The Official Anime & Manga Thread Vol: 三

I find it hard to call AoT one of the greats. Still aint finish s1 though

Find the characters way too whiny. They go from that extreme to super serious too much. It doesnt help most of the characters suffer from PTSD.

Also the stakes probably aint enough to me. One of the reasons it took me so long to get in to it cuz I wasn't feeling the enemy basically being giants/zombies.

There's a huge twist to the enemy but I don't want to spoil it ^^^^^

I binged AOT in like 2 weeks.

Season 1 was good, not great but good.
I liked everything after that except the whole reiss act of season 3.
Up to that point I would give it an 8.5 outta 10.

But the 2nd half of season 3 and season 4 is a got damb masterpiece.
10/10

If the rest of the episodes are as good as these last ones it's probably going to be my favorite anime ever or up there.

The last season is just amazing.

Season 1 was enough to capture my attention but Season 2 is where it really started hitting for me. S3, especially part 2, then combined both the action and mystery aspects and dialed it up to the maximum. I'd give it a 9.5/10 so far, I could see myself giving it a 10 depending on how it ends.

I don't see it beating my all time favorite Hunter x Hunter but I'm guessing it'll be close.

Even my mom's gotten so into AoT that she'll be texting me things like "you think Eren and Zeke might be up to something???" after an episode
I didn't even think of it tbh. She picked up on one of the previous episodes showing Zeke playing with a baseball glove and then Eren having a baseball glove next to him on that bench in the next episode. AoT does love foreshadowing so I wouldn't be surprised if that glove scene has some bigger meaning. It looks like Levi killed him in the previous episode though.

Man its crazy how anime and manga is just the norm now with Gen Z kids.

back then you got clowned for liking anime.

Its cool now to watch anime these days. I see females simpin over Levi and Gojo and dudes be simpin over Mikasa and hentai stuff man.

Millennial weebs walked, so gen z weebs could run

Nothing but facts.

I still haven't come to grips with how its just straight up mainstream now. Constantly blows my mind.

Fine *** *****es doing cosplay in One Piece attire. **** be trending on Twitter during big manga moments.
I always found this take interesting, getting clowned for liking anime. That was never the case for me or the dudes I hung around. I feel like that was reserved for people who were already socially inept.

May depend on your age. I'm talking like early 2000s in to mid 2000s. By the 2010s **** changed.

That joint was universally clowned except for dbz being a blind spot. Then it steadily became a dirty little secret except for when ppl were hustling fake Pokemon cards. More anime got added to the list like Gundam and eventually **** broke like a dam.

I'm in my early 30s and part of the generation that watched anime on tv after school and weekend mornings. We drew characters on notebooks and had pokemon cards (didn't even know how to play them). I can't speak for it universally, just my own experience, but unless you were "whack" no one cared enough to clown you for watching anime. You'd get fried for your shape up or other things before that comes up.

Naturally those types of ppl got clowned on but other groups and cliques didn't even talk about anime or manga as if it were taboo

I felt the same way until I got to season 2. Then I realized this show was destined for greatness.

How are you guys watching Attack on Titan?

Netflix is BSing :frown:

YouTube and Prime acting funny too.

Never got past Season One.

I'm 26 and in highschool you'd definitely get clowned for watching anime, with DBZ being the sole exception. If you admitted to watching something like Naruto, One Piece etc. you'd get mocked as a nerd. I only started watching anime a couple years ago aside from DBZ and Gundam Wing when I was young but I saw plenty of kids get mocked/bullied in highschool for watching anime.

Amongst people of my age it's still considered a bit weird but nothing that unusual.

If you have Hulu, they air new episodes and have the older seasons as well.

Well bless ya hearts for having to go through that. We were chilling over here

I think for a lot of people in my age group over here, the mention of anime tends to bring up imagery of stereotypical weebs

There's been a lot of progress in changing the perception of anime as something childish and/or perverted but it still has a long way to go here.

Speaking for me only but Anime stopped being hip the minute I hit middle school. It was all good then one day I brought up DBZ and people looked at me like I was crazy. Claimed it was for babies and weirdos. Never stopped enjoying it myself but I did stop discussing it with my peers since I figured they were over it. I wasn't made fun of myself but I'm sure others in different situations were.

Just like comic books and non sport video games its all come full circle. I'm sure Hollywood will be exploiting anime series and films next

Yeah it's the same exact thing for American comics

Must've been good wherever you were at. Seems I'm older than you (not by much) from what you said and middle school is basically when I noticed that starting.

By HS, when Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece were the big 3 none of them got talked about. Mostly sports, hip hop, females, porn, certain tv shows, and females got talked about.

Any of you guys using MyAnimeList (MAL) to keep track of and rate the anime/manga you've seen or read?
While digging through some old notepad files I remembered I used to sell MAL usernames to otakus (for up to $20 each lol) and turns out I apparently kept this one as a personal account for some reason.
I'm in the process of updating my list with all the anime series I've seen and rating them.

Okay ok, I see things get a bit lit with this female titan showing up

 I thought that crew would stick around for a bit with Eren. They all died quick after lying on themselves.
