The Official Photography Thread - Vol. 3

Great stuff everyone. Haven't posted here in a while. Midterms this week but will post a lot of new stuff.

Is there a NT flickr Account? we should probably get one started an easier way to view eachother's work and really get a feel for it.

I have a flickr but don't really use it. I'd be down to join and contribute though.

7-14 days is my window for newborns, no older than that it is a nightmare from my experience, I've shot as young as 5 days and less than 5lbs little girl was a peanut
Yeah ... That's my train of thought .. I just don't know if I should do them or not .. I haven't used natural lighting in for ever ... I'm so used to strobes that I don't know if it will come out right ...

What are you guys using to shoot infant?

Not sure if this is the best place to ask this but I want to upgrade my RAM on my iMac cause my photos are killing my computer. I have 4GB ram right now. Is 8GB sufficient for photo work or should I just get 16GB? Or is 16GB just to much for what i need?

I have 8gigs on my 15inch mbp right now and it works for me but I would recommended 16 since you're on an iMac.

Yes there is. I'm on mobile right now so I can't post up the link to it but will when I get home if nobody else does by the time I can.

There's a group but Idk if it's "official" NT and not just named after it

There's one called niketalk themes where the admin was supposed to change the theme every week or so but that died off pretty quickly lol

Out of curiosity, what made you get rid of the A7? Lack of native lenses?

Pretty much the lack of lenses. I saw they just announced a few more new ones coming out for next year but I've been needing a few specific lenses for a while now so it's easier for me to stick to Nikon. I also couldn't always count on the AF speed for some of my fitness/lifestyle photography.

Maybe once the lenses I need are out there will also be a newer version of the A7/r/s with improved battery life/AF. It's still an amazing camera and definitely recommend it to landscape/street photographers. If you need it for low-light or for moving subjects, I'd say go with a different system.

A really nice set of photos, i just think they may need the exposure down a small amount some of them seem extra illuminated.

I was thinking the same thing looking back on them. I believe I overexposed some because my camera has a dark spot for a chip in the lens that was a little difficult to edit out and it was just easier to do that. Thanks for the feedback though. I really appreciate it.

I would get an external hard drive instead to store your pictures on. If you do, make sure it is shock resistent to protect from falls. I lost a good amount of pictures from a small drop. I have a lot of trust in my transcend shockproof hds. I filled a StoreJet 25M2 (USB 2.0) and use the StoreJet 25M3 (USB 3.0) currently.

^^^^^^I had like 500GB of hi def movies (not pron...serious) and backed that all up. I have a TB on my iMac and even when I had 500GB open storage, my computer still ran slow. It all started when I got my Mark 2 and now my Mark 3. My iPhone doesn't even populate without crashing. I just bought a 16GB RAM about an hour ago. Hopefully this solves my problem. Just seems foolish to have a pretty decent powered computer and it like runs as if it is super old.

Maybe if you had a 1tb SSD it would help it a little bit? Not sure just throwing ideas out there but if you don't plan on keeping the mac for long it doesn't make sense to swap out the SSD....if it even helps.

Right now I have a 107GB actually but i need to transfer some movies (167GB of vids.....no cable and yes, no porn) on some externals that I have only my playstation. Even when I did that before with 300GB, my photos and even iPhoto were still running slow.

I get my RAM in next week. Hopefully after that and take out some vids, my computer can run smooth again.

So would ya'll be willing to put together A group?... I'll make one if enough people are interested, mainly because i really do like photography and my first experiences with a DSLR were with a class in which we gave critique/ Ideas/ reviews of the photos also. So that community experience def helped me in improving from the beginning and i would love to have something similar while using flickr.

You'd need the RAM to handle the processing of those files better. The size of your HDD shouldn't really matter if the issue is slow down while editing photos.

Yeah...I figured. I really hope there is a difference when I install it. I am no computer guy and just thought $200 for RAM seemed high. I just hope it was a good investment. I really don't even want to put all my photos on an external. I just checked and I have 250GB of photos which is high, but not totally bad. Granted this is every photo I have ever shot going back as far as 2004 when I had one of Nikon's first 3MP point and shoots.

I thought this thing was so cool back in the days. Even had video with no sound. What sucked was memory cards were so damn expensive back then. I swear it was like $30-50 for a 256MB card.
