The Official Photography Thread - Vol. 3

^^^^damn....that makes sense. I swear I want strobes but need to use it and not have it be a waste of money.

Ironically I saw this on Nikon Rumors. Not sure if it is a mode but it seems only for certain Nikon Cameras. Still want to do it the flash/strobe way though.

^ Nice. Seems simple enough in theory. Basically underexpose, pull out shadows, and a bit of brush adjustment. I want to try this with the 6D. Not sure if it'll handle shadows as good as the D800 though.

The only thing is when you do it this way, the quality of the shadowed areas that are brightened don't come out as good as apposed to say using a strobe or flash.

This is from that same link I posted a above and you can see how bad the couple looks. Would look horrible if printed.

i was gonna say the same thing, but i was thinking it was my camera since it's a couple steps down from the 800.

that couple looks animated

if the goal is to have the sky, the trees, and the couple in the foreground correctly exposed for, you could take multiple exposures and composite them?

^^^^You can but it gets a little difficult say with the trees to the sky. Trying to blend that all in where the branches and what not don't look photoshopped could get time consuming.

Me personally I just want it to look natural without having to do the photoshop route but it just comes with a price that could get expensive.

I saw a picture similar to these. This guy used this as his setup:

his before and after shot after doing some post processing

Mentioned that he used the E640 Flash Unit w/no filter

hopefully this helps

You can get a similar look with a cooler gel. When you auto correct the temp in post, warming the skin to the proper hue, it will also warm the ambient light on the background. No need for layers and masks in PS. You can see this in camera as well if you choose the correct white balance.

Does anyone have a WACOM Bamboo? If so do you like it?

I don't know anyone that has one but I own the Intuos 4 (medium size) and love it. I went with this one rather than the bamboo or splash because of all the extra features and the grip pen.

Thanks for asking that questions about the lighting fongstarr. I wanted to ask the same question but mine don't get answered for some reason.

^I've been wanting to go there for the longest time now but just never made the drive up there. Pretty good spot to do some astronomy photography as long as you're away from the lighthouse.

From what I've heard through reviews and people in real life, it's amazing they say. They have one on Amazon thats part of the black friday deal coming up in a few hours and I'm planning to buy it and see how it is.

Can anyone recommend me some good tripods for my rx100?

Maybe a small and medium one?

got these more because they were cool looking than especially functional...
manfrotto pixi mini tripod

ultrapod II lightweight camera tripod

also a gorilla pod might work decent for a such a small camera...

with the rx100 being so small most tripods would work relatively fine, though ironically it is possibly that you might need a sturdier tripod because it is so small that it doesn't' put much downward weight on the tripod...

Any fujifilm x series owners?

i had the x100 for a while. it was fantastic. i sold it to a friend because i primarily shoot film, but have been thinking about getting an xpro1 and x100s or t.

i have a lot of friends that use various fufifilm x series (xpro, xe2) cameras and they're pretty awesome. fuji lenses are fantastic.

are you looking to get one?

Sound like a broken record because I chime in every time fujifilm comes up, but I've been using X Series for almost 2 years now. Currently have a X-T1 (posted a couple pages back) and an X-E1 (trying to get rid of this 8o) and a handful of lenses. The primes are all amazing, hopefully will be adding the 23mm by the end of the year.

Ya'll need to stop man. There is some really good stuff in the last two pages.

Alright, I have a question for you shooters that shoot portraits. I always see shots pf people with the sun in the background and wonder how they get that shot cause ironically I have never achieved a good one. It's not only how to expose the person but how do you get it where the sun just looks nice and emits nice color? Do you use a reflector and lens hood or is it just something where you do it all in post and expose the shadows with the RAW files?

Examples of shots that I am talking about. Any tips would be great.

Expose for the background and light up the subjects with strobes. You can warmup the photo in post. This is where a leaf shutter shines ala fujix100 due to very fast flash sync speeds. The fast shutter speed kills the sun and a quick blast from the strobe/speedlight to light up subject.

My girlfriend does make up and **** and she wants a camera for Christmas and whatnot

What's a real good recording device? Simple video making and flicks. Might use for sneaker reviews as well.Price range $1-500. Dslr or point and shoot

Best bang for the buck preferably

Thanks for those recommendations brah. Really appreciate it.

I was looking at the b&h website and I came across this one with a 3-way panhead. I see this being beneficial if I wanted to take a sweeping video.

Could I buy the handle seperately and attach it to one of the tripods you mentioned? Would I even need the panhead to do a steadier sweeping video?
