they seen a opportunity to hop on the sextape popularity that paris hilton kept getting and somehow Ryan seacrest helped get them a show on E! at the pinaccle of reality tv shows. Then america fell in love with the kardashians.
Yup. Back then celebs who had a sex tape or naked stuff leak would try and distance themselves from it and bury it. Kris on the other hand leveraged it to first get the reality TV show. People like watching train wrecks. But the thing is people started admiring them( for the fame and money not actual character) and they became idols. And once you reach that area you can sell people anything. Clothes, make up, magazine articles, phone apps etc.
Now granted you could say people like Taylor swift or katy perry are idols, but they go away for years at a time when they don't have an album out. The kardashians haven't gone anywhere for a decade plus
You see it a lot in Asia, idols that is. From actors to jpop and kpop groups etc. In the US, a bunch of celebrities value their privacy so it doesn't happen as much but the Kardashians don't care about that. We have Rob putting everything out on social media and garnering how much attention
It's their job. So nobody cares outside of just wanting a nut. When somebody who doesn't do porn, does porn it's a bigger deal. If miss teen USA does a flick it's going to get millions and millions of views, even if she's not that great. Kim was supposed to be a socialite best friend to Paris Hilton. It was "shocking" and a thing that was talked about. Then people watched the show to find out who she really was
