The Official Photography Thread - Vol. 3

My girlfriend does make up and **** and she wants a camera for Christmas and whatnot

What's a real good recording device? Simple video making and flicks. Might use for sneaker reviews as well.Price range $1-500. Dslr or point and shoot

Best bang for the buck preferably

if you're going to be making videos with this camera, i'd definitely recommend getting a dslr/interchangeable lens camera (i don't really think matters much which camera if you're mainly interested in making quick videos) & a fast (maybe a zoom if you you can find a good 2.8 in the range of 18-70mm used?) lens; it tends to be true in most cases, but maybe especially for video, better to spend on a nice lens than any particular camera...probably the easiest way to make your videos look nice without having to do much of anything, hard to beat the combination of a relatively large sensor with a nice lens...

been trying to do some timelapses...harddrive is close to maxed out, so many back logged photos i want to get to:

Idk I don't see a need for a DSLR for recording make up video and sneaker reviews. A simple point and shoot with 1080p seems to be the better route. Especially considering the given price range. A GoPro3+ or even the 4 should be good

Nice Tokes. Your colors are always wild but nice. Where the hell are you? Chicago and....?

i got the canon 50mm 1.8 for my crop sensor.

its koo, but so zoomed in. but nice for portraits.

I noticed its a bit more difficult to get the best focus. I really would like to use the VF but I wear glasses. and i guess that spacing from my glasses to the viewfinder, what it hink looks focused when i shoot it and review it its not as focus as it should.

any folks who wear glasses have tips to overcome this? I sometimes I have to result in using the LCD and just miss too many shots this way.

tokes, those are some ill pics.

How did you guys get so good at photography? No slurp but i'm amazed at the pics in this thread.

Do you guys plan what you want to take pictures of or do you just go out into the world and snap away?

Couple recents.

So I just bought this Canon 50mm 1.4 to use with my T4i. I'm trying to get used to taking pictures everyday. I took a few photos at Walmart and a couple of my stepbrother. I'm still very much new to this, so any tips on taking better pics would be appreciated

true, though i think the it is by far easiest way to make video look quality is the ability to get shallow depth of field that a larger sensor with a fast lens makes possible...given a $500 max a spending $150-250 on a second hand body & $100-300 on a fast lens rather than a $250+ p&s, even one as capable as an rx100, if its going to be primarily stationary video, size, flexibility, & portability doesn't really matter; which is the main reason to get a p&s or gopro camera

thanks, i really like shooting with really wide angle lenses to walk around with & my widest lens doesn't really play nice with my camera, and does some color-casting/shifting on the edges; sometimes it works, other times not so much...yea, i picked literally one of the coldest weeks to go home to chicago, after returning from china...

i don't wear glasses, so i'm of no help there but most cameras with a viewfinder usually have a diopter that you can adjust the sharpness with; maybe adjust & see if that helps?

'preciate the compliments y'all, one more of the flamingo; i used to walk by this thing all the time going to the footlocker that used to be on state street and never even really looked twice at it:

Yeah, I thought it was a good deal and decided to pull the trigger.

Better now than later, if anything, I can return if there's a better deal.

Nice work ragin3ull ragin3ull and hod hod I love seeing shots from around the world and those are clean shots of your carrera. Can't wait to see shots of your 348TB!

Thanks Yanky!  I appreciate the kind words, will post the 348TB photoshoot very soon :)

Ya'll need to stop man. There is some really good stuff in the last two pages.

Alright, I have a question for you shooters that shoot portraits. I always see shots pf people with the sun in the background and wonder how they get that shot cause ironically I have never achieved a good one. It's not only how to expose the person but how do you get it where the sun just looks nice and emits nice color? Do you use a reflector and lens hood or is it just something where you do it all in post and expose the shadows with the RAW files?

Examples of shots that I am talking about. Any tips would be great.

Some of it can be done in post as far as making the sunlight warmer. I'd have to assume it's done with a gold reflector or done in post. Or even placing a warm filter on a flash. I'm looking through my pics now to see if I have any with such a bright sun in the background but I doubt I have any as bright as the ones above

I just don't get how they retain the color. Shooting back lit photos always wash colors out like below. It seems it could be post but even those examples seems to saturated but still natural. Also I feel like the sun and light leaks even cause some odd blemishes on the person. Weird enough, I have never used a lens hood on my lenses but wonder if that literally takes that all away.

Yea, I tried taking this pic

and then tune up the warmth up and no dice lol. I shall say they had a filter on their flash

I saw a picture similar to these. This guy used this as his setup:

Mentioned that he used the E640 Flash Unit w/no filter

hopefully this helps
