wow, Cotto vs. Pacman would be my 2 favorite fighters against each other, but imo Cotto would DESTROY Pacquiao with his left hand...

I can see him just jabbing the hell out of Pacquiao and then throwing a few hooks later on to end the fight, not a smart matchup...actually, I don't seePacquiao being able to handle Mosley's power either...

Pacquiao is not a welterweight...and the only reason I think he can matchup with Floyd is because Floyd has those hand problems and isn't a 1-punch KO typeof fighter

Maybe so....but arguable.

I think Pac will not fight neither...if they dont drop in weight. Both won't. Shane is the only one that I think would consider dropping to 144 or 145.

It's going to be Pac/PBF. As long as PBF, handles buisness.
Jacobs, Lara back in action June 26
Middleweight standout Daniel Jacobs and 154-pound former amateur star Erislandy Lara will co-headline an ESPN2-televised card from the Desert Diamond Casino in Tucson, Arizona on June 26, the Tohono O'odham Nation gaming resort announced on Tuesday.

Jacobs (16-0, 14 knockouts) and Lara (5-0, 3 KOs) are two of the busiest prospects in the sport. The Golden Boy Promotions card will be the fourth bout for Brooklyn's Jacobs this year; it will be the fifth bout for Cuba's Lara.

Their opponents and other fighters on the card have yet to be announced.
These dudes puttin in work

Maybe hell has actually frozen over. Perhaps, if you look out the window, you'll see pigs flying. My reasoning: I actually agree with something the WBC has done. Better print out this blog post as proof, because it doesn't happen often.
The WBC finally stripped Vernon Forrest of its junior middleweight title last week for his failure to make a long-overdue defense against deserving interim titlist Sergio Martinez. It was the right move. Forrest tried to avoid the fight multiple times when Martinez was ready, willing and able.

Forrest and Martinez had agreed to terms for an Aug. 1 bout on Showtime, but I never really believed it would happen. Of course, Forrest eventually pulled out. He claimed the same rib injury that also prevented an April tune-up fight would prevent him from facing Martinez in August. I'm not saying Forrest isn't legitimately injured. But if he's hurt, it couldn't have happened at a better time, because he simply never wanted to tangle with Martinez. Too little reward for too much risk, and at this late stage of his career Forrest knows a loss spells the end for him in terms of big paydays.

But you didn't think I would agree entirely with the WBC, did you? In stripping Forrest of the belt, it also gave him the silly and ludicrous title of "ambassador of peace and good will in the world through sports." Huh? Whatever. Maybe someday the WBC will appoint an "interim ambassador emeritus of peace and good will in the world through sports in recess." In giving Forrest the pointless title, it also gave him the opportunity to face Martinez as soon as he is able to fight, with the stipulation that Forrest would be entitled to 55 percent of the money in the event of a purse bid. The financial split should favor Martinez, not Forrest. Even when the WBC does something right, it shoots itself in the foot. Guess it doesn't really matter. We all know Forrest isn't ever going to fight Martinez.

• Deepest condolences to Mike Tyson and his family regarding the death of his 4-year-old daughter, Exodus. Of all the things Tyson has been through in his roller coaster of a life, this figures to be the toughest thing he will ever endure. Hang in there, Mike.

• Unless Kelly Pavlik or Arthur Abraham suddenly wants to fight Paul Williams, I'd love to see Williams take on Martinez. If that fight happens, the winner would be, in my opinion, the best junior middleweight in the world.

• If Alfredo Angulo knocks out Kermit Cintron on HBO Saturday night, I hope the referee will count it this time -- unlike referee Frank Santore Jr., who brutally blew the KO call when Martinez drilled Cintron in February.

• I don't know about you, but I'd actually be willing to pay to watch my ESPN pal Brian Kenny interview Floyd Mayweather Jr. about boxing for an hour. Their interview/debate on SportsCenter last week was as good as it gets. I just needed more than the 13 minutes it lasted.

• So, Edwin Valero turned down $200,000 to fight a stiff of his choice on Top Rank's July 25 pay-per-view card because it wasn't enough money and he wants only a big fight. Allow me to be the first to congratulate Valero on sealing valedictorian honors at the Winky Wright School of Boxing Business.

