The Combat Jack Show Thread

Bro Lil Nas X said he started making music Summer 2018

You’re just misinformed on this particular situation. You talking like this is just some regular kid who been in his bedroom dreaming of being an artist for years.

When in reality this dude is responsible for some of the biggest memes to exist on Twitter and literally already had a platform with hundreds of thousands of followers as well  :smh:

He made a meme song capitalizing on a already popular twitter trend (yeehaw agenda/black cowboy) and then used his multiple meme accounts/platforms to distribute hundreds of memes to promote the song with the help of other popular meme/Internet personalities.

He’s more like Cardi than he isn’t. Her defining attribute is her personality/character, his is humor and ability to create viral memes. They both already had popular non music platforms that they leveraged into a career. He just popped off on his first swing while Cardi had to try and go the more traditional route.

Hers was a story line given to her.

His was something he started.

There's some similarities, but they are different.

Cardi already had fame. Instead of ratchet advice she could have been doings raps and songs also.

One wanted to be famous, the other wanted to be out the hood.

What?

His album came out in September of 2015.

He was winning Billboard streaming awards in 2016
American Music Awards in 2016

How long have Apple Music and Spotify been around?

“Again” was Fetty’s LAST hit. That came out in August 2015. Apple Music streaming started in June 2015.

Drake & Future’s WATTBA was one of the first projects that really promoted the service. Streaming took off from there.

My Way was released in July of 2015.

He won Billboard streaming awards in 2016

and Pandora, Spotify, Google, existed.

Streaming was factored in to his sales. Streaming in 2016 was added to factor in to gold and platinum certification. And they made some changes like adding YouTube.

The remastered version was released on iTunes in July 2015. Drake hopped on the REMIX in June 2015. The song had been a hit even before then.

Spotify streaming started taking off in the fall of 2015. All of fetty waps hits truly preceded streaming. RIAA didn’t even finalize the guidelines to streaming until early 2016.

Fetty Took off early 2014 and by Summer 2015...he’d run up all his hits. It was pre-streaming.

Bruh do you remember Tila Tequila? This is nothing new

Get some fame/notoriety and try and parlay it into music it’s a lot of people’s story line. They just jumping into rap these days vs Pop

The music is really the easy part tbh

It wasn't pre streaming, because streaming was still factored in. Streaming existed.

The RIAA handles certifications

You’re not understanding the history of steaming, and how streaming works . Fetty Wap preceded the steaming boom of what we know now today. He was a “viral” star...(Like Smurda) who’s music caught lightening in a bottle via social media...and made its way onto billboard/mainstream.

Streaming rules changed in Feb 2016

Fetty’s 4 hits preceded that. He just caught lightening in a bottle. Not everybody is an “album artist”. It’s clear Fetty wasn’t. Hell, he knew too. That’s why he cashed out and went ham like he did copping up everything and smashing everything .

Boy was an afterthought by late 2016 as far as artist to check for.

You still don't get it.

Streaming still existed, the rules just changed for platinum and gold certifications.

Fetty was still in the streaming era. That's why streaming factored in to his sales.

And if Fetty truly had four/five hits he would be an album artist. Chris Brown didn't have four hits out of forty songs. And some artist don't even have twelve songs.

He didn't want to cash out. He still makes music.

That whole Desiigner conversation.

He came out in 2010, Panda came out damn near when Pump It Out did. We both wanted to get off the label together. Three hours later.

Get over there and write some more Pandas

Willy Willy Willy Wonka. He was whispering at first to freak it. Why are you growling? Now I'm the Cookie Monster.

I think it was the last episode when Joe said it's too much **** to listen and watch everything. I still ain't listened to the Dreamville album. Been skipping over it like a mfer. Still need to watch season 3 of Peaky Blinders.

Parks casually dropping that Jeff Goldblum was trying to **** all of his girls when Joe randomly made a reference to him has me wheezing

A woman saving that ___ in her phone as "Jeff Goldblum" ?

I just finished it. Was pretty decent. Great conversation. Nothing crazy or special but it was good.
