...however, the realist in me feels it will barely break even if at all 

. Lucas said himself the budget is 100 million, thats a pretty high number for a black movie thats expected to make a profit with two more projects behind it based off the sales of the first.
 
 
 
.....i do wonder though, those types, the ones that absolutely LOVE to stand on a soapbox denouncing Tyler Perry's work. are they going to support this movie? IMHO, unless you have a solution, or at the very least support an alternative, you forfeit your right to complain about anything. cant stand those types. i know quite a few individuals like this. Your title is a bit misleading. A prequel is a movie that supplements a previously completed one...
Red Tails isn't a prequel, its just the first of the planned trilogy.

I was reading some History of Star Wars book and was surprised to see that George has been wanting to do this movie since the early 90's.  I actually wanna see this movie

Lucas has been trying to make this film for years & he finally got it done. I'm looking forward to seeing it. The only thing I'm worried about is the dialog.If I'm not mistaken, Lucas wrote the script & he writes terrible dialog. I'm still seeing it though...  

I posted the trailer in a thread here I tried to get going to movie trailers & discussion back in October but the thread never really went anywhere so I stopped maintaining it.

...Tyler Perry IS behind it though. not directly, but George had to go to Perry and Oprah after he had problems with funding.

- i tried to find an article on the involvement and/or contribution of TP and that fat +$*%% but couldnt find anything. however, i did hear an interview with Lucas where he talked about running into financing issues with advertising and having to employ the help of TP and ole girl.....

- one thing thats scares me for the film is when i look at the first 5 movies for Tyler Perry, they grossed no more that 60 million. this films budget is 100 million, and if analysts are correct and white people wont go see an all black casted movie then......

I'm excited to see it because Lucas is doing it. I'm not surprised that Tyler Perry isn't involved, I didn't see any black dudes looking like the devil in the trailer.
But man, Terrance Howard and Cuba Gooding jr in one movie? Which light skinned cat will cry first. 

I'm excited to see the clothes and glad that no Denzel or Will got picked for any roles. Gives these new cats a chance to shine in not such a predictable black movie role.

I've always loved the hbo version of the tuskegee airmen with Laurence fishburne
So with a nicer budget this should be great and after reading that Lucas put
50 million plus of his own money, gotta watch.

....im my opinion i think you need a mix of both. George Lucas name alone wont get the number of seats filled with an all black cast. and Perry's name cant crossover to get the other side to support him.
^ its similar to my solution to our problems with black cinema and the Tyler Perry/Spike Lee beef. Tyler has the audience, Spike has the message. put the two together and you could have a winning combination. Spike should have approached Tyler better, it could have been a win for all of us.
 
 
.....i wish i could find something solid about the Perry/Oprah connection other than an official announcement of endorsement. like i said, Lucas said he went to them for help when he ran into issues, but he didnt say what the extent of their help was.

Cool site man - did you have to pay for all the images that you're using?