• Promoter Gary Shaw told me the other day that the WBO decided against sanctioning a fight between junior welterweight titlist Timothy Bradley and Joan Guzman, which would have taken place Aug. 1 on Showtime. I'm not entirely sure whom Bradley will fight next, but I wouldn't mind seeing him against Nate Campbell. I'm sure it would be a better fight than Bradley against Guzman.

• Although they were clearly forced into it because there's nowhere else to go, I was happy to hear that Chad Dawson and promoter Shaw are negotiating a rematch with Glen Johnson, with whom Dawson has unfinished business. And if the fight does come off, let's give HBO some credit for exerting enough pressure to get it done.

• Example No. 14,367 why boxing ain't dead, no matter what so many clueless general sports columnists and commentators seem to think: Top Rank announced that it already has sold more than 12,000 tickets to the June 13 welterweight title bout between Miguel Cotto and Joshua Clottey at Madison Square Garden. I'm really looking forward to the fight. By the time fight night arrives, there will be way more than 12,000 on hand. Madison Square Garden is going to rock.

• Top Rank's Bob Arum loves to blow smoke up everyone's rear end about putting on a fight at a major outdoor stadium and about doing a big fight in Macau. He talks about both seemingly all the time, and neither ever happens -- the latest example being a proposed Aug. 22 card headlined by Nonito Donaire at AT&T Park in San Francisco. Imagine how excited Arum would be by the prospect of a fight at a massive stadium in Macau?

• As is a common occurrence every few months, promoter Mike Acri announces a Paul Spadafora comeback fight against an opponent to be announced. Equally common is the follow-up announcement I expect any day now -- that the fight has been called off.

• So which is more common: The announcement of a Spadafora fight that doesn't happen or an Arum-proposed stadium bout or Macau event that never materializes? Publicist Fred Sternburg, who handles a lot of PR for Top Rank events and Acri, recently suggested that the next announcement might be that Spadafora is going to fight at a stadium in Macau.

• I was encouraged by the news that heavyweight contender Cris Arreola has hired strength and conditioning coach Darryl Hudson to help him get into shape. I just hope the move works out better than James Toney's hiring of Billy Blanks a few years ago.

• Whether 2008 U.S. Olympic heavyweight bronze medalist Deontay Wilder ever becomes a champion or a star remains to be seen. But even if he doesn't, he already has been an asset to boxing. Thanks to Wilder's lobbying efforts on behalf of a bill to establish a boxing commission in his home state of Alabama, Gov. Bill Riley signed into law the Alabama Boxing Act on May 20, which will establish the body to oversee professional bouts in the state. Now Wilder will be able to fight there. Good for him.

• Joining Mikkel Kessler on the increasingly crowded milk carton: Daniel Santos, David Tua and Jorge Linares.

• I'm not going to sit here and advocate for the fight, but I will say this: As long as Roy Jones Jr. and Jeff Lacy are going to keep fighting, I have no problem with them doing it against each other. It's a hell of a lot more interesting than seeing Jones smash a faded Omar Sheika or Lacy engage in a life-and-death struggle with Otis Griffin. That said, I think the fight should come with a stipulation that the loser must retire.

James Kirkland still is behind bars, and I'm still totally bummed about him potentially throwing away a promising career.

Billy Graham, former trainer for Ricky Hatton, is suing him for more than $1 million, claiming he's owed unpaid training fees. Graham trained Hatton for his whole career, until he was fired following Hatton's fight with Juan Lazcano in May 2008. Seems to me the court fight between them is going to be a whole lot more competitive than Hatton's fight earlier this month against Manny Pacquiao.

DVD pick of the week: If Hatton getting smoked in two rounds by Pacquiao was the worst performance of his career, what was his best? I watched it when I dipped into the archive and went back to June 4, 2005 and the MEN Arena in Manchester, England. That's when and where Hatton -- a hungry, rising star -- met Kostya Tszyu, the well-respected future Hall of Famer and long-reigning junior welterweight champion. Hatton, with the hometown crowd on his side in the middle of the night (to accommodate Showtime's live TV coverage in the U.S.), bullied and battered Tszyu until he quit on his stool after the 11th round. It was the coronation of a new 140-pound king in Hatton, who reigned until Pacquiao destroyed him. Tszyu, while never officially announcing his retirement, hasn't fought since

By Mark Vester

Former undisputed lightweight champion Nate Campbell sat down with BoxingScene.com to discuss the current status of his promotional tug of war with formerpromoter Don King, his thoughts on trainer John David Jackson stating that Manny Pacquiao was avoiding African American fighters, a possible fight with WBOjunior welterweight champion Timothy Bradley and more.

