Great stuff as always, I follow your blog on the regular.  I know you're using a 5DMKII, but do you do a lot of pp work to your photos?

THANKS.
It depends. Some shots I don't touch at all. Others I'll flip to B/W. Still others, if they're over/underexposed, I'll turn it up/down. Sometimes I also like a lot of contrast to achieve a grittier look. So I guess it depends on the content.. Most of these here are barely touched at all, except Shay I turned up the greens (for obvious reasons).  I personally see nothing wrong with using PS or LR, I think those programs can only make a good shot better (or worse).  At the end of the day, everyone pretty much has the same camera now, and the same programs, so it's all about eye for composition and the content.

As television and movie studios realise the advantages of shooting on HDSLRs, more and more TV shows and films are being shot on cameras like the Canon EOS 5D Mark II.

The season six finale of House was shot entirely with a 5DmkII - a huge change if you consider that the show have been always shot on 35mm film. Greg made the reveal on Twitter and then did a technical talk with Philip Bloom.

The 580 ex wouldn't be powerful enough for that kind of shot.
I'd say probably two AB800s through a lightbox camera left and right, and then two 580exs, one on either side, camera left and right behind the subjects for fill, and a white backdrop, fluorescent overhead lighting, and what looks like probably two of those lights that look like blacklight bulbs, but white. (I can't remember what they're called, but you just set them up vertically left and right of the subjects.)

OR

Two off camera flashes camera left and right in reflective umbrellas, one flash in a shoot-thru umbrella behind the subjects, and a solid working knowledge of Photoshop.

hey guys what do you think of my rig shots? Just a pole through the rear windows secured with safety belts.

Would a D40 with an 18-55mm lens be a decent start up DSLR to use/purchase if I can get it for around 200-250?

thanks to the 3 that responded quickly.  I like the perspective of #2 but there's something about motion in a still photo that i like about #1.  also, it was the NLDS against the Cubs and the towels were waving like crazy during a homerun and crucial parts of the game.

mmm, I have a question about Polaroids. I want to take a picture like:

So if I cover the flash on my polaroid there would be absolutely NO light and i'll have a black picture. Would I need the light to be diffused or aim it high and leave the bottom covered.
