The Official NBA Season Thread

The original tweet was generational talent/prospect in HS.

Then some people are saying generational talent as a draft prospect.

Then others are saying just generational talent in general.

Telephone game is crazy

Being a “generational talent” is overrated anyway. Mostly has to do with physical gifts and an imaginative ceiling that won’t be reached. Give me the best basketball player

Because I haven’t paid attention to HS like that in a while, my list of generational DRAFT PROSPECTS from present to 1990 is-

Victor Wemby
ZeeOn
Luka (proof was all there some folks just didn’t want to believe it)
Oden (was considered the next Bill Russell and best defensive player prospect ever)
KD
Bron
Yao
Duncan
Webber
Shaq

Since I started following the NBA draft (2002), generational prospects to me:

Yao, Bron, Oden, Durant, maybe DRose, AD, maybe Zion, Wemby.
Appreciate the Yao nod. Definitely a generational prospect

Yeah this works.

Either the list has to be very small or very expansive.

Kobe was not seen as generational coming out of high school. Nor TMac either. And I'd consider KD borderline, but I get it. Coming back to MD senior year, growing to 6'9" and winning All-met POY all at once pretty much sealed it.

With what Im reading Master P was a generational talent. 🤣

Michael Beasley was right there with KD coming out of high school as far as hype goes.

Beasley was highly recruited but not generational. He’s the same size, plays the same, just plays well. He was generational with mental issues unfortunately.

I would say KD is generational in the realm of Dirk. 7 footers who can shoot the hell out the rock. That just doesn’t happen.

Which is why I agree with Wemby being chosen. No one is as tall with his handles or agility ever.

Choosing Lebron makes sense too. He was a Scottie Pippen upgrade in every way but defense. We won’t see another Lebron maybe ever.

Choosing AD is absolutely ridiculous because he’s not better than Olajuwon, the Admiral, Ewing etc

Joker is more generational. We haven’t seen a center pass the way he does and make the game that easy.

Jokic is a generational PLAYER. Not a generational prospect. He was drafted in the 2nd round.

AD was a generational prospect. He's a great player and a first ballot HOF'er but I'd probably stop short of calling him a generational player.

I had AD just on the outside looking in for my list. Just didn’t feel like the hype was quite there like it was with some of the others. But he was definitely projected to be an amazing defender with a bunch of other tools and great fluidity for his size.

Would put him ahead of Rose.

You’re DQ’d if you didn’t go #1
Folks all over the place with what generational means….If you didn’t have that label pre draft and they didn’t think you was that special to be taken #1 then you weren’t generational coming into the league

Steph is a generational player now but he wasn’t in 09, same with Kobe in 96 etc
