The Combat Jack Show Thread

Everybody don't need to be Cole or Kendrick, there's an audience for everything. These labels aren't developing artist and artist don't know how to develop themselves so they start chasing ****.

I fear TDE is an independent label that thinks it's a major because of the artist who have been successful with joint ventures (Kendrick, sza, Jay Rock, Q) and they may be selling the others on the roster that dream. They need to handle their independent artist as such.

Interestingly, I look at Symba and Reason the same. They can rap and can put together songs but they're not quite connecting yet. The difference? One seems to have a major backing to be put in certain rooms and the other doesn't. I don't really know Symba's situation though

That's true but those dudes are independent or at least move as independent. The whole Griselda crew they drop whenever they want but again it took them years to get here.

A lot of them Detroit _'s been putting out music since 2011, 12, 13 but people ain't catch on until recently. Timing plays apart too.

Hoffa got the right cast around him now. Buddy with the white hat, can go. But Mecca (dude in the glasses) and dude in the red hat/fit be on point. Math needs to let them speak more

A “wise” person would let them lead, sit back and collect ala (I HATE to say this Adam22) sit back and let others carry interviews or conversations and sit back.

Same as what VLAD does with substitute interviewers.

But Hoffa probably doesn’t have sense enough to fall back.

I don't think rap is limited to Cole and Kendrick

It's people like Ab Soul and Symba who exist.

It's just the responsibility of the consumer more so than ever. I didn't like the Bad Boy and crunk **** that was coming out, so I was listening to underground rap. You have the power to dictate what you listen to, this ain't the 80's or 90's.

The issue is that people are followers more so than ever, so whatever is on social media or playlist is what's hot.

We're saying the same thing I feel. Those years it took those artist to get here was part of their development for the type of music they do.

Same. Growing up in Florida, I wasn’t listening to that booty shaking music.

JT money, Trick (even though he started with Luke) definitely no crunk or bass music.

I was always into lyricism, but I had a uncle who was into all that. My uncle had Shyheim albums, Wu Tang, etc.

I remember coming home from school and my uncle was playing T.I “I’m serious”

Meanwhile a lot of these artists are becoming stars when they can barley rap or perform. Cardi in 2016, Playboy Carti whatever year he was trash at the bet awards. I love Ice Spice but the girl is terrible performing.

it’s kinda wild to me that more executives folks haven’t turned that cardi b blueprint of likable social media personality with a following into an assembly line of acts at this point…

Ali seem way more level headed in this one, and not out of anger like the previous one.

He do sound bitter though.

So Nelly went to labels with a "Nelly only version" of the st lunatics songs? C'mon man. Nelly was the only clear star of the group. Cudda Love saw that, the label saw, fans saw that. On top of that the st lunatics album dropped right after Nelly's first album. Ain't like they was just sitting around.

Nelly stood out. It was obvious who's Michael.

Ironically City Spud was probably the 2nd best. He MAYBE coulda had some solo joints if ain't have to do a dime.

we’re on the outside looking in so he might very well have a reason to be ‘bitter’ about the initial process 🤷🏿‍♂️ but the context that is missing is how they eventually were able to get that group album & solo deals/album release and what was the discussion/process to that…

That money dried up. Nelly can still get booked and perform his classics but the lunatics don't have good solo catalogs.

that likely plays a part too, haven’t watched all the parts…did they talk about how/why the all fell out? the fact that they did get at least a couple shots w/the group album & some guys even got solo joints in some ways should negate some of bitterness (if it that is indeed what it is) but again you never know what it is and it can be frustrating knowing that people will usually take the bigger/more popular artist’s side

These grown men always want someone to hold their hands. Dudes be in they 40s. It’s soooo many ways to get money and evolve.

Dudes spent their money on frivolous stuff instead of being wise. It’s so many washed up actors and actresses that blew their money. It’s tons of ways to get it.

We’re in a new frontier now. You can get money in a plethora of ways now.

From my understanding is Ali, Murphy and Ky all wrote Country Grammar (song) cause Nelly didn’t like the beat. So he spitting their rhymes. Ali and Murph both confirmed they all wrote Country Grammar (album) together. So it sounds like the issue is Ali trying to get his publishing for that album. Nelly should give them their publishing or work that out, that’s foul.

I think the other issue was he was working with Nelly this whole time (concerts, making music and all that type) but Nelly would hold his money and not pay him over small petty **** he was mad about. You can’t hold a man’s, especially your man’s money cause you didn’t like that his wife said this or Ali didn’t dye his hair or something. That’s his money he earned.

Like I said I look forward to the interview but **** Ali. He was pro black his whole career and now pro Trump and Candace Owens and he super Pro Trump.

He addressed all that

He addressed all that

I saw that, I also saw Ali’s response to that like a week later on IG live which most people didn’t see.

I think both are wrong and handled it poorly. You outgrow your friends and people change but you can’t be holding or delaying this man’s bread cause you a little mad.

As for writing, I don’t know how that works as far as who gets the money but everyone is saying they wrote verses so they deserve theirs.

WHY WOULD YOU KEEP DOING BUSINESS WITH SOMEONE, who has finagled you time and time again?

That’s kind of idiotic. Dude has played with your money on countless occasions, but you think on the most recent of occasions, that it’ll be different?

Absolutely not. If you keep letting someone bird feed you after decades of friendship, then, you’re silly.

They been should’ve lawyered up or cut ties
