The Old PlayStation Thread | *NEW THREAD IS UP*

If they're going to stop used games just do it properly. I buy all my games new so I'm all for devs getting what they deserve but at the same time things like taking a game to a friend's house or fighting game tournaments will get impacted so they need to find a way to do it properly

Wait...free online gaming? Play station for the win

:lol

Seriously if they go the pay for play method

Xbox will win as they have the better online experience
Like other said it will probably be different tiers for PS+. The whole instant gaming on PS+ was probably done to test the waters for a huge catalog through gaikai.
Also I haven't heard of a streaming solution for Live so they might be a step behind unlike this gen where they had the advantage but I'm sure they have a lot of services to bring as well.

Any word on party chat ? 8o
The Vita has party chat so PS4 will too and there will be a headset bundled in every console.

And with digital versions of games, we'll probably see more aggressive pricing models. In my eyes, thats the only advantage of used games, so I think it'll be fine.

I'm about to start selling all my PS3 game. smh..

It's been real Need For Speed Hot Pursuit. :{

sorry but I'm not on board with that.
Not everybody has wifi or a way to sign in to the psn.
And on that note, everyone isn't a thief. It's like people are being punished over this. I get it, they need to make their money but if the above is true, they aren't considering the little guy that saves his/her money up and/or whose parents can't really afford the system or the net.

Lastly, what about tournaments..?

Since the PS4 has been announced, I figured it would be a good time to post this before some of you get rid of your games. Here is a list of rare PS3 games and their values. Be sure to check this before trading in or selling your PS3 items. Please keep in mind the article is from 2011, so the values might have changed.

I bought the GTA IV collector's edition and still have everything. I never took the duffel bag out of it's plastic bag. I wonder...

You can still play offline but there's a sticky situation in terms of how this is going to break down with publishers. Like I said before there's the over arching console based DRM which is how the games are authenticated via the PSN. The game will have to be authenticated via the PSN when you buy it. However, publishers may put in a second layer of DRM using their for using their own online services like EA does.

How this authentication works is still up for grabs. I've heard everything from registration codes to hardcoded cryptography in the discs. It's been discussed that you could be able to "gift" games that have been bought once from 1 account to another one time only. But this would require both parties to be active PSN friends.

And I don't want to hear any BS from JetPac about how Sony is Fing people over because this is coming to Xbox as well. This pressure came from the publishers and I'm fully on board with this course of action. Big corporate resellers and screwing developers over and the consumer over. And don't tell me games cost too much money and we're being greedy. You dudes forget Genesis games were 60-70 bucks and they didn't cost nearly as much to create.
See my whole thing is what about going to a friend or relatives house go play or sometimes i give my old games to my lil brother or a cousin of mine because they arent able to get games cause of their parents or something like that. What about my console braking and having to go through a couple like what happened with the 360. Like i get what they tryna do with the used game thing but what about things like that where u give ur old games to a relative or go to someone elses house yo play? Not everyone is tryna get over on used games

I don't understand what you're not down with. I'm 100% sure you will be able to play offline. You should be able to register your games via the web if necessary. If you own a PS4 why would you be complaining about not having access to an internet source?

You're telling me that people own PS3's and have never been able to get on the internet? I doubt it.

^ exactly.

Wait so if a game comes out... So 2 years later woukd you still be able to find it cheap? Cuz if there's no used games how would they get cheap?

I know people with a 360 that dont have the internet in their home

Once upon a time a magical technology was invented. I believe it was called wifi.

Bruh u need the internet to use wifi
And not everyone just lets the whole neighborhood use their wifi
U may let people use ur wifi signal but i dont

I mean people have computers and no internet and whatnot. Ok, I get that. But to say you have no access to internet is absurd. Whether it's free public wifi or going to your local library you have access to the internet.

You can buy a $500 game system and 60 dollar games but you can't even get DSL for $15-20 a month? I just don't understand that.

its not that but...and the ceo of sony pointed it out...there isnt alot of countries that have high speed internet. There are tons of countries who at best get cellphone edge speeds (in terms of home user). And yes there is tons of ppl who have a 360/ps3 who dont have internet. Alot of ppl i know use internet just on their cellphone, or at school, or at work. And thats here stateside. Then there are many rural areas that dont offer high speed internet...and rather pay 20 or so a month for snail slow speed, they opt not to even have internet at all.

So what...... ppl would go take there game to someone elses house, school, work etc... everytime they need to do a update, d/l and register a game etc...

Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag Leaked Screenshot/Details - Sony Confirmed for PS3/PS4

The next Assassin's Creed game will be called 'Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag', if supposedly leaked promotional materials turn out to be genuine.

The poster pictured right, passed to Kotaku by 'a tipster', clearly shows the aforementioned title, along with a hooded figure who would appear to be the new main protagonist, surrounded by pirates on a pirate ship.

According to Examiner, the main character is Edward Kenway, father of Haytham Kenway from Assassin's Creed 3, and an Assassin and known Privateer. The game is claimed to be set in the caribbean, with Jamaica, Cuba and the Bahamas among the islands that will be visited.

