THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Official Thread - 6/28 - TV Spot 10 on Last Page (More Selina Kyle)

I know it sounds silly since the trilogy is done but I agree withe RFX saying he was pretty much Robin(his real name) the whole movie. Him discovering the batcave hints at either him evolving into Nightwing or the next Batman.

My only complaints about the movie were that we didn't get Bane's back-story at the end and the way that he died was kind of weak. Also the way Thalia died was ridiculous. Other than those things, I loved this film.

We didn't get Jokers backstory either, nor did we get scarecrow's or catwomans back story. The only villain who's backstory we have is Two Face...

Also, I came across this -

Its even more so because people are trying to make more out of this film than what it really is. Looking TOO far into things coming up with theories and such when all they had to do in reality was pay attention to the details during the film.
Paying attention + a little common sense = you will get it in the end.
Bingo. I said this a few days. Just watch the movie and stop making things bigger than they really are. This isn't Inception.

I understand that. The only reason I bring that up is that for most of the movie we were led to believe that Thalia's story was really Bane's. When I found out that it was actually Thalia's, I was extremely interested in hearing Bane's. Especially since he said that he was born in darkness and didn't see light until he was a man...

technically we did get the true villain's backstory, in what we thought was bane's backstory..

talia was behind everything and really the one in charge

and i'm not sure how much more backstory we really need about the scarecrow other than what was given in begins.. we only got pieces of ras al ghul's backstory as it pertained to the other characters

Agreed.

I thought the Bane's origins were sufficiently explained in this (former LOS member, saves Talia, forced to wear device to moderate pain from beating in prison), as was Selina. With regard to the latter, I'm not sure how much we need to know about Selina given most of the audience's a priori knowledge of Catwoman. We know she steals as a means of survival (for both herself, and those in her community), so I'm not really sure why it's necessary to explain how she got to that point.

(As an aside, not explicating Joker's history in TDK was an intentional decision for a few reasons. First, there is not a definitive origin story in the source material. This is represented in the film by different explanations Joker provides for "how he got these scars." Second, it is consistent with the chaotic nature of the Joker. He simply bursts into Gotham without explanation. Indeed, one of the reasons the Joker works so well in the film is because we don't know why he acts the way he does. Feeding the audience reasons for his actions might actually depreciate his character. Finally, it's implied that Batman is in part responsible for his coming into being [refer to the interrogation scene and the line, "This is how crazy Batman's made Gotham!"], and that they are in some ways two sides of the same coin: justice and chaos. It's no surprise, then, that the ancillary villain in TDK is Two Face, who is the physical manifestation of this conflict.)

However, the character I would have liked to have seen explored further is Blake. For a character that is so crucial to plot development, and Batman's legacy, he felt particularly flat. For example: Why is he a police officer? How did he uncover Batman's identity? Also, his knowledge of the area near the sewers should have been made clearer.

Yes, but thats a twist in the plot. Thats part of what makes it so great. You are led to believe one thing, but then proven mistaken towards the end.

Thats movie/film plot-101 right there fam. Thats nothing that hasn't already been done.

And to be honest, Banes mystery is what makes the plot so great after that. We were led to believe that HE was the son of Ra's, but it was all for the building up of Thalia's character, linking it all back to the original film.

You're left thinking to yourself "I want to know more about Bane", leaving you to an unlimited supply of comics and cartoons for your reading and viewing pleasure. Thats also part of the fun. The film doesn't give you everything you need to know, so you get into the comics to fulfill your urge for more knowledge.

But look at it this way, the history that they showed in the film is the comics reality, Bane was born in that prison, he served his fathers sentence, he WAS born in that darkness.

Because Thalia's real background was traveling the world with her father, and losing her mother to drug abuse.

Truth right there.

Here's a short excerpt from Chapter 1 (Intro to Bane) of the movie's novelization. (courtesy of IGN):

From what I remember about Bane, wasn't he always taking orders from a woman? That's another reason why Thalia being the main villain makes sense to me.

But TDKR was :hat :hat :hat :hat

My guy, they did that as a means of "torturing" Bruce Wayne. They "took" it over from "corrupt" officials, giving people hope that they would rise from the corruption and lies and become strong. But Bruce knew the true motives of the city were to give people hope and then Bane would take it away from them, and then kill them.
It was all an elaborate scheme to make Bruce suffer and ultimately destroy Gotham. They talk about it at the end when Talia has knifed Batman, she says that the slow, twisting knife causes the most pain, referencing the slow death of Gotham.

