This type of basketball analyst is wavycrocket wavycrocket . THIS is what I’m talking about.

You talk about nuance...but this isn’t it. You know the conversation around Steph are an outlier in how we discuss great players. The slander culture has gone od for sure. Not trying to waste more time in this thread...because it will always be derailed. And strawmen will be brought to make arguments that aren’t even there. Then some out of context receipts. Some LOL’s. And people continue just being misinformed and going with their confirmation bias. Nothing of substance. At all. The general takes on his weakness or failures are terrible...in comparisons to his success. Always a caveat. GOAT shooter....but, is a pejorative for a player of his caliber. That’s what you will hear.

The discussions in this thread (and social media, real life in general when it comes to Steph) are like going back n forth with Glenn Greenwald.

Thats not to say he isn’t a fan favorite as an athlete. He is. But I still stand on how who HE is, how he plays, who he stopped from winning and what he represents...amongst other factors contribute to why there is so much skeptism Of his true greatness as an all time great (something we agree on)....and where he was during his peak (one of the best ever). And he’s as accomplished as they come.

It’s clear as hell...there is no way to even get people to try to understand this.

Steph Curry is the most overrated PG in the history of the NBA

Lebbie had a squad where Donneyell Marshall and a guy named Boobie Gibson were key contributors. This Dubz squad is better than that. Wiggins would be the clear number 2 on that squad

I was there. He did his thing against the pistons. Was amazing. It can't be understated that they aged out as well though. They were 34ish around that time.

He did go to the finals 8 straight years. Says more for his athleticism and durability than anything. He faced the same bum *** teams for yrs. Demar and lowry could've played Bron 1000 times, they would've never won.

But look at the actual history tho..11-14 was all heat. That's 4. Then 15-17 with kyrie and love. Sure love missed the playoffs in 15 with his shoulder, but still had kyrie til game 1 of the finals. He only drug non all nba guys in 07 and 18. All while in the weak *** east.

First year in the west, gets cooked and misses in completely. Can blame an injury if you want, but he came back 2.5 months before the season ended, so idk. Then he got another all worldly player and it's cash rules everything around me again.

IMO - it’s a bit unfair to compare the 2007 Eastern Conference to the 2021 Western Conference.

Outside of Bron, I don’t think Giannis or James have had a peak like Steph did in 2016. And that isn’t to diminish what they’ve done in the least.

I think that’s a fair point, but IMO that’s where the subjective nature of it comes in. I think the world of Steph as a player and that year was absolutely phenomenal, but I think his role and the role his teammates play is understated. I don’t think he reaches the peak of 2016 without the team support. Dame said as much. Steph had the luxury of quality talent around him. To his credit, he maximized it and went supernova in 2016, but they still lost to Bron in the finals. When people tout his otherworldly efficiency, I don’t think it’s an unfair criticism to say that some of that is attributable to his team.

I’m not Freeze. Try again. But it’s truth to what he said 🤷🏾‍♂️😏. Doesn’t detract from LeBron’s accomplishments when it counts. But the blemishes are the blemishes, when you’re wanting to be considered the GOAT. I’m simply stating Steph belongs in the top 10-20 convo of all time. The 2nd best PG of all time, and one of the best primes ever. No laughing emojis or somebody else’s receipts are going to counter that doggy :lol. But cool.

Back to BronTalk (because it always goes back there 🙄). That’s all basketball related. LeBron is still one of the greatest players of all time, who benefited from a historically weak East and handpicked his all stars for a decade. Then went west, struggled. Til he got another top 5 player....who actually tanked his season to get to LA...but that’s another story. This is true.

LeBron is still one of the most purely talented basketball players I’ve ever seen...and his longevity, counting stats are remarkable. He’s top 5. I’ve said this like a billion times. And most people believe this.

The difference is, I’m never “discrediting” his talent or who he is as a basketball player.

People do that with Steph Curry. And bend and shift narratives at their convieneice with him. And flat out lie. It is not the same thing. It’s different. But I already know...exactly how this convo will go and what the responses will be.

Let’s just make a thread! And start the real convo. Or y’all going to duck it DCAllAfrican DCAllAfrican

I mean, Giannis just went for 30/14/6 on 55% shooting in 30 min a night AND won defensive player of the year.

He’s obviously had his issues with the playoffs, but I’m assuming you’re just talking about the regular season.

That’s definitely comparable.

All of you are saying Steph was was the best in 2016 the year Lebron dominated him in the Finals.

So was he really even the best?

Simmons my guy but mad disingenuous to say he locked up Love when 1. Love got hurt and 2. Sexton was cooking him

He shooting yet?

Yea, I’m purely talking about regular season though. It’s not like Giannis and Harden paired their peak regular seasons with postseasons that matched. Steph has the Finals blemish and deserves every bit of blame for it, but he was ridiculous the rest of those playoffs too. His usage was also 30+% that year. Regardless of having those other guys, he was the system. He was the engine that made that whole thing go. How many games does that team win without Steph? Maybe mid-40s? It’s hard for me to knock him down for the supporting cast there because he definitely elevated each of those guys too.
