"Committing a crime" doesn't warrant jail. Folks commit crime every damn day and don't go to jail.

I don’t have the answer to that, but “wasting the time of police” is never a concern of mine, when it’s pretty common that they, the police, waste plenty of time when it comes to “protecting” and “serving” my/our community.

It shouldn't because it's not your job, but it should be a concern if the police are out running around chasing clues on false police reports instead of doing actual police work.
So when you call the police or need them, and they don't have enough officers to get to you quickly. It should be a concern.
