Definitly a 50mm 1.8
heres some examples of how sharp it is, the thing is that you will have to focus it yourself. but imo its much better because you get to be in complete control. it just takes practice

Nikon 35mm 1.8 G - very sharp and will autofocus on your d3000.  trust.

I think that is the only real advantage with the 35mm that it auto focuses on a D3000. If you can afford it, I would suggest you get the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G instead. I have a 35mm and it is a cool lens but I thought it would be way better. I think the 50mm is better as far as bokeh is concerned but it is pretty pricey at the moment and it has an odd range that doesn't really make it a great all purpose use lens. I think it is a good accessory to have with a wide angle lens.

Agreed. 50mm 1.4g is the way to go, but that is assuming money aint a thang.....
I figured codliver is starting out and what better way than a easy, fast, sharp, autofocus lens that is only $200.00 vs $450.00+

He can then resell that for a great price and/or trade for a non autofocus 50mm 1.4 D (not G) ...when ready.

Does anybody know the rules for college footbal games? I wanna take my T2i to a game. but I don't want to be turned away at the gate.

I've taken my camera to MLB baseball games as well as the NFL. I am sure you should be ok cause you won't be sideline and assuming you're not bringing a super zoom lens as well.
