Thread about Jesus - Questions, Bible Verses and Prayer Requests

OP what's Jesus and the disciple Jon's real name. I ask because the letter J didn't exist when the bible was written
Shim'on = Simon (Hebrew origin).Y'hochanan = John (Hebrew origin).Mattithyahu = Matthew (Hebrew origin).Ya'aqov = James (Hebrew origin meaning Jacob).Bar-Tôlmay = Bartholomew (Aramaic, which is related to Hebrew).Judah = Jude / Saint Jude (not to be confused with Judas Iscariot, Hebrew origin).Yehuda = Judas Iscariot (Hebrew origin, Betrayed Yeshua/Yehosua the Messiah).Cephas / Kephas = Peter (Hebrew / Aramaic origin meaning "Rock").Tau'ma = Thomas (Aramaic origin).Andrew = Andrew (Greek origin. Is the brother of Cephas / Kephas).Phillip = Phillip (Greek origin).

The gospel has changed over time. how can you believe in something that has changed so many times. How can you believe in a book that some kings have put their foot in?
Your right, its called

catholicism and other

man made interpretations.

I trust in the Word because

I know God, and he speaks to me

through the Word.

Just lock this out of line going nowhere thread up
This has definitely run its course.
You 2 do realize that this bailout is exactly what par for the course is for believers, right?

And I'm not disrespecting you, because I'm not saying anything about you at all.

Causing discomfort? I'm sure I am, but causing discomfort is not the same as disrespect.

"You're an idiot. Stupid meanie face" = disrespect

"You think Cheerios are better than Frosted Flakes? Why?" does NOT = disrespect

Someone questioning what you refuse to question, or someone presenting questions that you don't have the answers to... that's not disrespect.

Now, someone questioning you when you didn't ask to be questioned, someone challenging your belief when you're just minding your own business, that's disrespect... but engaging in an online debate (or a debate in person) is hardly minding your own business. If you want to engage in a discussion of questions and freethinking and discuss logic, you're putting your faith out there to be questioned, since you know that's what people are doing.

And what typically happens is that believers enter these discussions deadset on answering the foolish questions of us non-believers, then bail when the heat is turned up to certain topics that they find uncomfortable, or when the conversation reaches a point they have no answer to.

You know whats kinda buggin me?

I have a few friends who are agnostic/atheist. We all get along & are cool.
But they don't laugh & mock believers like some of y'all do. I don't think the op came here to do the same to some of you

Maybe I'm reaching..

Its cool to have questions though. I appreciate the smart discussions going on in here.

Ska, do you HONESTLY think and believe that no one has had questions before? That faith hasn't been tested before?

So you're willing to agree your religion is interpretive
I'm not a Catholic

or a Seventh Day Adventist,

etc.

Those religions are all from man's

attempt to interpret the Bible

and they made their laws

to please themselves.

I am a Christian

I am ruled by God

and I know him on a one on one

account and he leads me

from the start of day

till the end of dreams.

God gives wisdom to those

born of the Spirit to understand his Word

so we aren't fooled by false prophets.

So riddle me this OP, you reference the Hebrew texts to derive the names. Following that notion, the Hebrews/Jews say that Jesus was a false prophet. Christianity is built on the premise of Christ being the redeemer. So .... How can you cite references to justify the name of Christ but then dismiss those references when they don't agree with your beliefs?

Furthermore, if a historical Jesus was to exists he would've been colored/melanated.
However, no people of color or melanin have offered any proof of a historical Jesus. But, they have offered a Christ story. And if you read the book of coming forth by the Egyptians you'll see the bible is pretty much a roman bootleg.

I'm well aware I'm probably not going to change your mind, but I guess my only suggestion would be to read the bible front to back and then compare it to other mythological stories. If any thing it gives you a firm understanding on the bible and how other people could've possibly interpreted the stories to produce their own accounts

I appreciate the answer. You have your faith, i have mine. Ultimately we should be making this place a better world.

Thank the Lord for sure.
I would've stopped halfway by now.
Lol ain't that the truth.

I sincerely hope some of you that have legit questions are really taking this in or at least appreciate that your questions are being answered.
Not ONE of my questions have been answered.

Not one.

- I asked about how prayer works for one person in one situation that he was happy about, but doesn't work for that same person other times, or doesn't work for other upstanding prayer warriors.

- response: "I don't know, man. I don't have it all figured out."

- Credentials were asked about; I presented mine.

- response: Nothing. No response. In fact, it was at this point that the comment was made that it's sad that an admin is being so disrespectful.

- I asked about the exact title of the thread: Jesus Christ. My first response in the thread was a question of why we can't go to Jesus' grave.

- Nothing. No response.

- I asked about the god concept as it pertains to children being blown up, and the whole dilemma of a supreme being having control but choosing not to intervene... or not having complete control... or not being as caring as he is given credit for.

- Nothing.

So no, it's not a matter of "You guys are getting responses. You just don't like them."

I mean, yes, some people are getting responses like "Just trust in the Lord. The Bible has everything you need. Turning away from his word is folly."

That's fine, but we're asking specific questions. So, like one of my specific questions: prayer being a selective solution. Do you think that there is there a specific verse in the bible that answers this question, SPECIFICALLY?

I see what I walked into.

First off yes the names were

converted to English, its

easier to say James than Ya'aqov

like most of the many other names.

Christians worship God in Spirit

and in Truth(Word of God).

Once one goes into race and

appearance then all you are

doing is worshipping an image

of God.

That is breaking the 2nd

Commandment.

He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. Isaiah 53:2

Is the only clear description

of Jesus's physical appearance in the Bible.

Truly repent and accept Jesus

and in Christ

and you will not be deceived.

Thing is, there are disrespectful believers. And yes, there are respectful, open-minded believers.

And there are disrespectful atheists/agnostics. And yes, there are respectful, open-minded atheists/agnostics.

So someone who is serious about legit discussion, what that person has to do is decide who they're in the discussion for: the legit debaters, or the goons.

If a person is here to convince goons, they'll only frustrate their self.

If a person is here to debate w/ the level-headed, but they keep responding to goons, they will frustrate their self.

Whether you are a believer or not, there are people on 'your side' who are misrepresenting you, and who are frustrating logical discussion. Ignore them, and make a conscious effort to debate with legit debaters.

I have no idea what you mean by 'my ppl', but if you're talking about Christians, my response is this: Just because you're not aware of it doesn't make it false.

Whenever you're ready to ask w/ an open mind how your religion does in fact denigrate women, we're ready to answer, bro.

For real.

If you meant something else by 'my ppl', then nevermind this response.

Respect to OP, he is going toe to toe with the whole team atheist camp on NT, thats bold in and of itself

I'm down with the Christ man, look at my Avy.

All I'm saying is this, so if things were translated to make it easier to understand in English, how do we know what else was changed? Just to make sure it was a smooth translation shouldn't we look at the people who put together the KJV ?

When you do that you'll see they're some of the most corrupt and filthy people to walk the planet. So who knows what else they changed and manipulated.

Either way the KJV has a corrupt source. Does it not say in the bible that no corrupt tree can produce a good fruit?

Thus how is the KJV a good fruit if produced from a bad tree?
