim has been on his own. He got his deal on his own. Made his own contacts and relationships. He got his own crew. Never depended on Cam for anything. That's why Jim was never caught up like Vado and Juelz.

I don't think Cam appeared on anything after his first album for a minute.

JIm's solo career was pretty much all Jim, because he would have been Zeek if he didn't have his own worth ethic.

Jim's run from Diary Of A Summer and on is definitely all him.

Jim Jones the epitome of “chopping wood” because it was looking uglyyyyy for dude at one point in time.

Y’all know I roast Jim a lot but dude is good in EVERY hood on every coast. Jim Jones gets mad love nationwide.

He dropped “ballin” and was out of there. He hit the jackpot with his voice too. He always had that gritty, deep voice that people knew was him. It’s like when them reggae artists are born with deep voices, you got the cheat code if you bubble right.

It’s like his own voice was just waiting for him to really tap into his skills. Like dawg, you literally have a million dollar voice. Once he learned how to make songs it was over. Not to mention his ear for beats.

Jim really bubbled for real. Jim is adored from coast to coast. Can’t believe I forgot to mention him.

Jim is proof about what I was saying about Beans in the other thread. Beans career and buzz just stopped after Rocafella broke up. Jim kept working and used his connections/relationships to make a long lasting career.

I love Jim and I was one of the first to mention him in this thread but let's not forget Cam feat on Jim's first single (Certified Gangsta's).

Now as previously stated everything from Diary of a Summer onward is kinda on him.

Ballin really took him to the next level and even though he has had colder moments Jim always finds a way to bounce back and remain at least somewhat relevant.

He is definitely an example of got it out the mud but to be fair he was *** when he started. The chip on his shoulder differs from a dude like Beans who was beloved in the hood. Hell Beans was literally a hood star with 2-3 movies under his belt (yes they were Roc movies but they count).

It's not fair to say Beans didn't get the push he deserved they even tried to give him a label, clothing brand, and crew to run with.

Beans was damn near the Roc's version of Kiss albeit without the clever word play.

Beans had that distinctive voice and a true street image. I agree that he got in his own way a bunch tho (Kiss would never). Beans spent a year or two locked up while the ROC was still the Roc. I think they actually split during his last stint in jail. He came home with the B Coming which is arguably his best album but he also chose to go with Dame who was already on the outs with Def Jam and everyone who chose to rock with Jay.

“Without the clever wordplay”??

You SLEEEP. Beans was always clever with his words. He might be closer to Jadakiss than anyone. They’re very similar

Damn I hope I didn't buy that The Inc album but I think I did. Sons artist name was "black child", wtf.

I think Black Child was ok

Cadillac Tah was dumb, because you know that's not going to fly and then Tah Murda confuses the consumer. Is that a different person? And it's one thing to name your label Murda, but marketing wise that wasn't good either.

Why are they unpacking so ******* much about Mel in the first hour?

Damn :smh:

Nevermind I thought this was a pod ep. This is a patreon exclusive :lol :{

Jim just got lucky with We Fly High, that single gave him a bigger reach and a bigger deal but he’s not a big artist. None of his albums were gold or platinum, think We Fly High his only platinum single. He worked hard and put out mad **** but a lot of that **** didn’t sell.

Harlem and POME are damn good albums. I don’t like his new ****, don’t like how he flows now.

Went from Tah Murdah to Cadillac Tah when they were trying to push him his solo music but it was dumb. Reminds me when Killer Mike dropped Killer and C-Murder dropped Murder.

It's not really about being a big artist. The goal is being able to book shows, put out projects and maintain your lifestyle.

Blood Raw and Slick Pulla probably have regular 9 to 5's.

Mel went from a 40 something year old woman to a teenager with Symba on the JBP.

I wouldn't say I don't like his new ****. I just think he was rapping just as gud when he was running wit Max & Stacks

Also not mentioned in this example is after We Fly High, Jim started hanging around 50 & Dame
