How often do the logic board on Macbooks go out? How frequent does it happen?

Always wanted to convert from PC, brought a refurbished Macbook last year paid $550 for it, and logic board went out in 2weeks, went to Mac store the told me $900 LOL
luckily I was still under warranty got my money bad and just stayed with the dell I had...

This thread got me inspired and thinking again, but I'm just soo paranoid about bad logic board, but I need a new laptop; my trusty dell in 4 years old

logic board failure is just one of those risks that comes with buying any computer...kinda like the xbox360 and rrod. There's not much you can really do to protect against it happening besides taking good care of your computer and hoping for the best. The logic board on my 1st gen MB went out a few months back. I still don't have the money to replace it and i was out of warranty already. I have my eyes on a 15" or 17" MBP but my pockets aren't exactly full right now...

anyone know how to put music on your blackberry with a mac? i know theres a desktop manager for mac now but it seems like you can only sync playlist to your blackberry and not individual songs.

can anyone tell me whether or not buying coverscout is worth it? and where the cheapest place to get it would be?

ATTENTION MACINTOSH BRETHREN

My former love, my 15 inch macbook pro 2008 model, has been acting up on me within the past 2 years. Since I had applecare, and it was the third time my mac had to be fixed, i wrote steve jobs a personal letter letting him now how upset i was

Well turns out he read it, and sent me a BRAND NEW macbook pro, free of charge. I'll post pics later, but apple just gained so many cool points back from the iPhone 4. For all those who want to read it, its very long I must warn you.

Hello Mr. Jobs

My name is BLANK, and I am entering my third year at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. I have been a loyal customer for about a decade, with about 10 iPods, an iMac, a Macbook Pro, and a Mac Mini (along with every OS X and iLife/iWork update and AppleCare) in my Apple collection. For the past few months, my Macbook Pro (late 2008 model) has been giving me terrible problems. It has been repaired on 3 separate occasions since I had purchased it, but its been notably malfunctioning within the past 3-4 months. I have taken it to the nearest Apple store (21 miles from my apartment, and I have to take public transit because I do not own a car) 3 times within the past few months, yet still the problems persist. I have dealt with snobby, elitist customer service from the Apple Store employees who talk down to me as if I do not know what I am talking about. They supposedly put the computer through “rigorous testing

As predicted in a brief note yesterday, Apple has launched its annual "Back to School" promotion targeted at college and university students in the U.S. and Canada. The promotion offers customers qualifying to purchase through the company's education channel in those countries rebates of up to US$199 or C$219 for the purchase of a qualifying Mac and iPod on the same sales receipt.

New standard and build-to-order configurations of all Macs except the Mac mini qualify for the purposes of the offer, with a variety of rebates available for various iPod models. Refurbished Macs and iPods are not eligible for the offer, and no rebates are available for iPhone or iPad purchases.

Maximum U.S rebate amounts:

- iPod touch: $199
- iPod classic 160 GB: $199
- iPod nano 16 GB: $179
- iPod nano 8 GB: $149
- iPod shuffle 4 GB (stainless steel): $99
- iPod shuffle 4 GB: $79

The promotion runs through September 7th, 2010, and customers are limited to five rebates per household.

Finally. Decided to go with the 15" i5.

Anything I should download? Advice? Tips?

How can I transfer my iTunes library from another PC?

And one more thing: I know last year I seen someone in class using an application on his mac where he took notes. It looked like a yellow-sheet notepad on the screen, and he was also recording the lecture while doing so. Info on what that is?

Thanks.

Thanks.

If you have an ipod (not a touch) you can use this method to transfer music. You can copy your itunes music library folder to a external hard drive and just copy the contents to your new computer. Or, you can download MacDrive to your PC and hook up both computers via Firewire. Your mac will then become a big external drive.

The notes application that you saw was Word for Mac. Under "View," change it to "Notebook Layout"

Im about to sell my old blackbook and cop a 27" iMac, figure my iPad handles all of my basic portable computer needs. What would be the better one to get, 3.6 ghz i5 or 2.8 ghz i7?

Yeah mine does that too, especially when watching youtube videos or similar sites. Haven't really found a solution to fix it but I plan to upgrade to 4GB of RAM, maybe that should help?

As for the app, I've been using smcFanControl, you can control and monitor the speed of the fans.

I have a black macbook (got it in 2007 I believe), and I am running out of memory on it. I have read it is very easy to install extra memory on it, but I was wondering what the lace place to buy memory is. I do not know a whole lot about this stuff so I don't even know what a decent price would be.

I think the fans blowing is just standard. I have an i7 with 4GB of RAM and mine does it from time to time and gets heated too. But it blows over after a couple minutes or less. I notice it happens often around 50%, real low, and at a real high charge.
