I filed a police complaint against my nutjob neighbor but it turns out it’s completely legal to explicitly threaten people and their property. I asked the cops if I can threaten to shoot him if he comes to my door again and they said that’s also legal depending on the phrasing. That’s ridiculous.
The threat only becomes illegal when you attach an explicit illegal condition to the threat, extortion basically.

They’re sending an officer to pressure them into behaving like normal people either way but I doubt that’s gonna do much.

The nutjob works during the day so I went to visit his wife this morning to tell her that I reinforced my fencing. She was nice initially and invited me in for a coffee (???). She quickly got a bit defensive though when I added that I also wanted to notify her that I filed a complaint against her husband.

She started saying that her husband never threatened me personally and that I was actually egging on her husband by asking him to hit me, which never happened.

So I pulled out my phone, briefly played a snippet of the audio recording and said “look, we’re not doing this nonsense. I can send you the recording if your memory needs a refresher.”
To which she responded “oh oh recordings? well maybe I should talk to that officer about privacy laws.”
I prepared for that kind of bs so I gave her a copy of an article laying out the law regarding secret recordings, along with the copy of the police report.

I then said that I hoped we could get along from now on and that she’s free to come to my door if there’s an issue but that I’d call the cops immediately if her husband shows up.

Idk why but she was kinda friendly after that and wished me a good day when I left. Strange woman.

Hopefully that’s the last I hear of that nutjob neighbor.

Basically I have guinea pigs in my backyard and, unbeknownst to me, some accidentally broke out onto their property but returned on their own. Dude came to my door screaming about how he was going to beat my pets to death on my mom’s face, threatened to hit me, threatened to destroy my property, punched my doorbell and kicked a flower pot to pieces in my frontyard.
