FYI, they added a new crafting material (Umbracite) that you can only get from completing twilight missions and by running co op (i'm not sure if it's only random co op or not). The bad part is thats the only way to get it, but the good part is that it lets you pick what buff you want to put on your weapon/armor (like change to attack or CCD). So the reward is definitely worth the grind now.

You mentioned that there is no having to leave certain chests closed to get the Zodiac Spear?
If I remember they fixed it in the International edition, but I just wanted to be sure.

Lowkey glad I didn't play through xii way back, it's refreshing to go through something blind.
With that said, 2x and 4x mode are a must for me, expedites the mindless grinds without compromising the story.

There is a different way to get the spear in TZA:
In the Zodiac versions, the player no longer needs to beware of opening forbidden chests, as the concept was removed. There is no longer a Zodiac Spear to be found at Necrohol of Nabudis, but it can still be acquired via different means.
It can be found on a chest in the Special Charter Shaft in the Henne Mines. The chest spawns 1% of the time, but once it does, it will always contain the spear. The chest also respawns. It can also be acquired through the Hunt Club sidequest by giving 10 trophies each to the bangaa brothers Atak, Blok, and Stok and buying it, together with the Zodiac Escutcheon, for 999,999 gil. Alternately, if the player gives more than 15 trophies to Atak, Atak will reward the player with the Zodiac Spear.
Only the Uhlan can equip the Zodiac Spear. While it is still the most powerful spear, it is not the most powerful weapon in terms of Attack Power, being trumped by both the Trango Tower and Seitengrat: weapons exclusive to this version.
