THE OFFICIAL SAN JOSE SHARKS SEASON THREAD!! PLAYOFFS VS CHICAGO WCF series 0-1

Anyone heard of this? Chris Paul to the Warriors...

The obvious trading partner is the Golden State Warriors, who have a terrific fan base and dysfunctionalsituation.

With a team of perimeter shooters, Paul would be the classic fit. The only time this Warriors group had success was witha point guard, Baron Davis. And by now it seems coach Don Nelson has alienated half the roster, a roster much better than its record.

Perhaps Paul and someone like Julian Wright, who'dfallen out of favor, for Monta Ellis and LSU's Anthony Randolphto give the Hornets two talented youngsterswhile Golden State gets its star to run its offense. Golden State also adds a draft pick. How good would shooters like Anthony Morrow and Stephen Curry beplaying off Paul? Such a deal would also save the Hornets more than $2 million toward their vital goal of getting under the luxury tax this season since youcan match salaries within 25 percent. It might send the Warriors into the luxury tax, but for a player like Paul given their situation you'd have tostrongly consider that.

its something to think about, but i doubt it'll ever happen.
if they're going to trade paul, im sure they could get way better offers then that.

If the Warriors get Paul, I'm buying a jersey.

Then the next thing the Warriors need to do is get one of the Lopez twins. I'd buy another jersey.

i would give up monta and any other player on our roster for paul. (maybe that's why i never win in my fantasy leagues, haha) i wouldn't buy a jerseythough. i gave up on buying warriors jerseys. no one stays long enough.
Where might Monta Ellis end up? Let's scour the field: Philly, Miami, Memphis…
Monta Ellis' agent is coming to town tomorrow (Thursday), planning for a sit down with Warriors management to talk about Ellis' future (and he's also here to co-promote the Andre Ward-Kessler fight).

Apparently, the Warriors brass is saying there's no clear certainty that Robert Rowell or Larry Riley will take a meeting with the agent-Jeff Fried-though you'd imagine that it'd be fairly silly to refuse.

Presuming they talk, there is a strong chance Ellis, via Fried, expresses discontent with the general Warriors situation and suggests that he might want to be elsewhere. Certainly wouldn't be a shocking discovery for Warriors management.

At this point, Rowell and Riley will either…

A) Try to calm things down, as they've done various times in the recent past, and tell Fried that all is well with Monta, he's the centerpiece, don't worry about Don Nelson's shenanigans and don't mind all the mess around here, you just happened to show up on a bad day… or…

B) Get mad and say that they'll do what they damn well please with Ellis and the team or…

C) Say fine, we'll try to trade Ellis, and if you ask, we'll give you permission to talk to other teams and find a workable trade for us both.

Knowing Rowell and Riley as I think I do, if they do have this meeting, and if Fried does raise sharp points, I think their reaction will be a mixture of A, B and C.

And the end result will be… C: Now that it's all but public, they will further efforts to trade Ellis, which began recently, anyway, so no big deal. It'll just be more public.

It's hard for both sides to go this far down the road and not eventually get to the Trade Depot, as Stephen Jackson and Al Harrington did not long ago themselves, albeit they did it far more quickly by making loud and immediate trade demands to kick-start it all.

Ellis' has been a slower, different journey, but perhaps that has made the emotions even more deeply felt. Who knows. Maybe the last few days have settled him down and he won't want this bubbling up now. If that happens, it'll still bubble up again, but just not right now.

We'll see what happens over the next few days.

I'm jumping ahead, 'cause that's what I like to do, and trying to help out my buddies in the Warriors front office who seem to be totally shocked by new developments that anybody else can see from miles.

They might need to trade Ellis. Before they made any public declarations or start shopping (OOPS TOO LATE ON THAT), maybe they ought to scour the field and try to find the most likely best options for moving Ellis, who is guaranteed $44M after this season.

Now I say this knowing that I never would've had Charlotte down as a top potential destination for Jackson or Memphis for Allen Iverson or various other stops for other must-move players. Sometimes they just come out of nowhere.

Still, it's good to have a list when something this big is being considered. Here's mine, ranked in general order of likelihood, but it's all a guess.

I EMPHASIZE THAT THIS IS A HYPOTHETICAL EXERCISE. I AM NOT SAYING ANYONE HAS DISCUSSED THESE DEALS…
OK, the list:

1. PHILADELPHIA: Either for Samuel Dalembert straight up (UNLIKELY) or for a package including Jrue Holiday, Thaddeus Young and salary filler (or Louis Williams).

First, I like Eastern Conference teams for Ellis because there are fewer big guards out there for him to (struggle to) defend and because so many of the East teams struggle to score-which Ellis can help fix in a blink.

Why the 76ers first? I know Williams is very similar and even smaller than Ellis, but in the East, Philly could play them both. Or the Sixers could toss Williams into a package along with their surplus of middle-salary players.

If I'm the Warriors, I'd want rookie Holiday for his defensive potential. It's not clear Don Nelson would want him, but I'd like a possible future Stephen Curry/Holiday backcourt.

Dalembert's salary works perfect, but Nelson would hate his game even more than Eddie Jordan does, so it'd just be a dump for the Warriors-Dalembert's contract is two years shorter than Ellis'. I don't see the Warriors doing a max dump for Ellis.

They'll want talent back. Any package involving Holiday and Young is the best mix of theoretically gettable talent I could realistically find.

2. MIAMI: Hard to find the right-sized contracts, but I have the Heat this high on the list because I've got a sneaking feeling Ellis would like to end up here alongside Dwyane Wade and Wade might like to have a big-time scorer on board.

