The Assassin’s Creed movie seems to have avoided a financial disaster, thanks to foreign sales. The $125 million budget movie, which fell short of sales expectations during its opening week in the United States, has earned nearly $51 million in the country to date (32.8 percent) whereas foreign ticket sales amounted to over $104 million (67.2 percent). It now stands at a worldwide total of $154,897,665, according to Box Office Mojo.
This isn’t a stellar performance but that’s hardly surprising considering that critics weren’t exactly impressed. However, audience scores have largely been average or positive so it really isn’t all that bad. As videogamer notes, Assassin’s Creed stands at number nine overall among top video game movies in the US and looks like it’s set to overtake Resident Evil: Apocalypse to claim the eighth spot.
Assassin’s Creed movie has yet to open in some markets so these figures will rise. How much they’ll rise by remains to be seen.
