I think dude got it twisted when he said latinos dont prioritize education and care for it....Yeah, we might not care for it, but it's because the school system could give 2 #!%#% about us (and the same can be said for blacks and poor folk). Why buy into a system when we get placed disproportionately in remedial and Special ed classes. attend the worst funded schools, have the most underqualified teachers, attend schools that look more like prisons than places of education, encounter administration/teachers who would rather suspend us and kick us out than have faith in us, and buy into a program that historically has set us up for failure and srved as a pipeline for minimum paying jobs?
and this is coming from someone who has a BA, has teaching credentials, and works at a high school. The education system is a rigged game. yes, there are people who manage to succeed, but those folks are minimal and not enough to change the reality of what it has historically meant to be a person of color going thru the educational system....the odds are STACKED against you and it is set up this way for a reason....that reality hasn't changed one bit, an even sadder reality over 50 years since brown v. board of ed
