This new look for NT..

I wouldn't call it a "new look." The theme is the same. We just updated the forum software to the newest version. The only changes to the theme code were to stop the layout shift that had been occurring as ads loaded in. The new version overhauled the post editor, so we'll be spending some time adjusting that to get the layout closer to what it was prior to the upgrade. Any bugs can be reported here: https://niketalk.com/forums/feedback.7412/

We're aware that there's a minor issue with the alerts drop down. It'll get fixed. In the meantime, the alerts page still works normally: https://niketalk.com/account/alerts
There's a direct link to it from the settings menu. You can also try adjusting your alerts preferences from there.

Keeping the forum software up to date isn't optional; it's essential. I know that the more time people spend here, the less comfortable they tend to be with change.

There has never been an update, no matter how minor, that has failed to elicit complaints from some of the regulars. People complained after we left Yuku, for crying out loud.

Most of the updates are under the hood, but there are a couple of new features we'll be enabling soon that could be of interest to regular participants in some of the larger discussion topics:
  1. Multiple users will finally be able to share control of topic posts to keep them up to date.

  2. They can then use this access to build a thread index, so you can tag key moments in a thread and jump straight to them. If you're in the Jordan 1 thread, for example, you could skip to where a particular colorway was revealed/discussed rather than trying to guess the page. This should make it easier to navigate large discussions. A specialized "reader mode" lets you read only those tagged posts, which is a great way to catch up with news.

i realize I'm on the free version so I know the limits but the Similar Threads feature is cluttered
I'm not sure how the system is determining which threads are similar, but I am unimpressed by its selections thus far.

That said, forums can be intimidating for some people to navigate and content discovery options help people circulate throughout the site rather than silo themselves into individual threads.

I can see if there's some way to add a toggle switch or something in the future, but, for now, it's at the bottom of the page and isn't that difficult to ignore for those who don't find it useful.

We on the Free Trial NT

Quite a few errors. Not seeing new post characteristics. notifications tripping. huge gaps in the screen where ads are supposed to be. the similar threads has hella suggestions lol
If you want to vent, that's fine. It's the thread about nothing.
If you want to submit actionable feedback, go to the feedback forum and create a thread - the more specific the better.

This isn't really the place to be having this discussion, but because I saw some comments I figured I would briefly address the scope of the updates and give everyone a link to the proper venue for bug reports. I have no interest in trying to take over this thread and turning it into a makeshift feedback thread when we already have a dedicated space for exactly that. Even if there's nothing in this particular update that you like, there were essential security fixes that necessitated its installation.

So you're aware: the "gaps where the ads are supposed to be" are necessary to preventing what's known as "cumulative layout shift."

Everyone hates it when the page jumps around while they're trying to scroll through a thread or - worse - compose a reply. This happens because different elements load in to pages at different times, and it's most pronounced on slower connections. (e.g. mobile.)

Ads are the LAST element to load in. Since ads come in all sorts of different sizes, the only way to prevent them from causing the layout to shift is to reserve the maximum possible amount of space that an ad could occupy. When the ad loads in, it may fill the area or be a little smaller, but still centered. It's better than the alternative.

If the complaint is that you're blocking the ads and now you have space in between posts, I care as much about that as Marvel does that your pirated screener of Spiderman: No Way Home doesn't have English subtitles.

I"m interested in the Tag Feature though - that's so much better.
It'll only be as useful as each thread's editors allow it to be, but I think it has a lot of potential.

I've wanted a feature like this on the site for years, and I was happy we could finally bring that on board.

The collaboration system also gives us a more fair way to ensure that topic posts are kept up to date than transferring threads away from an inactive member to someone else. This way, an entire group of editors can share the responsibilities of managing the topic post and associated thread index. The UI for it is kind of basic, but it does the job and you can always customize your topic post to incorporate them, offering greater control and customization options.

We should have at least one thread set up to allow users to build a thread index within the next 24-48 hours, and within a few days all thread starters should have the ability to invite users to collaborate and help them build indices in their own threads.

For now, nothing is on fire and the developer/system admin pulled an all nighter to get this all done off peak, so I think they're entitled to a well deserved rest on a Sunday.

I appreciate everyone's patience and understanding as the rough edges are smoothed out over the coming days.

so far I don't like whatever's new with the notifications.

before, if I log in and see I have 20 thread alert notifications., one click on my avatar on the top right would clear all of them. Now I gotta click each thread separately to bring the notification count down.
