I believe Bruce also asked him to leave after he admitted to burning ugly Maggies letter in TDK.

Alfred already knew that telling Bruce that would end their friendship, so I think it was just understood by both

Alfred lets Bruce know that he wouldn't continue helping him because Alfred believed Bruce would end up dead. Bruce tries to talk Alfred out of it and justify his actions by bringing Rachel into the discussion. Alfred lets Bruce know about the letter. Bruce with a straight face says "Goodbye, Alfred" and then proceeds to walk up the staircase.

Yah but he was still hoping Bruce would give up being Batman and if that were his choice then he would have stayed. So I believe in the end it was just a mutual thing between them, both knew they were going their separate ways by the end of that conversation.

decent movie. not as great as people make it to be. definitely not better than tdk. watching bane was cool but i wish they chose a different actor with a better physique to play him. bane is supposed to be diesel as hell. wasn't feeling that bane was working for that chick either. i guess it was all the twists at the end that kind of made me discouraged. just wasn't feeling them and they were very predictable.

i've seen people say that this movie had more quotables than tdk. i'm going to have to strongly disagree with that.

Nolan really messed up people's interpretations of movie endings with Inception .

People thinking Alfred imagines Bruce now. They don't think anything's real anymore. They just needed Leo to make a cameo for an Inception reunion

OK, so we're all alone here? Good.
When I first saw that mushroom cloud go up over the harbor outside Gotham, I couldn't believe it. He'd done it, he'd really done it. Christopher Nolan hadn't just killed Batman, he'd nuked him, with no doubt that both Bruce Wayne and Batman were gone, leaving Alfred to grieve and Wayne Enterprises to figure out how to move forward without him. That certainty didn't last too long, of course-- Lucius talks to some Wayne Enterprises techs who admit that Bruce fixed the autopilot function before he took off with the bomb, meaning the Bat could easily have been unmanned. And then Alfred finds himself in Italy*, just as he'd dreamed, and sees Bruce having lunch happily with Selina Kyle, both of them having escaped their former identities and living freely.
It was a surprisingly happy ending for such a dark series. But I don't think you have to take it that way. As the Bat flies away from Gotham we clearly see Batman sitting in the driver's seat, with 5 seconds left to go on the bomb's clock before it sets off. If he in fact managed to get out of there so fast, how did he escape the bomb radius? And how the hell could he swim back? And while I know Nolan is allowed creative license and a serene spot for dear old Alfred to visit, doesn't it seem bizarrely coincidental that he'd see Bruce and Selina in the one place he'd imagined-- as the very smart Dave Lozo pointed out, is there just one cafe in Paris?
I'm not saying the ending presented to us cannot be true. I'm just saying it's not as simple as it might seem, and I don't think I'm the only one who walked out of the theater saying "Wait, is Bruce Wayne actually dead?" before being mocked by friends who took what Alfred saw at face value. Remember how much the spinning top in Inception drove us crazy for months? I'm confident Nolan was at least going for some dose of that confusion-- something to keep you talking and arguing as you leave the theater.
So is anyone out there with me? Do you at least think the ending is intended to be a little vague?

To be fair, I think I might be bigger than Hardy in this movie. I think I read that he weighed around 200 for this role, which is way to small for the mass and look I think they were trying to pull off. 

Its a shame too, he could have easily juiced after Warrior and put on that extra 20-40 pounds for the right look of Bane.

Just saw it yesterday...a very great ending to the trilogy...the whole gotham in utter chaos was beautifully done from the start of the football scene....I love how we might see the prequel of Robin in this film...great, extreme moments in some scenes.......i never wanted to see Batman f up Bane so bad....yeah lol this movie had me marking...

Was Selina Kyle ever called Catwoman? Or because she was a cat type burglar?

and who else would've thought if Heath Ledger was still alive that he would've played the judge instead of scarecrow? Joker would've been a great judge instead of Crane...

my only small complaints of the movie:

felt the ending was a little too rushed....I understand that you can't kill the hero off but why show him in the hovercraft just before the bomb is about to blow....at least show a scene where he ejects from it or something....

the last scene.... cafe scene where Alfred sees Bruce and Selina...didn't he already know that Bruce is alive and well? So why the whole emotional tearing up scene at Bruce's tombstone...I didn't like how that was executed...hence the whole rushed ending theory...there could've been a scene where Alfred receives a letter or something...

Bane...pure evil, great character and how he was presented...but to just be shot and killed by Selina for his demise....um that's it? Corny....couldn't understand some of his dialogue but whatever...Dent and Joker...even Rah's>>>Bane but i think mostly everyone agrees to that...

didn't like how that chief was all chicken hiding with his family but then all of a sudden had a change of heart and was part of the war btw the thugs and cops...

I've had over 24 hours to think this over but imo TDK>TDKR>BB
overall still very satisfied to a great ending to one of the greatest trilogies in this century...Bravo Mr. Nolan

^Joker as the judge would've truly been so dope...including him so subtly would've taken this film to higher heights.
but this was ultimately a great film, all in the trilogy have been but the finality that this film provides was just great to watch.
truly don't understand how people thinking that Bane is equal to the Joker or surpasses him is so far fetched.
Heath put on a great performance, no one can take that away, but I think that Tom Hardy was equally compelling.
The Joker was maniacal, but Bane was a savage.
dude really disconnected the entire city from any form of salvation from the outside world, even had the PRESIDENT addressing the situation.
locked an entire police force underground (c'mon man), and was the most physical adversary that we've seen take on Batman in any film adaption.
When he reveals that he's been plotting under the research and development dept. the entire time followed by "...and then, I will break you"?! classic...purely classic.
The hand to hand scenes were also incredible. Nolan wasn't lying when he described Bane's style as "calculated and gruesome"..dude beat the mask off this man.

Like many others have said: my only complaint is that it's over. 

And one question: was it common knowledge that Bruce was Batman? Those who distributed his will had to have been aware, but how exactly did he "die" if that was the case. I am still a bit lost in that regard.

Ok, you lift so you can tell ,but weightlifters are fraction of the audience. To the average Joe, he's huge and the camera angles did an excellent job of making him look even bigger. I guarantee he was right where Nolan wanted him.

she was never called cat woman, but small references kind of made it obvious she was, like her goggles when they are up, one scene i think she meowed or something, and the fact she was a cat burglar. for someone who has 0 knowledge of batman universe, unless u picked up those reference, you would never know she is called cat woman

True, like he is definitley bigger than the average person in this flick. Just not as brolic or roided out freak as I always envisioned him to be
