In MLS, it's all about bringing the right players in. At their ages, some of these dudes have more of a name than talent, and nothing kills team chemistry like having a mediocre player getting paid ten times what his teammates are getting. There are still plenty of players who can contribute from age 30 - 33, but you don't want guys who are just mailing it in, taking an extended American vacation to retirement. Seen it with Mista, Denilson, Luis Angel Landin, list goes on, dudes getting paid to not produce. I think its better for MLS to mostly target young South Americans who can appreciate the stability of living in America, a good paycheck that always comes on time, and solid exposure to European clubs. Fredy Montero, Alvaro Fernandez, Saborio, all the young dudes who are still hungry to make a name for themselves are much better values than the older dudes with notable names. Washed up stars will temporarily heighten attention to the league, but its the young and skilled guys who will slowly but surely raise the level of play.
