The Old PlayStation Thread | *NEW THREAD IS UP*

Now I see why the change up in launch color for PS5 launch cosole. Black to a lot of people is sleek & cool. To a lot of other people it's boring and gathers a lot of dust

Which is why I'll NEVER own a black car dust, dirt, and scratches all show so easily on anything.

how many of yall are actually going back to play PS1-3 games?
honest question

Unplugged my PS3 ages ago and new games take priority over PS1-2 games.
I kept it plugged in for the PS+ games in the backlog but never got to them once PS4 picked up steam. Once PSVR came out it was a wrap. Unplugged the PS3 to make space.

I'm probably in the minority but I prefer remakes and remasters. Give me all the upgrades and trophy support.
I understand why some prefer BC though.

8k gaming would be nice cant wait to see if sony confirms this

It's already confirmed. The PS5 can output an 8K signal.
I don't think anyone is going to make a game in 8K though as it's a waste of resources. You can have the game in 4K and have other graphical effects like Ray Tracing instead.

I wouldn't expect anything in 8K unless it's a PS1/2 game or a simple side scroller and even then I think they will prioritise 120fps.

Who even still plays their retro consoles from a couple years back? Like one of those tweets said if that's your thing, actively, you don't mind buying the old consoles or other devices to play it. Who in the hell is building a 10 core, rtx 3000 series beast of a pc in 2020 talking about they can't wait to play Worms?

I plan on playing exactly zero.
That’s the thing, most people aren’t going to. People just want/need a reason to complain about something that doesn’t even apply to them. I believe Sony or some other publisher had data that showed less 5% of people actually use BC. That 5% could be wrong but fact is most people aren’t using it, therefore it doesn’t make sense to put money into. Truthfully I would use it but it’s not something to cry over. I just wish we could get some of those old gameS enhanced and with trophy support.

Thank you all for this; feel like there's a 'herd' mentality as far as 'BC/backwards-compatibility' goes. With the trend towards all digital and SONY/MS showing hard numbers that people prefer digital vs. physical media (I don't personally), I find it hard to believe that the majority of PS5 owners are going to (physically) go to their game library/archive/closet/mom's garage and dust out their old PS1/PS2 games.

I'll date myself here and say that SNES didn't play NES games and the N64 didn't play SNES or NES. FWIW, keep your old systems and prevent them from ending up in landfills. There are so many affordable options to play those old joints on current TVs right now. Hooking up to your TV should take about 5-10 minutes at the most.

I'm not buying a PS5 to play old games, so it doesn't bother me. The whole point for me is to experience the new console, controller, games, graphics etc.

I have a decent PS4 backlog, so if it didn't play PS4 games I would be upset at that though.

This might be the first SSD that we can put in the PS5 to expand the storage at 7GB/s read speeds.
Looking at the potential point though, I would rather put that money into a new TV or the PS5 peripherals for now and wait for more SSD's with this performance and price drops.

Not yet but we're practically in September. This week or next will be my guess.

Damn might actually have to build a new gaming pc now. New cpu/gpu/ssd/ram seems at the first noticeable shift in tech in a minute.

I wasn’t around NT at the beginning of the PS3/360 gen but anybody who denied party chat was trippin’

Sounds a lot like, the old "we don't need a party chat" movement in here.
One thing about BC with Xbox versus PS is that I don’t expect Sony to put in the effort that MS has. If I’m just getting PS1 games on PS5, it’s not a big deal to me.

Either Keith or Henzo put that team together in the draft, and on paper they were probably the best.

I dont think they won that tournament, but their group chat was A+.

I know Dennis (TapTapPull in the video) recorded a few of these matches.
