The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- Cannonier, Imavov, Reyes, Rosas on NOW

Sage ain't good RIGHT NOW but he has the potential to be. He's super athletic and has a good base to work with.

He reminds me of a young, raw GSP.

@ slandering a dude that stays humble and runs through every top contender available. Can't win with some of yall
MM will be one of those cases of an athlete is much more appreciated once he's gone.

He's methodical and does whatever the hell he wants in the cage. Dude is a phenomenal fighter.

When will cats realize that lack of ground game/jiu jitsu will get you exposed QUICKLY in the UFC. Striking ain't enough. You need a few years of grappling training to be competitive in the UFC (very generally speaking). That's why people like Maia, Kron, Khabib and Mackenzie have been pretty successful thus far.

You can become a competent striker far quicker than you can become a competent grappler. It takes TIME. If you get on the ground with someone who's been grappling much longer than you have, there's simply nothing you can do.

Yeah, mainly because the majority of MMA strikers aren't that advanced, and you can also learn just enough striking to setup the takedowns. A wrestler or BJJ black belt that works on having basic efficient/effective stand-up around the clock to catch up can eat. ****, if Phil Davis and Jake Shields were thriving in their divisions then any really strong grappler can. Pure strikers on the other hand gotta have A1 takedown defense or they're in trouble.

I think he would do well if he keeps training with Conor.

Anyone catch the submission king Gordon Ryan get submitted this past weekend by an IBJJF points fighter :rollin I'm a big fan but dude needed to be humbled real quick

I didn't catch Gordon's submission match, but it will be interesting to see how he and Gary does in MMA. I'm a bit worried that the leg lock style won't be fan friendly (Ryan Hall), but I'm still interested in seeing it.

It's the butt scooting style that fans don't like. But I think the general fan can appreciate grappling. Especially once legs are attacked.

His fight with Artem was exciting to me. Completely dismantled him with grappling

His fight with Maynard was a snoozer. It'll probably be another year before Dana puts him back in the octagon

Hey i respect DJ 100%, think he's def one of goats of the sport...

but the fact he is of small stature just doesnt do much for him on the ENTERTAINMENT side of the sport, people love to be entertained by bigger than life **** on the screen, like its amazing to see what DJ can dood to doods HIS SIZE, but unfortunately size hella matters. Again, I ain't slandering DJ but the truth is the truth.

You look at a guy like Jon Jones, tall, athletic af, BIGGER THAN LIFE, bones could probably whoop most people on planet earth and that does alot for his aura as a fighter and entertainer.

Brock Lesnar got that same thing going on, hes bigger than life, people look at that guy and go holy **** I wouldnt wanna run into that guy in a dark alley at night. People dont really say that about DJ.

That appeals to folks because in some way shape or form they fear and admire these doods stature.....unfortunately DJ doesnt really have that with most viewers.

Purists know what it is.

Would never happen because MM only fights no names :{

Him being the only known name in the division is why I think he gets underappreciated. Not his fault though. The only recognizable name he fought was Cruz and he lost that fight. Look at jon jones' resumé and it's full of legends and former champions. A lot of them would've held the belt if jones wasn't around.

As I mentioned in the Conor P4P discussions though, there are plenty of striking based Mixed Martial artists who compete at a very high level.

Matchmaking is everything when you're coming into the game leaning on one Martial Art vs. the other.

Ive seen Dillon Danis in the gym. No one would put him against a competent striker for a while if they expect him to win. Danaher's guys are obviously on to something with their attacks. Even against experienced Jiu Jitsu players. I'd expect that kind of matchmaking for a bit.

If you look at the striking in MMA, I'm not sure your belief that you can be a competent striker quicker than a competent grappler holds up. You can look good on the pads, but competition is a very different story. Being great at anything takes TIME.

Similarly, if you get in the ring with someone who's been boxing longer than you, you're likely not going to enjoy the experience.

And you don't just get to tap and reset. You usually have to stand there and take that beating until the round/s end.

You need to be well rounded across the board.

It's interesting to me to see how much guys like Nick and Nate, who have a jiu jitsu base, thirst to become genuinely ELITE boxers. Not just MMA boxers.

Sage rocked Gall. But panicked when he got rocked. So he may not be such a great "striker" after all if he can't handle adversity. He's a young kid who is very athletic and won a bunch of Karate tournaments and kickboxing matches and was PROMOTED as a great striker.

Dillon Danis is acting and talking like he can come right in and be champion. He's dead serious too, thinking because he trains with Conor that means he can be champ too

Hope someone slaps the hell out of him, I found it entertaining at first that he challenged Nate, because Nate started it... but now... nah man...

Dude was cringeworthy when he was on ariel's podcast a few weeks ago. Trying so hard to be like Conor lol
