Just got back from the game. Laker fans were confused on who to cheer for haha. McRoberts? Murphy? So quiet the whole game since their lord and savior KB didn't play. I REALLY wanted him to play. I would've accept a L. Not really because of ping pong balls, but at least I'd have motivation to heckle back and forth with Laker fans.

Tyreke has been showing that he still has potential. He shouldn't be playing the 3 spot, 2 is where he's most effective. I'm gonna be really upset if he gets traded.

Bring IT off the bench, let Reke get his at the 1, then trade him before the trade deadline for an elite SF

And yes, Make room for Thornton on the bench. Dude could be instant offense like a Jason Terry.

The Maloof brothers no longer are majority owners of the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, but George Maloof appears to be taking a gamble of sorts with the city of Sacramento when it comes to the family's ownership of the NBA Sacramento Kings.




Informal meetings Thursday and Friday with Sacramento Mayor Johnson produced little movement on a plan to finance a $391 million downtown entertainment complex, including a new arena for the Kings. But Maloof is more optimistic than Johnson, who cited "irreconcilable" differences.

"The way I look at negotiations is it can always come back. You never say never. These things are never final. Trust me," George Maloof told USA TODAY Sports. "I've been around enough negotiating over the last 30 years of my life to know that deals die and they come back. Somebody sleeps on it, they take a break and they say, 'You know what, maybe we consider this. … '

"It's a way of coming back as long as people don't give up. And I never give up. We'll never give up."

Commissioner David Stern, in a statement to USA TODAY Sports on Friday, sided with Johnson: "We are disappointed for the city, its businesses and the supportive fans of the Kings, as well as team ownership, that this transaction, which we thought was fair, has been abandoned. The Kings had the right to do that, as well as the right to continue at Power Balance Arena."

Stern went a step further in a phone interview with the Sacramento Bee: "We had come up with a scenario where the Kings could move into the building without putting a dollar of cash down. We were not attempting to induce them to make a deal that would be unprofitable for them."

The three major sticking points that still prevented a deal, about $230 million to have been funded through a parking lease issued by the city to a private vendor:

•Collateral: The Maloofs, including brothers Joe and Gavin, have refused to put up any in the deal. Johnson refuses to do a deal without it.

•Pre-development fees: The Maloofs will not contribute money on the front end to get the project underway, such as share in paying for environmental studies and architecture work, which constitutes less than 1% of the total.

•Length of the lease: The city wants it for 30 years. The Maloofs insist on 15 years.

Instead of hammering away at talks — much like what happened during collective bargaining negotiations last year between NBA owners and the players union, when there was an impasse before a deal materialized — Maloof thinks it is best to step away and focus on team operations.

The Kings haven't qualified for the playoffs for six consecutive seasons. They fired coachPaul Westphal early in the year and finished with the second-worst record in the Western Conference (22-44) under Keith Smart.

"I don't think we're in dire straits with Power Balance, although we'd like to have a new arena. It's still a viable place to play," said Maloof, who now maintains upgrading the venue is a viable option after previously suggesting it was not. "Our fans still enjoy going there. … We're just focused on trying to put the best team on the floor. At a different time, where economically it might make more sense for everyone, particularly the city."

According to Maloof, four cities have called to show interest in the Kings relocating. He wouldn't reveal the suitors, but Seattle and Anaheim are strong candidates. Kansas City, Mo., where the Kings relocated from in 1985, like Anaheim, already has a facility for a team.

"We're not looking at anything. We really aren't. The fans had shown up even during the last three weeks. We averaged 17,000 fans a game over the last four or five home games. I think they care more about the team being in Sacramento than fighting over an arena right now," Maloof said. "We have a certain affection for the city of Sacramento and we're going to do the best we can to keep trying.

"We don't have any intention of trying to go anywhere else, although we've received a lot of calls. Just haven't returned them."

Although Maloof said he didn't want to negotiate with Johnson after the mayor called the brothers dishonest, he has softened his stance. The recent talks represented the first time the sides were in a room without the NBA serving as third-party negotiator.

"If you don't accept the numbers then the discussions aren't going to go much further," Johnson said Friday, reiterating that he'll have a Plan B for the city by May 8 that likely will be a scaled down version of his plan without the Kings as the anchor tenant. "I'm disappointed for Sacramento."

Maloof wasn't thrilled with Johnson's remarks, which implied their finances were the issue and not the plan. The Bee, citing a person familiar with the team's situation, said the Kings are carrying about $205 million of debt, including a city loan of about $65 million.

In a separate story, The Bee also reported the region's office vacancy rate in the 2012 first quarter was an all-time high of 23.74% and that a "Draconian" budget proposal by City Manager John Shirey calls for laying off 62 firefighters and 34 police officers to help close a $15.7 million deficit for the fiscal year that begins July 1.

Maloof points to such financial woes as part of his reason for his reluctance to make a deal with the city now. He would rather hold out for something better, preferably when the overall economic outlook improves.

That's his gamble.

"We had a pact that we wouldn't talk in the public. I kept the pact. He's the mayor, he has to do certain things with the public, I understand that. He kind of said a couple of things (Friday) that maybe he shouldn't have said," Maloof said. "But I was comfortable with him in these talks.

"We'll see how these next couple days goes. I hope he doesn't try to throw the blame back on us, which again wouldn't be very cool. You never know."

Any predictions one what will happen during the lottery till the draft??? What pick will we have? What stupid trades will we pull off???
 
We won the coin toss against NG so we're fifth in the lottery. I say we get 2nd pick and draft Gilchrist. That's how I would want it to play out.

Knowing our luck I guess we end up 6-8, lol.
