The Old PlayStation Thread | *NEW THREAD IS UP*

I agree, when you have such a huge install base with the PS3 and IMO haven't shown why you NEED a PS4 right away, it's gonna be a problem.

not hating but it doesn't impress me at all. People that talk about graphics don't realize their tv sucks lol or the hdmi cord isn't gonna give them what ps3 offers. so why waste money on this when you don't get what you buy. just my opinion.

I mean people have computers and no internet and whatnot. Ok, I get that. But to say you have no access to internet is absurd. Whether it's free public wifi or going to your local library you have access to the internet.

You can buy a $500 game system and 60 dollar games but you can't even get DSL for $15-20 a month? I just don't understand that.
you can say the same thing about people talking **** about xbox live right?.. you have a $500 tv, $400 system, internet, and a sneakerhead but wanna complain about $7 a month?

yea www should have nothing to do with video game necessity. i understand the companies are sick of getting pirated. maybe if they stamp their games with 'not for resale" that way gamestop has to cease their pre-owned business model.

as for pirating, maybe find some other way to ensure games arent getting pirated. maybe make it so as soon as sum1 signs on, psn detects any pirated software/firmware and locks the system. or somehow locks it before signing it, that way ppl dont just get 2 systems - one for pirating and one for legitimate use.

im trying to address both issues here- pre-owned and pirating. because i do see the various sides to this debate

so yea, just a few ideas. however, the true spirit of gaming (as i grew up with it) is a child and their adventures. at most a few friends comming over for laughs and split screen action.

the internet should not be mandtory. not by a long shot. its principle
see the thing is just like other digital forms of information...there is no fullproof way to prevent it. Alot of times its ppl who crack codes/programmers locks etc... and then distribute/copy the info. The very thing you are speaking of....games for windows does and if you try to use a pirate pc games it flags it and prevents you from playing it and shut down your steam. But like i just mentioned...hackers and crackers have found ways to get around that.

Indirectly related but look at apple...there is a cracker/hacker crew....that based on the design and programmer basic used on ios 6...have already developed a code to crack the latest ios before it has even been released. I know sony has developed a cross reference software detection programming that basically checks the programming and coding of a game by the load times etc... and if it doesnt matches it sends a signal to the game system and prevents the game from loading... Sure that will work for a minute. But as soon as some guys learn the coding and the processing time for the games and operations... that technology will be null and void.

Also i dont like the idea of the system monitors and tracks what you do how you do it and when you do it. Sony claims oh this will make gamming more fun and the internet more efficient for you by basically tracking you and suggesting games based on the type of games you most often play. Develop a power saving mode, based on average times etc you play your system. Suggest websites etc... based on your search and online activity.

I dont know anyone from sony, so to have them track and collect everything about my personal life to the point the systems d/l games it thinks ill like, send me youtube videos it feels id enjoy, turns on and off based on the most likelihood i would be playing the system....Im not on some paraniod, the big brother is watching freak. But i think that is a little overboard. I and i think many others play video games.....for personal enjoyment, to relieve stress, take your mind off things, relax etc...

I'm hyped for this even though the conference was a little underwhelming. I'll probably copp day 1. I think I might own all three consoles this gen, but I'll hold off on xbox for awhile and see how the hardware holds up, ain't no way I'm buying multiple xbox's, skipped out on 360 due to rrod

What's ridiculous is that your holding out on the next Xbox rather than the Wii U

Warranty is always there, cause everyone knows on release date thePS4 and Next Xbox will have bugs

^^ already got the wii u, I know consoles have bugs when released, but most can be fixed with a software update, but the 360 was just faulty from the jump with its overheating issues. A problem M$ knew about before they rushed to release the system, and that's a hardware problem that can't be fixed with an update. plus if you can't play games offline on the next Xbox and are forced to subscribe to live then I'm passing for sure

deep down was definitely real time "in engine"

it just wasnt running on ps4 hardware, there was practically no aliasing in the trailer

Sony and developers were being very selective on words regarding those demos running on PS4. I think they did confirm Deep Down was running on PS4, or based on PS4 architect.

Rewatch the trailer in 1080p full screen you can definitely see some aliasing, artifacts, and some jaggies. I definitely think that the whole trailer was "in engine" and some parts were gameplay it's the fact that the camera angles and mocap animations that won't be in game at all are tripping alot of people out. Also Capcom confirmed that it was running on "PS4 Hardware" whatever that means.

I think it will really depend on what xbox does with regards to their new console on how the market as a whole will be heading. I mean there were rumors the xbox won't even have a disc drive right? If they don't allow used games i think playstation may follow suit.

But from a casual gamer standpoint....I am not on board. I have bought 1 "new" game a year the past 3 years. The rest i buy used. I bought NBA2k12 for $20 used right when 13 was about to come out. I buy old RPGs used or re-released for cheap (shadow of colossus and ico on same disc, god of war etc).
I basically refuse to pay $60 for a new game unless i know i will play it a ton. That is why ive only bought PES each year new. Its my fav soccer game and i play it all the time they can have my money.

