The point is people shouldn't have to spend an additional $200 a month to commute to work.

The only people supporting it are the ones that sit home all day, dont drive at all, or dont drive to the city.

I dont hate the MTA. Been taking it for decades.
I do hate taxing people who drive. Most of NYC is strongly against this policy.

Of course, but that doesn't change what I said IMO. I also understand the importance of the MTA being fiscally viable, the MTA props up the entire state financially, but this whole thing is treating the symptoms, not the diseasemost poor people take the train.

Lyft and Uber been lobbying for it to happen so they can force people who don’t trust the subways to take their cabs.
This doesn’t help the city at all. The MTA is one of the most corrupt wasteful organizations. The trains and infrastructure will still be crap.

There are programs in place to lessen the cost of lower income NYers.
And you are not poor
So all you are doing here are using the potential plight of poor people as a shield to hide behind while you voice your grievances as a high earning out-of-towner that does not like that they have to pay a toll.

I did not know the first bit. I may not be poor but I'm an immigrant and came to America and was poor. I remember what being poor is like. It's not a foreign concept to me.
I am gonna be fine regardless I obviously know that.

I think it would be better that the MTA had a reliable funding source through taxation of a negative extremality than the current status quo

We will see about this. I have my doubts. From my standpoint, this is nothing more than a new tax where there was none previously. It used to cost me $0 and now it costs me up to $9/day. No new service. Just more taxes.
I will stop though, not the thread for it.
