It depends on what the player wants out of career.
If the player wants options and mobility and to be able to jump from team to team he should be signing shorter contracts (think Lebron)
If he wants to play it less risky and go for the guaranteed money over a long period of time then he should take the longer contract. (think Wall, AD)
It's whatever, either way. But I don't think player B should be forcing himself out of a contract he no longer likes 1.5 yr before his contract is up. Someone who is doing that is trying to have it both ways..
