Was MJ an average athlete??

Kareem has 6 NBA MVPs and 2 Finals MVP, the NBA All time leading scorer, 19 All Star selections, 15 All NBA selections, 11 time All-NBA defensive, 4x blocks leader

That is arguably the best resume of any Basketball player ever
Yea pretty tough to beat this resume especially considering he did it in an era where many consider it to be the best era for big men.

How do u make the case Hakeem is better than Kareem tho?

How Hakeem played in relation to the competition he endured. Was Russel, Wilt and Kareem playing against players like Ewing, Shaq, Robinson, Barkley, Malone, Mourning, and Rodman type players?

Hakeem would wash player like Bob Petit, Jerry Lucas, Elvin Hayes. None of these dudes were close to 7'0 tall. Kareem was 7'2 playing against dude 3-4" shorter than him. On top of being extremely skilled, I would expect him to put up numbers like he did.

Weren't there a good bit of big men in the league in the late 70s and 80s? I know Kareem went up against 7 footer HOFer Robert Parish in 3 finals. Wilt 7+, Moses Malone 6'10 beast, Tree Rollins 7'1, Gilmore 7'2??, Ralph Sampson 7'4, Hakeem 6'10 freak, Liambeer 7 ft, McAdoo, Lanier 6'11, Eaton 7'4, Walton 6'11, Unseld, Thurmond 6'11, Dawkins 7 ft, Cowens, Reed, Ewing in his early days, there were a fair share of talented big men Kareem was playin as well. Tho undersized by 3-5 inches many of them like u said. At many of them being 6-9 or so. But many of those listed were 7 footers or near. Kareem is the tallest of all the greatest bigs correct. At being 7'2? Maybe an inch of so taller than Wilt and Shaq?

Just crazy that Kareem played 20 seasons. All being a vital piece. All through the 70s and 80s so he played against alot of people.

Yeah this is also stupid. Just flat awful.
How come Kobe couldn't get out of the first round without Shaq? Saying Bynum sucks now doesn't change the fact that he was a 20/10 7 footer with Kobe. Kobe needed not one but two 7 footers. Sure, it is a team game, but if Shaq wasn't on the three-peat Lakers, they weren't winning. Kobe was a sidekick. Anyone here feel comfortable putting Kobe as a surefire top 10 all time? How much better is Kobe than Paul Pierce or McGrady on the Magic?

I'm not "picking my favorite players" in saying Shaq and Hakeem were the best centers. I hated Shaq when I was a kid - I loved Webber's Kings. I just don't care for Wilt and Russell comparisons because they played 50 years ago. As for Kareem, I don't disagree, just I stand by my initial statement that Lakers Shaq was the most dominant force...even if it only lasted three years.

Sure, I guess I can't argue against Kareem. Or Wilt or Russell. Heck, or George Mikan. 11 rings means nothing to me. Horry and Fisher have a collection of rings.

My original point was that Shaq, in my opinion, was the most dominant player to play. And in the all-time draft, I'd take him 1, Jordan 2, Magic 3.

Here's some stupid graph I found... using Hollinger's PER. Again, I'm just talking about Shaq in his most dominant 3 years.

I'll agree to the fact that Kobe was the #2 option on Shaq's 3 peat Lakers. Kobe is on another level than McGrady and Paul Pierce tho.

Kobe over the course of his career? I'd say he's a shade better than Pierce's full body of work. Kobe in his best three or four years... was he really better than TMac in his best years?

Yea he really was. But to be fair Tmac had too many injuries and we never really got to see what he could have been. But Kobe was a MUCH better defender than McGrady. Kobe has been All defense 1st team 9 times in his career. McGrady never had 1. Kobe was also a much better all around shooter than McGrady.

McGrady's four year stretch on Orlando was ridiculous. Not sure about all around shooting (three point range?) but McGrady had to be just as prolific of a scorer. 32 ppg, 6 and 5...

Alright, I concede that Kobe and McGrady and Pierce aren't interchangeable overall. But I still maintain Shaq's Lakers could have subbed out Kobe for McGrady, Pierce, VC, heck Latrell Spreewell and could have won three rings.

Shaq's Finals stats:

38 ppg 17 rebs 2 dimes - 2000

33 ppg 16 rebs 5 dimes - 2001

36 ppg 12 rebs 4 dimes - 2002

Shaq needed Kobe?

actually the biggest difference in the shooting dept when comparing McGrady and Kobe is the FT%. Kobe ft% is 84%. McGrady's was 75%. McGrady and Kobe were actually the same as far as 3 point % goes both being at 33%. Kobe's fg% is 45% vs. TMac 43%. For reference Michael Jordan's FG% was 49.7% :smokin :smokin
