Sure it needs work, did I say it's perfect? No. Of course the insurance system needs revision. Deaf people are able to hear their voices for the 1st time because of health advances. How is that not something to be proud of? Jesus.

I didn't realize every channel was MTV.

Just 60 years ago, we had segregated bathrooms and water fountains. Very diverse huh.

america is the world leader in technology and entertainment, home of the most diverse culture in the world and provides some of the best education and healthcare in the world (for those who have earned it/can afford it) not sure what you're talking about

Why do people always respond with move to another country when anyone says anything anti-american. It's almost as if you've been brainwashed to think that exact way. I love America, I just wish we could improve and stop so many of our backwards practices. Obviously it's better to live as a middle class American than in a 3rd world country. I've lived in several. That's beyond the point. 

You should answer your own question then and write why you're proud to be an American.

No country is perfect, they all have their faults. My parents are immigrants and were able to move here and make nice lives for themselves.

my grandpa broke his hip earlier this year and because of the free canadian healthcare system he had to wait a week before getting an operation.

if he would have been in the US he would have gotten that operation faster. i get that its expensive but depending on your situation sometimes cheaper/free is not always better

My friend's cousin is from Canada and her daughter needed to have an operation. She didn't want to have it in Canada because she wanted to look for a better doctor in America. Surprised me when I heard. I guess she was limited into which doctors she could go to.

the same people who are complaining we aren't number 1 in healthcare, education, etc. are the by product of AMERICA itself because we strive to be number 1 and they complain because america in reality isn't number 1 in everything. the point is that we DO have it. We DO have healthcare, we DO have education, etc. some countries don't have that stuff! we have OPTIONS. it may be skewed to only serve the upper class but its THERE.

It's weird for me.  I'm a Proud NYer but an apathetic American.
I've also noticed I don't get a lot of cultural references because I'm more surrounded by my culture than mainstream American culture.
I've noticed this is true for my Chinese-American and Indian-American friends as well.

I'm the same way. Proud Bay Area native, but couldn't care less about the US other than NYC and Vegas (and sports teams) I don't like mainstream American culture AT ALL but I love living around all sorts of different ethnic groups here in the Bay. If I didn't live in such a diverse area I wouldve moved a long time ago. Technically I'm white but I don't relate to 98% of white people in the US. Too sheltered, too uncultured, etc.