The site claims the game is up and running on Xbox 360, but next-generation versions are also planned.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed earlier this month that Ubisoft plans to publish a new Assassin's Creed game during the 2014 financial year.

It was confirmed the game will take place in a new time period and star a new character, but little else was revealed.

As Kotaku notes, this isn't the first time the title 'Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag' has been rumoured - weeks ago a Reddit poster claimed to have spotted promotional materials for the game on the laptop screen of a woman sitting in the seat infront of them on a plane.

A separate Reddit poster also claimed to have eavesdropped on two seeming marketing staff discussing an Assassin's Creed project titled 'Black Flag' in a San Francisco cafe - although they - possibly presumptuously - described what they heard as AC3 DLC. According to the poster, the game being discussed featured a focus on naval combat, and a commercial being pitched featured the tagline "Survival is the Only Thing Worth Dying For," accompanying footage of "an Admiral of the British Royal Navy" attempting to arrest the main protagonist while out at sea.

Sony Confirmation - http://www.examiner.com/article/assassin-s-creed-4-confirmed-for-ps3-via-sony-ps4-as-well

"Assassin's Creed 4" had been confirmed by Ubisoft weeks ago, but now some new information that has come out of the Sony camp has pointed to the next installment in the "Assassin's Creed" franchise coming to the PS3.

According to a report from GameChup yesterday, Michael Denny, senior vice-president of Sony WWS, talked about some of the upcoming games that will be coming to the PlayStation 3.

"Look at the games coming out on the PlayStation 3 like 'The Last of Us,' 'Beyond: Two Souls,' GT6, and then on the third-party side of things another fantastic 'Assassin’s Creed,' 'GTA.'

"It’s important for our content to have that kind of longevity because, as I was saying [about the PS Vita], the games that come through are going to get better and better over time," Denny said.

Just about all of the titles that Denny discussed are expected and have been revealed up to this point, including the next installment of "Assassin's Creed." Gamers who were wondering whether or not "Assassin's Creed 4" would be coming to the PlayStation 3, can now breath freely as it will hit the older Sony console.

Most suspect the majority of games that are released on the PS4 and Xbox 720 will also be ported to their predecessors because Sony and Microsoft do not want to cut off that stream of revenue right away.

"Assassin's Creed 4" has been confirmed for released on the PlayStation 3, and many can expect the title to hit the PS4 as well.

thank you.

i was one of those ppl a few years ago (during the early-mid stages of ps3). i really never bought into online gaming like that. i understand most ppl like fps and all that but i've mostly been a fighting games and rpg type of person...or even platformers.

call me old fashioned but i'm more into inviting friends over and/or going to tournaments.

so no, i didn't make too much of an effort in getting wifi and all that years ago. there are ppl that are still like that and they should get punished for it? maybe they can't afford wifi/the net.

so they're supposed to bring their ps4 to the library and do what? i dunno, i'm not feeling this at all. its enough to pay 60+ dollars for the games, now we have to do extra **** just to activate it? i don't always sign online, because again, i don't see the need to.

suppose i'm out of town and cop a game and want to play it on a friend's/family member's system? or even my own but don't have an internet connection? i gotta wait? na, not feeling that.

I think there are plenty of us we just don't have a large voice

I'm not a big online gamer. When I want alot of interraction I go out and chill.or I just go to someones house and play

I don't mean that as a mean comment. I just grew up where videogames where something i could do on my own. and enjoy on my own time at my own pace like a book

I mean but seriously fellas its 2013 :lol

It's not just gaming... Pretty soon EVERYTHING is gonna be done on the Internet.

Hell it's phones today that have hotspots.

My mom is 48 and uses the Internet.

How the hell does a kid with a ps4 not have the Internet? That's just crazy :lol

But to each his own I guess.

You can still play it on your own...

I dont understand why this is such a big deal. Its like owning a smartphone with no data plan or Wifi. Sure its works for its primary function, but there is so much more it can do.

yea www should have nothing to do with video game necessity. i understand the companies are sick of getting pirated. maybe if they stamp their games with 'not for resale" that way gamestop has to cease their pre-owned business model.

as for pirating, maybe find some other way to ensure games arent getting pirated. maybe make it so as soon as sum1 signs on, psn detects any pirated software/firmware and locks the system. or somehow locks it before signing it, that way ppl dont just get 2 systems - one for pirating and one for legitimate use.

im trying to address both issues here- pre-owned and pirating. because i do see the various sides to this debate

so yea, just a few ideas. however, the true spirit of gaming (as i grew up with it) is a child and their adventures. at most a few friends comming over for laughs and split screen action.

the internet should not be mandtory. not by a long shot. its principle

i have a feeling that all these cross generational games from 3rd parties are gonna cause a slow start for next gen consoles
ohwell.gif

Yea I was just thinking the same thing.

If it comes out for PS3 why the hell would I need it for PS4? I know it's not gonna be that big of an upgrade. And not use the full power of the PS4.