They made that point very obvious in the movie. 6 months is a ridiculous amount of time, especially with having no one watching over Bruce in the jail. Why didn't they blow up the city as soon as Bruce got back? More torture?

Good analysis that might answer some of your questions on the ending...

So the ending went like this...

Batman used the Bat to take the nuclear bomb out to sea to let it explode there so he could save Gotham City. Which would make people think he died but in reality he didn't because that one scientist told Lucious Fox that Bruce Wayne fixed the Bat himself 6 months ago so that's how the Auto-Pilot thing worked. Then we see James Gordon looking surprised because while the city was now hailing Batman as a hero by building him a statue, there was no purpose to owning a bat signal if there is no Batman to come. By leaving John Blake the coordinates to the Batcave and restoring the bat-signal, he was gesturing to Gordon that if ever the city needs Batman, he'll be there. It's obvious that he's looking around for Batman after finding it restored. We also see before hand ...Alfred, James Gordon, Fox & Blake at his burial an Alfred starts crying and saying that he failed bruce's parents in which in he didn't which he later found out.

Later on we see they left something for Alfred when they're dividing up Bruce Wayne's assets, they note that Martha Wayne's pearl necklace is missing. If you recall, there's a tracking device on it. I've read that it's implied that Alfred followed the transmission, leading him to that cafe in Italy. Only then he notices Bruce along with Selina Kyle at a table an gives him the head nod as if the image he had in his head from earlier in the movie were true because bruce came thru in the end an saved everything himself. Though to the public eye bruce was dead and so was batman until Gotham needed him again. Funny thing is most people forgot the device he gave to her to wipe her identity and crime records from the system entirely so nobody would know about her anymore.

Finally in the end we see Blake in the bat cave trying to figure that place out only then he steps on the platform which indicates... "The Dark Knight Rises".

If people ask you why or how can James Blake become batman himself without training ...the answer is simple an it came from when Ra's Al Ghul said this to Bruce in the Batman Begins movie....""The training is nothing, the will is everything. The will to act."

Bro, I know what a plot twist is :lol. After thinking I knew Bane's history for basically the entire film, I just wanted to know his history with the prison. Like if Thalia would have just said two sentences while she was revealing her own history that would have sufficed for me. I don't really feel like reading the comics, that's just not my thing. I just thought including that could have enhanced the movie a little bit...

I'm with you mlps. I wanted to know about the darkness bane grew up in.

The plot twist was good tho I didn't see it coming.

Going to be in San Diego this Wednesday for a couple of days. Will be driving to Irvine solely to watch this in true 70 mm IMAX.

My body is too ready. :D

Movie was cool. I'll give it an 7.5/10
I liked the Dark Knight Rises better. The Joker was way more cerebral.

I'm confused, The "Dark Knight Rises" is the movie that just came out. "The Dark Knight" was the one with Joker. Which one do you like better.

And I don't think it's is accurate to say that Joker was way more cerebral than Bane.

Man some of you are seriously dense. You really need everything spelled out for you?

It's a superhero movie. The bad guy is not supposed to win. Every villain has a chance to dispose of the hero, but he never does. Why? Because the bad guy is not suppose to win. That's why superheroes are superheroes. The hell do you want? Bruce Wayne to rot in prison for the last hour of the movie then Gotham blows up?

I mean, ****. It's called suspension of disbelief.

Just got back from seeing it a second time, man it was just as good this time around. I still hold the thought that this movie is better than TDK and that's huge for me because TDK is one of my favorite movies ever. Just too spectacular on so many scales, Nolan can do no wrong.
Anne Hathaway was even prettier this time around
embarassed.gif

That sewer fight...... my goodness again. Too many notable quotes from Bane, the swagger was just stupid.
And at the very end, just to reiterate, there is in my mind absolutely no way that Alfred is envisioning them there. They are actually there. Why in the world would it make sense that Alfred would picture Selina there when he's only seen her once in the movie and even that one time was just a very quick 'bring the food up to his room, lock the door.' If Nolan wanted us to think Bruce was actually dead Rachel would've been with him at the restaurant.
My thoughts EXACTLY! Plus, there is mention that Bruce Wayne fixed the auto-pilot on The Bat.

Caught TDKR today, definitely met my expectations.

Loved how they tied the previous movies together, it was a fitting ending, imo.
