Man, have yall ever had a conversation about "One-and-Done / Athletes Skipping College" with people (women in particular) that have ZERO interest in sports?

:smh: Most frustrating thing ever

Guess I’m a bit confused by this response? Lol

You don’t think he would’ve gotten a bag at whatever school he would’ve attended? That would be an absolutely laughable idea, IMO.

I also said he made the right decision by going to Australia..

I took $0 to be hyperbole. The real heart of the question here is, do you think that his bag and overall experience at UCLA if he chose that path would have been comparable to the path he went down? Experience is subjective (traveling the world vs. smashing jersey chasers) so you can just focus on the objective part of the size of the bag to make the discussion completely objective.

May you please elaborate on this and their talking points?

I don’t really think there is a right answer. I have no problem if you want to go to Duke and play with your friends like Zion, or if you want to experience life on a different continent and absorb a little culture while playing against professionals.

All just seems like personal preference to me.

I know there are guys like ballinsam23 ballinsam23 that think differently though.

They just can't comprehend the idea of, "Maximizing your earning potential for as long as possible and as SOON as possible."

They don't think players should leave school before they get their degrees.
They don't think players should have the right to go right out of high school.

Then I say, "What about people in the military, how is that different?" : They don't have a response for that.

I bring up child actors, musicians, artists, tennis players, gymnasts and how nobody makes a fuss about those professions but when BOYS want to play pro basketball at the age of 18, it is an issue?

I concur about the right answer from an experience point. Is the bag the same, though? I don't have links/references for this but I would think top prospects make more overseas or is that false? There may not be a definitive way to know unless someone here has inside intel on how much these top college players are getting paid.

I need more info on why everyone is coming at ballinsam23 ballinsam23 's neck

Lol that comes from the draft thread and/or college thread.

While I’m sure you’ll make a bit more money in one year overseas, I do think (for now) that you may be better set up for immediate endorsement money once you finish that college season. There’s simply more familiarity with you and you are more marketable.

ballinsam23 ballinsam23 talking about missing “lifelong bonds” From going to college for 6 months, in the draft thread

Sadly he’ll never be a kid again. Even if I was broke af between 18-22 still can’t imagine missing out on that. Obviously millions changes things and he can be hitting ig models, but even Zion wanted to stay  Clearly the whole Duke brotherhood meant something.

Me personally I wouldn’t do it. Rather get my 1 year experience in college, if I know I’ll make my millions regardless, than spend it overseas.
My argument was I didnt like the move from a teenager standpoint. From seeing other top prospects contemplating staying another year and forming real lifelong bonds (see past Duke team for example) and being "alumni" in a way from top programs, I just think for a kid thats a little more valuable long term. Plus the NCAA exposure is huge.

Despite how trash that overseas league is, the competition is still much more advanced than the NCAA. I've been said regardless of where they go, they'll still end up in the same place.

Lamelo shocked me though, kids maturity and IQ on the court exponentially improved overtime.
These kids grow up way too fast these days. He’s gonna hate his life there.

From first class flights, being a celebrity on campus, unlimited poonchang, forming life long friends to charter buses and grown men offering u cigarettes after a game before they go to the local brothel or home to their wives. He ain’t making no real connections there.

I don’t know how poor his family is, but is that chump change combined with that ****ty experience for a 18 year old really worth it? I don’t think so.

The end result (NBA) will be the same regardless of the route he chooses. This will never be a trend.
Build connections, build life long friends, surrounded by basketball minds, surrounded by ex NBA players, coaches that know the NBA game, coaches who coached other top prospects, etc etc. On top of this, if you're a top prospect you'll be treated like a king while getting 30 min a game regardless if you suck or not.

Its Ws all around.

I still stand with my point. For every good overseas story there’s a bad one.

Lamelo an outlier though, good for him on how he handled this whole situation. He comes from money though, cost must’ve been cheap as hell.

it’s dudes that don’t come from money that have successfully made the transition.

and there really isn’t a normal. There are 4 year guys that flame out. 1 and dones that flame out. Guys that skip that flame out.

I get it. Me personally I would take the college route. Even if it’s for 1 year. On the court I get more exposure, shoe deals as soon as season is over, etc. Off the court the bonds these kids build even in 1 year is real. You see it all the time. Also being an alumni from a top program actually means something. A lot of them come back and work with the program in some capacity. The connections and network built is real if **** hits the fan.

That was always my major point. Regardless though, if you’re good, you wont miss on getting paid.

they done “built bonds”...long before they set foot on campus. They come up on the circuit.

You just need to watch All the smoke or knuckleheads to hear how fondly these guys speak on their aau experience/ coming up on the circuit.

6 months at school for a 1 & done ain’t going to change that :lol.

I listen to it all the time. That was when state and city championships mattered. There was actual rivalries. Now these dudes go away for school and play in 100 different high school tournaments that none of that **** matters as much.

That's a joke. Especially for one and dones.

All these dudes are already friends. Bonds are already formed.

Duke Brotherhood is just a dumb title.

Duke probably only had 7 or 8 black players throughout the 70's and 80's combined