I don't know how you would do it but if there is no used or discount gaming market....im out :lol I have never pirated or softmodded a system but if it were possible on next gens....i might try it so i don't have to buy every game brand new.

thats just code for...well we used some of the hardware etc... that will be in the system to demo the game...trust and believe if it wasnt in engine and in fact real time...they would have tooted and bragged emphatically about it.

yeah, theres artifacts but thats mainly due to all the blending and particles effects, that level of effects is new this generation so obviously its not perfect

im talking about how theres no aliasing where there should be, like around the character or around the environment

that scene after they show the fire on the ground where they focus on the armored guy and the bald guy, theres no aliasing anywhere, just like most of the trailer

this is a multiplat (that will be on ps4) running on a high end pc card that has been anti-aliased up the ***

when you actually see it on ps4, that dragons fire breath is the first thing getting a downgrade

i have a feeling that all these cross generational games from 3rd parties are gonna cause a slow start for next gen consoles :\

I think it depends on the amount of cross titles and what the game is.
Something like watchdogs will get affected so they will have to probably advertise it as a PS4 title and act like the old gen versions don't exist. Just like how MS' deal with Activision for COD.

As for Battlefield 4, just say you'll get 64 players online as opposed to 24 on current gen titles and your set

As to the internet talk, I was one of those guys. My place is super poor. I used to borrow my neighbor's wifi until they caught on and put a password. Now I tether from my phone though :hat

So I just heard that EA is doing a deal with M$ and madden will only be coming out for Xbox the next couple years. Is this true?

If so... **** EA

PS4 WILL SUPPORT CROSS-GAME CHAT

In a press release that accompanied Sony’s Playstation Meeting on February 20th, Sony confirmed the Playstation 4 will support cross-game chat. The feature has been long demanded by Playstation 3 owners, and is one of the few tangible advantages that Xbox Live still has over Playstation Network.

Parity and beyond with all of the Xbox 360′s network features was heavily implied when Sony’s Andrew House revealed the Dual Shock 4 would have a headphone jack and that the Playstation 4 would be bundled with a headset. With Sony closing the gap in online capability, and the tremendous value offered with Playstation Plus, Microsoft will have to demonstrate new value in Xbox Live if they want to justify continuing to charge for the service.

No. But they did they they're looking at charging $70 for games. They killed their projected outlook for titles and cut them down to only core IPs. So they're spending the same/more money on less titles and expect you to pay for it. Because they beleive by doing this they can provide you with a better quality gaming experience. While this remains to be seen I would say to let's see if they prove themselves.

We'll see how that goes with the micro-transactions. I'm all for Micro-transactions if they serve as cosmetic changes to the game and don't modify gameplay in a negative way. See: Final Fantasy: All the Bravest for how NOT to do this. But if they start going with this pay to play model (which even my studio has discussed) people are going to start getting pissed off.

Right now all the analysts for every studio and every publisher are looking at Steam and Valve as the model. Gaben and his crew are raking in the money. Valve knows how to keep its players hooked and coming back for more. Micro-trasactions are a part of that. You can say that it's ******** and you hate them but the financial data does not support that. People continue to buy in-game items and abilities.

Where you see the most gain is a free-to-play title that is wholly supported by micro-transactions. Companies like EA, Square, ATVI, and others are jumping on the bandwagon even if it gives minimal returns, because at the end of the day you are going to get positive financial returns if you handle the development costs of the items properly. A lot of thought goes into these decisions and yes money is a HUGE if not the single biggest motivator.

If you want a great example of how to do this the RIGHT way see Team Fortress 2:

Microsoft to reveal EA partnership at Next Xbox event
Exclusive add-on content deal expected; Publisher exec says prepare for big announcements

As the industry prepares for a highly anticipated Microsoft press conference in which it will showcase a new console for the first time in eight years, publisher Electronic Arts is preparing to step on stage to announce a key exclusivity agreement.

Peter Moore, a former Xbox executive, is now second-in-command at EA CVG has learned that EA has secured a partnership with the Xbox firm, according to accounts from two sources who wished to remain anonymous. However, neither person was certain of what EA will show, nor what the terms of the exclusivity partnership will be.
Due to the necessities of multiplatform development and publishing, it is likely that such a partnership will not extend beyond exclusive downloadable content, or staggered release dates. An outright exclusive EA game on the Next Xbox would be unlikely, and certainly a major coup for Microsoft if such a deal were to be secured.

Last Wednesday, rival publisher Activision announced a key partnership with Sony which will result in - among other business obligations - exclusive add-on content for the PS4 edition of Destiny.

While other major publishers, from Ubisoft to Square Enix to Capcom, also spoke at Sony's PS4 showcase, EA did not participate.

Both industry sources had different speculation on what the EA partnership would be. One claimed it might be Battlefield 4, while the other suspected that Respawn Entertainment will make a surprise appearance. Neither person works for EA or Microsoft, and so could not confirm the terms of the deal.

However, EA's chief financial officer hinted at such a deal on Tuesday.

Speaking at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference, CFO Blake Jorgensen was asked why Electronic Arts did not appear at the PlayStation 4 press conference.

"It was more about timing of our own slate as well as trying to maintain a good balance of power with all the parties out there and choosing when to unveil certain pieces of software," he replied.

Jorgensen added: "I'd say, between now and E3, you are going to see a lot of stuff, and we are going to chose with our marketing teams when to announce."

But he clarified that EA was clearly going to support the PlayStation 4 platform.

"At the end of the day we are very excited about Sony's platform. We feel there's a huge opportunity there. The technical power on the platform is going to allow us to do a substantial amount of things that have never been done before.

"I have seen the new Battlefield, and it is just stunning. It is just amazing what the imagination of the game developers [at DICE] are allowed to do with that much power."

It has become a growing expectation in the industry that Microsoft will announce its next-generation Xbox platform at a special one-off event in late April.

Nah that's never going to happen. Dont think the NFL would even allow that. Whatever the EA deal is it probably has nothing to do with any sports title. I could see exclusive DLC for BF4 or something
