The RETRO Gaming Thread!

I picked up this GBA SP for $10.99 with charger and all these games included. Problem is the battery is dead (19 years old) and won’t charge anymore. I still think I got a good deal if it’s only a battery that needs replacing.

Many 3D games from PS1 definitely still hold up, especially if we’re talking gameplay. Tekken 3, MGS1, Street Fighter EX games, FF9, Chrono Cross, Soul Blade, etc. I guess mostly fighters running at 60 FPS and late gen RPGs.

Haven’t watched this yet, but this guy always delivers regarding Sega. Plus he’s talking about my favorite game in the series. Soul Calibur 2 has better gameplay, but modes and story, nothing tops SC1.

Soul Calibur 1 was great, my favorite fight game as you can enjoy even if you're not strong unlikely some Street Fighter games

Metal Slug 1 is great, they used to release on PSP a Metal Slug collection in one UMD, MS1 was the only I suceed to beat ( at least I think I finished it  ) + Metal Slug is great for speedruns

I’m definitely going to buy a PS2 and N64 this year just to reassemble my childhood
I don’t care if I got to find a big booty TV just to play the games
This has to happen in 2021

YOu need to holla at folks in here then.

Are you just looking to collect or are you trying to PLAY?

nice TURBO UNO TURBO UNO + cartridges are more enjoyable to collect than CD's

Those ones look dope, nothing alike the ones we already know
Just discovered in the video posted before than Super Mario Bros 2 we have both in USA and France isn't the real Super Mario Bros 2 because it was judged as too similar to the 1st one and also too challenging, so they just took another game by the same developpers + Shigeru Miyamoto worked on this another game too, and they just changed characters...

Super Mario All Stars on SNES also changed the look of Super Mario Bros and I wonder if that doesn't make the game more difficult...
Got to check the OG. Hope they would have continue to develop Mario games in 2D, even if they're doing them in 3D too, because all my favorite Mario games are 2D and I was never a fan of Super Mario 64, unlike a lot of people who love it...

Playing against the cpu in some Street Fighter games is so trash. I realize these were arcade games and the purpose was to get your quarters, but they really could have made some adjustments to the home versions. SSF2 Turbo is not even playable on the 30th Anniversary Collection. Even on one star the game is on F you difficulty.

The only way you can enjoy these games is to find people of similar skill to play with, and a lot of folks ain't got time for that nowadays.

Yes, I was disappointed of replaying it solo because I used to play this and all the DBZ's on SNES with another kid at the time, and playing against CPU doesn't deserve it

Thanks dude, I was excited when I saw the low price tag on it. I’m going to replace the battery on it since it’s old and bloated. I just seen ebay has them for under $5 shipped.

I too wasn’t aware of the the Japanese SMB2 until youtube schooled me on it 10+ years ago. I still like the “re-badged” American version though, fun game even if the controls were a little different.

What killed the Dreamcast? Sega of Japan and the Playstation 2. That's what. If anyone has ever read Console Wars, it's seems pretty clear that Sega earned their failures, in particular Sega of Japan. They deserve to be where they're at today. I really do miss the 2K series though.

The Saturn killed Sega overall though. The fact that Sega of America CEO told them to tag team with Sony and their PlayStation against Nintendo (after Nintendo screwed Sony) and they had first dibs on the Ultra 64 tech, but passed on both to come with the 2D powerhouse of the Saturn. Too much pride to listen to the stupid Americans and not enough foresight to see the 3D gaming future of the era.

Dreamcast is still my favorite console ever, but the Switch is creeping on it.

Sera made that useless 32x adapter for the genesis too Charged like 200 for it then announced the Sega CD before releasing.

SEGA dropped the ball with the Saturn by not making games for a number of their successful franchises from the 16bit era. I get that not everything would've translated well into 3D but in retrospect it's the 2D Saturn content that's aged the best and they should've focused on it considering that the Saturn hardware was not that great at 3D.

However SONY really came out to play with the PSX and offered cheaper software licensing to developers as well as turned a blind eye to the rampant piracy on the system. They had DEEP pockets in the 90s and could eat software losses in order to gain a huge chunk of market share.

My son can steer a robot using rocket boost around a damn fantasy land with disappearing platforms and electrocuting enemies, but ask him to run left to right and avoid a Goomba and he's toast. He's 4 and they don't make kids like they used to. SMH.

I made that same observation about my nephews when I gave them an NES controller
