Just give her the pictures bro...don't rush into the compensation aspect of it so fast and just enjoy shooting for what it is, everyone nowadays rushing to make some money of it, once it becomes a business the fun of it kind of goes out the window TBH

^great advice steeze. Once I get comfortable enough, I plan to go to the justice of peace here in Philadelphia and ask couples if they want free photos to get my skills up.

Even to this day I've considered doing that probono to get to brush up on some new poses...just never have the time.....hopefully once wedding season slows down I'll go do that.

Any of you guys know of a website that'll blow your pics up?

^^^^^^Well, you have you have a good and high megapixal photo in order to blow stuff up. Clarity all varies depending on things but in general if you blow it up to say poster size (24X36), it will always be blurry to an extent. I guess this is where the Nikon D800 comes into play with it having such a high pixel count but generally your average shooter would never print something to that size anyways. Depending on the print shop, it will be well over a $100 for sure.
F/14, ISO 400, 30 second shutter. The main reason for the long exposure is to get the cable lines to all be white since it's being animated. What sucks is some of the lights are broken and you can see that on the image. I usually clone it all but been getting lazy.

^Last time I went there I shot at F12 with a 30sec exposure but the lights came out blurry with my 6D so I had to drop it down to F11.

Lights blurry? Which lights specifically? The only reason why that would be is the tripod....not so much the camera. For 30 second exposure there, you'd have to be at F/10-12 cause it is decently lit up by all the lights. But I hear you though....it is odd seeing so many different kind of results with shooting stuff like that. Almost everyone's is not as identical as the other, even if they have the same camera.

The lights that animate weren't in focus. I have a cheap $15 tripod so that could've been part of the issue also but I'm saving up for a legit tripod and maybe an external flash so if I find a good deal on a manfrotto or speedlite near black fri I'll be all over it.

not that it was necessarily the case for this situation but I've read that depending on the camera, lens, sensor combination there are definitely diminishing returns on stopping down, and for any given lens there is a "sweet spot" aperture where a lens is sharpest and past that image quality (sharpness included) degrades. could be you just slightly missed focus? or if you weren't using a cable or remote for shutter release could be a tiny wobble from pushing the shutter?

not that it was necessarily the case for this situation but I've read that depending on the camera, lens, sensor combination there are definitely diminishing returns on stopping down, and for any given lens there is a "sweet spot" aperture where a lens is sharpest and past that image quality (sharpness included) degrades. could be you just slightly missed focus? or if you weren't using a cable or remote for shutter release could be a tiny wobble from pushing the shutter?[/quote]
Considering I had a cheap tripod and it was windy since I was right next to the bay that is definitely a possibility. The wobble from pushing the shutter is also possible, I would post the pic up but I deleted it. Now I know though.

What do you have currently? Body/lens? I would go with one prime lens, perhaps a 28mm to get a few wide angle shots and one zoom lens.

True. Also to note, I always shoot it on 2 second timer when I shoot long exposures.

For those that shoot infants - Whats the youngest acceptable age for shooting? I mean, would you shoot a kid hat was just born a week ago or a month?

I have been shooting for about 15 months now and only have a Nikon D3200, 15-55mm kit lens, 35mm F/1.8 lens, and a cheap tripod.
I did a lot of research before my son was born and from all the blogs I read, the first two weeks are the best for newborn photography. Also a useful tip would be to keep it warm inside the home and invest in diaper pads.

are you thinking about getting a new camera or additional gear? what's your budget? fisheye lenses are fun, i think people over look them as novelty but they can really give images an interesting feel & makes you shoot differently from other lenses...

7-14 days is my window for newborns, no older than that it is a nightmare from my experience, I've shot as young as 5 days and less than 5lbs little girl was a peanut
