The Timepiece Thread vol: READ THE 1st POST!!!

This begs the question - why did you pay full price? Did you want the "white glove treatment" from the AD in lieu of buying from a grey market seller like DavidSW at a discount?

Geniunely curious.

That's definitely not acceptable for the price you pay for a brand new. My AD got mine out of their vault and it was boxed up identical to the photo RFX posted. I would have wanted to see the watch in person first before buying.

I'm actually waiting on my AD to mail my appraisal sheet to me so I can add it to homeowners insurance.

I was told that Rolex has no AD that sells online, not sure how true that is. That's just a lot of money to spend and have anything happen.

Update:
The salesperson just got back to me, and told me I should go to an authorized Rolex dealer in my city and have it polished..and they will take care of the bill for me. He assured me that the watch was never purchased before and it was brand new and that the scratches must have occurred while someone was trying them on...idk..I really find that kind of suspect but at this point there is nothing i can do...I am not going to hop on a plane to Dallas and return the watch or ship it back to have it polished by them and deal with the hassle. They are firm on their refund policy and I already had the bracelet sized and removed 2 links.

I am new to this whole timepiece thing and I guess I should have been more careful but as long as the scratches are removed one way or another I will be happy....

do you guys think that a polishing will get the scratches out and how often do you all polish ur stainless rolexes?
You can bring in the Rolex dealer, run the serial number and check out the track history if its used or has its ever been service by them ( i believe) I bought a sub back in 07' and i tell you, there're so man scratches on the bracelet and the piece itself. I took it camping swimming half way around the world. If you plan to use as a daily (like i do) or your go to timepiece then i say f it. I believe its every 4 years it should be brought in for service/polish which im too busy/lazy to drop mine off think its around 400 plus with a month turn around. the more its polish the more material  is removed which is a bad thing.

I think he was willing to pay retail because he saves on tax (out of state purchase) and it might be the Batman, which is scarce in some areas. I think even DavidSW sells it for MSRP or close to it (haven't checked recently though)?

That is true but DavidSW is a grey market seller but through manipulation and AD contacts, he can get you one brand new with an AD warranty.

Yeah are they similar to Jomashop?

I would just want to pay more and know exactly what I'm getting then worry about if the movement is different or something and have no idea of knowing till after I buy it.

DavidSW and Joma are different, they are both grey market but Joma will never provide you with an AD warranty, you'll only get Jomas warranty.

To get an AD warranty through DavidSW you got to contact him directly and ask for it, he might not have it in stock, he might not then you'd have to wait but he is able to do it.

True it is the Batman..it's pretty hard to get a hold of it in store in my area! So when I saw the opportunity I just got excited.
.. It's not something I purchase everyday..and to answer ur question about why I paid retail, truth is I'm not really familiar with the underground sellers..as I said..I'm new to this..I just wanted to go the normal route..plus as RFX said, I was saving on taxes and tbh the price wasn't on my mind since it's a rare purchase for me

To be honest you did well for your first big purchase, no tax on a still rather rare Rolex that many still pay retail for so not bad. You did get excited a bit and did not inspect the watch carefully but just chuck that up as a lesson learned, next time just make sure you double check.

Just work on trying to get something out if the polish, forget about it and enjoy wearing the watch.

And congrats on a beautiful watch!

Dsw is slightly below retail if he has one in Stock with an ad card that's probably the best route

I got my Sub from DavidSW. Brand new with AD warranty.

Flawless transaction.

^^same

Also I need an unbiased review/opinion on some watch winders. The last two days I've had to set dates on watches without quick set. I'm to impatient for that

Wolf Design winders, I swear by them. It is so silent that I am not even sure it is working anymore until you actually see the watch spinning. Quality is great and price is reasonable enough, I say "reasonable enough" because it really depends what others watch collection are but they are in the mid-tier when it comes to pricing. Check Amazon for good prices, sometimes they have good promotions for a good discount.

^ ^ ^ Very good deal there.

Also, Hodinkee merging with Watchville.

And the last two talking watches:

Code didnt work for me ^

I do like the expedition with the green strap, the weekender is too small for me. 40mm is the smallest ill go

Working just fine. I guess just make sure the seller is Amazon.

Great news for new Rolex owners...

Rolex is extending its warranty period from 2 to 5 years for all watches sold after July,1 2015.

All watches sold from July,1 2013 to June,30 2015 will get an extra one year warranty extension.

So far this is approved in Europe but will/is likely applicable in the US in the very near future.

While not yet confirmed or announced by Rolex, many ADs have been getting letters and confirming the news.

Anyone know of a watch that looks similar to the Omega Speedmaster?? I really like this example but im obviously not ready to spend $4k on a watch just yet.

it's official:

NEWS: Rolex extends its warranty to 5 years

Beginning 1 July 2015, the Rolex International Warranty will more than double from its current 2-year warranty to a 5-year warranty from the date of purchase. Retroactive for all watches sold between 1 July 2013 and 30 June 2015, the Rolex International Warranty is extended for an additional one year for a total of a 3-year warranty. Designed for longevity, Rolex has an extensive network of authorised retailers and service centers in over 100 countries around the world.

This unprecedented move by the Swiss watchmaker is a game changer, and sets a new industry standard for luxury watches.

Lots of used Speedmasters on eBay around $1500-2000.

I'm waiting to get one until I hit a couple goals and really want one with the moon landing language or a showcase back.