The Heat could offer Quentin Richardson's expiring $9.4M contract. Which would be interesting: Miami wants to keep Q to get the cap relief to make a run for a Chris Bosh-type, and the Warriors would be getting a severe talent discrepancy if they do it.

So NEITHER team has major impetus to do it. Otherwise, Miami has Michael Beasley, Udonis Haslem… and not much else to move, and not a big motivation to move them.

Again. Miami's only up here because I think we'll be hearing about the Heat at some point.

3. CHICAGO: Straight up for Kirk Hinrich (two years, $17M after this year).

The Bulls lost Ben Gordon last summer and, though they're winning some games, they miss him-they're the fourth-lowest scoring team in the league and their 42.9% FG shooting is better than only Charlotte, New Jersey and Minnesota. Eccch.

They've got Derrick Rose, Luol Deng and Joakim Noah. Ellis might be a fit there. Hinrich is shooting terribly this year, but he's a big combo guard and Nelson loves those kinds of players.

4. MEMPHIS: For Rudy Gay and Marko Jaric.

The Grizzlies will be very hesitant to move Gay, at least for a few months, but at some point they'll have to consider it since he'll be a restricted free agent this summer and sounds ready to look around.

Memphis happens to be Ellis' residence these days. He has always thought about playing there.

But I don't think the Grizz will want to take all that salary back, and I don't think Ellis fits with OJ Mayo and Mike Conley Jr., but apparently, neither does Gay.

I'll put this in the unlikely category. Still it's worth a call or two by the Warriors-Gay is probably the most talented player right now that I consider potential Ellis trade bait.

5. NEW JERSEY: For a package that could include Yi Jianlian, Terrence Williams and Rafer Alston.

A sure sign of a terrible team: They've got a million guys you could bundle together for a proposal like this.

No trade will fix what ails the horrendous Nets, but they do have to think about what fits best with Devin Harris. Maybe that's Ellis. That'd be a nasty backcourt to defend, that's for sure.

(Not so hot on the other side, but oh well.)

Meanwhile, Yi and Williams seem like excellent Nellie-ball fits and Alston is a shooting point guard to help out Curry.

This only is considered by the Nets if they do a tear down project. Which isn't a crazy thought at this point.

6. TORONTO: For a package including DeMar DeRozan and Marcus Banks.

Chris Bosh is not available to the Warriors. Is not. And even if he was, Toronto wouldn't move him for Ellis.

Andrea Bargnani also probably is not available: You don't move a 7-footer who is just now playing well for a shoot-first short guard who makes $11M a year.

So to pump up the potential value coming to the Warriors, I had to put DeRozan in there. Other than that, the Raptors don't match up as trade partners (after they stole away Marco Belinelli this summer).

Only reason Toronto's on this list is that Ellis seems like a nice fit for the Raptors' rush-rush offensive system.

* OTHER TEAMS I CONSIDERED BUT REJECTED…

-New York Knicks: Mike D'Antoni likes Ellis, but all they've got are terrible deals (Eddy Curry, Jared Jeffries) that the Warriors won't want or expiring deals (almost everybody else) that the Knicks need to keep to get ready for this summer. And no No. 1 pick to sweeten the deal.

-New Orleans: Geez, all they've got is bad deals and no desire to add long money. Unless Warriors want Peja Stojakovic's awful deal (and I don't think they do), there's no value here. And no, the Hornets are not trading Chris Paul unless they get another young mega-star back.

-Orlando: Otis Smith likes his ex-Warriors and Jameer Nelson just went down again, so the Magic could use a playmaker. Magic also is not too worried about long-term money since the title is in sight. But the only chunky contract they'd consider moving is Vince Carter's ($16.3M/$17.3M) and that's not what the Warriors will be seeking. Unless Warriors want Pietrus back! No.

-LA Clippers: Unless the Warriors have some secret love for Al Thornton and/or DeAndre Jordan (and I doubt they do), very tough to see a match for Ellis. I do realize he played great with Baron Davis before.

-Boston: Celtics sure could use some speed on that team. Really, really could use some speed. I mean, REALLY could use some speed. But they're totally built for a title run… all the money is sopped up by Garnett, Pierce, Ray Allen and Rondo and the rest are scraps. Warriors have scraps. No workable trade here.

I agree. Paul is a player you can actually build around, but I doubt us getting anybody of his caliber.

No one in the league has a player of Devean George's caliber, so anything's possible.

Barnett - Well, someone needed to light a fire underneath him.

Isnt this supposed to be the coach's job?

Good to hear that Bell actually played tonight. It sucks he does have to get surgery since Azubuike is out. Why don't the W's consider signing Iverson?Haha.

That's what I initially thought, too.

Like I've stated before, I believe the players have tuned Don Nelson out. It's time for a new voice, time for a new coach, then the players will becomemore responsive.

That was brought up during Damon Bruce's show on KNBR after the game. It would just be funny to see Nelson bring Iverson off the bench, andIverson being hella pissed about it. That's probably how it'd end up anyway with Iverson storming off the court.

Rudy Gay what?

Trade Monta for Rudy?

That might work for GSW, but they're getting .60 cents on the dollar in that deal.

Rudy is a fantastic athlete, but that's about it.

Not unless you packaged someone else along, pass.

i really hope Bell doesnt have to go through with surgery, hes a great leader on the court that WE NEED

I don't get why Memphis would want Monta. They already have O.J. Mayo, Mike Conley, and they just got Jamaal Tinsley. Where would Monta fit?
