Milwaukee Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer’s brother died in a car accident during their first-round playoff series loss to the Miami Heat, he confirmed to The Athletic on Friday.
Budenholzer, 53, is one of seven children, and the youngest of four brothers. It’s unclear which of his three brothers died, or what specifically happened in the car accident. Budenholzer’s brother died just before Game 4 of the Bucks' series.
Budenholzer confirmed only the news through a team spokesperson, but Los Angeles Lakers coach Darvin Ham — who worked as an assistant under Budenholzer in both Atlanta and Milwaukee — addressed the accident before their game on Friday against the Memphis Grizzlies. Budenholzer confirmed he was fine with Ham addressing the crash.

Budenholzer, who is from Holbrook, Arizona, just finished his fifth season with the Bucks. He previously served as the head coach in Atlanta after a 17-season run as an assistant with the San Antonio Spurs under Gregg Popovich.
Budenholzer and the Bucks, despite earning the top seed in the Eastern Conference, fell to the Miami Heat 4-1 in their opening-round playoff series earlier this week. They lost Game 4 in Miami, shortly after Budenholzer’s brother died, and then fell on Wednesday in overtime after a 42-point night from Jimmy Butler.
This is why people need to chill with their opinions. Its bigger than basketball. You don't know what people are going through.

Unfair to people. Can’t use a 1/1,000,000 case to ask people to make a sweeping change in approach. Otherwise, anytime anyone has a bad game what’s the alternative - everyone just wait 2 weeks to see if any other news shakes out before having a basketball conversation. I think everyone feels incredibly sad and bad for him but don’t think anyone should feel bad about having had a basketball opinion based on known facts at the time.

Funny thing is Lisa Salters said Kobe had the same exact injury+splint on his shooting hand during his 2010 FMVP run. It’s not inconceivable an All-NBA player can perform at a high level during the playoffs with that injury. Not saying Fox is on Kobe’s level but they need to cut it out.
He also said he had to 're-create his entire shooting form' and shot 6-24 in game 7. Not exactly promising to hear.
Anyone can see his handle and shot is effected and he's playing different than he normally does.

Only Warriors fans have some weird complex about wanting to dismiss it

You talking about the 2010 Finals when he shot 40% for the series (and had no business winning FMVP)?

He also shot 40% in the NBA Finals for his career (37 games).

He also shot 40% in game 7s for his career (6 games).

He also shot 40% in elimination games for his career (21 games).

There is no evidence to suggest that kobe bryant's (supposed) broken finger had any effect on his shot in the 2010 Finals. There is a very high likelihood that kobe bryant would have shot 40% in the 2010 Finals with or without a broken finger.

All people have opinions bruh...let's not get righteous all of a sudden after the fact. How people formulate and convey those opinions is on them though. This Budenholzer stuff is new info. Folks get the chance to walk those back or come corrected.

Bud had an obligation to take some time off though. Coaching just aint it when your brother just died. Go be with your family and let the assistant coaches run the team.
