The Official Photography Thread - Vol. 3

Appreciate it fellas.

Fong, me and you go way back to running the tattoo thread, im def gonna PM you in the near future for more tips and what not if thats cool with you.

^^^^No doubt. Tattoo thread is sort of defunct to me. Just out of the culture a bit for me. But yeah, hit me up. Also everyone on this post is pretty helpful. Ask away on here too.

Fellas I was wondering what site is better to upload and have like folders of shot during trips etc. is Flick better or 500px? Or is there something else out there? Thanks

Downloaded Enlight for editing. Any other apps worth using? Only iphone compatible apps, dont have access to a laptop at the moment.

Flickr's probably best for storing a lot of photos/albums. 500px is more for showcasing your best work.

500px is also a great site for finding inspiration or new places to shoot - just search any city and filter it to the genre you want to shoot. Flickr's a great site for researching gear and seeing a lot of samples from different cameras, lenses, films, etc.

1000

I like 500px a lot

Curious, what accessorizes have made shooting easier or things that you have gotten that made big changes or things you can't shoot without anymore?

Be it a diffuser for your flash, a reflector, lcd shade, cleaning supplies, etc.

Been away for a week. Great scenery but the weather wasn't great - just one good sunset really. Got a couple of shots though:

Sunset over Skye

Loch Shiel (Dumbledore was buried on the island on the left if you're into HP)

Made the fatal mistake of changing lenses at the beach and now I've got crap on my sensor. Was really careful but didn't quite manage it. Ordered a cleaning kit which should be here tomorrow.

And a reworking of an old shot. I lost a few images a long time ago - and this was one of the ones where the original file got deleted. I always regretted not being able to process it properly but the new PS can do a decent job even just from the jpeg.

I thought the reflector was a good purchase for the budget. The only bad thing is you need an assistant for it but it made a difference on some photos I took. Tripod is definitely a no brainer. I bring that thing with me everywhere. I have filters but I have yet to really think if the purchase was worth the cost. Some say filters are a waste since there are ways to manipulate long exposures without it. Get a blower too. It helps out for most things when cleaning your sensor but you might need a cleaning kit in the long run. I am so damn lazy that I just photoshop all my spots. I also have a trigger and since I do landscapes, that has helped a lot with some extra long exposure stuff.

What kind of grip, extended battery?

I have a cleaning kit but I have no idea where I put it. I shoulder really find that thing :{

I have a flash and I'm thinking about buying a softbox for it.

Trying to see what else I should look into on Amazon for useful things to get/use.

Grabbed the Canon 50mm 1.8 STM.

I know im jumping the gun but what would be another good lens after this? :lol

it will always depend on what you want to shoot.

35mm is pretty safe. Canon doesn't make super cheap 35mm lenses though.

35mm f/2
Amazon product ASIN B00A2BVBTG
They have a 24mm f/1.8 that is good as well
Amazon product ASIN B00NI3BZ5K
If you are looking to do portraits I would reccomend starting with the 85mm 1.8
Amazon product ASIN B00007GQLU
I bought that lens used for like $280 or so. Extremely high value if you want to do portraits.

For crop sensor zooms, i've heard lots of good stuff about the sigma 18-35 f/1.8... but I've never shot sigma glass and I dont recommend the sigma version of any lens that exists on the canon/nikon/sony etc lineup of lenses.

Really depends what you're gonna be shooting. Portraits? Products? Street? Landscapes?

I recommend a 35mm lens for everyday purposes. Since you're on a crop Canon that 50mm is more like an 80m effective focal length.
On a crop body a 35 is closer to "Nifty Fifty". I'm a Nikon shooter so I'm not sure what the Canon equivalent of the 35mm f/1.8G would be but I strongly suggest looking into something in that focal length.

But again, hard to make a suggestion without you specifying what type of shooting you do/intend do

I second everything right here.

Reflectors are great for photoshoots.

It's useful to have an ND filter and circular polarizer every now and then.

Rocket blower most definitely.

If you get a flash, get some remote triggers too. Opens up endless possibilities for off camera use.

And my most favorite accessory of all time, the camera strap. Find one that suits your needs.