BoxingScene.com: What's going on Champ?

Nate: I'm good Mark, I'm good. Just chilling out spending some time with my wife and kids, waiting on this nonsense with King to be over with.

BoxingScene.com: How's that moving along?

Nate: It's going good. The process is slow, but that's exactly what King wants. He thinks he can drag this out and starve me to where I have to re-signwith him or something in order to eat, but I'm eating just fine, and he's 0-4 so far on motions in my case, and about to be 0-5 come Wednesday. The endis in sight brother.

BoxingScene.com: What did you think of the Pacquiao-Hatton fight?

Nate: Good stuff. I was pulling for Hatton, because I know Manny's people would never put him in with me. So I was pulling for Hatton thinking maybe thatwas a fight we could get down the road. But Manny caught him with a beautiful shot, and Ricky was wide open for it. Game over.

BoxingScene.com: Why do you think you could never get a fight with Manny?

Nate: Because the system these days is all decided on box office ratings. If you cant bring x amount of pay-per-view buys, then you aint getting a fight withany of the top guys no matter what. It's that simple. It no longer about who is a good fighter, or who beat who, or who deserves a shot, its only aboutmoney, and who your promoter is. Here's an example; Diaz was considered the end all and be all of the lightweight division before I fought him, right?. SoI beat his +#!, and then suddenly he becomes "exposed" or "overrated," right? But then wait a minute. So then Marquez, who I have no beefwith, beats a Casamayor that wouldn't fight me, and then he beats Diaz, who I had already ruined, and that makes him pound for pound top 3? C'monbrother. How is a fighter like me ever supposed to get the ratings, or pay-per-view buys, or whatever, if none of these top guys will ever fight me?

I had 3 belts at 135 and couldn't buy a fight. All I could get was mandatories man. And people complain about the sanctioning bodies and stuff, but intruth if it wasn't for the IBF's 1 rating, I would have never gotten the Diaz fight in the first place. The only reason they fought me was because they%*@$%++ had to. There's so many double standards it aint even funny. Here's another one. Floyd beats Oscar and Hatton, and everyone says he's"cherry-picking". Manny then beats the SAME TWO CATS and he's considered an all-time great? C'mon man. It seems that no matter what you do,you can't win. And it aint like I'm on Floyd's sack or anything, cause even he turned me down for a fight like 6 years ago back in his so-called"slave wages" days.

BoxingScene.com: Recently your trainer John David Jackson took some heat for a comment about Manny Pacquiao not fighting black fighters. What's your takeon that situation?

Nate: See, here's the thing Mark. John's statement was taken out of context. He wasn't saying Manny is a racist or anything like that, he justpointed out a simple fact. Manny does not fight black fighters. But people jump up and say "He fought Ledwaba, he fought Ledwaba", and that'sgreat. That was a nice win for him. But that was 8 YEARS AGO man. And Ledwaba was more of a traditional African fighter than an American black fighter. Andthere is a difference. Saying there is no difference in the styles is like comparing Floyd Mayweather to Ben Tackie. It's a totally different style. MostAmerican black fighters in the lower weight divisions use movement, footwork, and angles, and Manny has a lot of trouble with slick boxers like that. Most ofthe guys he fought in the last 6 or 7 years are straight forward, plodding, come right at you type fighters. And the one fighter who did actually use a littlebit of movement and angles on him was Marquez, who Manny went life and death with twice, and arguably lost. But it wasn't a racist comment by JD - it'sjust a fact.

Manny's people don't want to put him in with anyone the least bit slick. Call it what you want. It's smart matchmaking on their part, because ifthey ever let him fight someone like me, he'll get his +#! laid flat. And it aint that Manny is scared, or any stupid @$+*#*+! like that - its that hispeople will maneuver him around anyone slick.

BoxingScene.com: So when can we expect to see you back in the ring?

Nate: Soon brother. Like I said there is a court motion next week, which my attorneys tell me is a slam-dunk, and then we can move for a court order that wouldprevent anyone from getting sued for working with me. And that's the big obstacle right now, because nobody wants to do anything with me because theydon't want the hassle of a possible lawsuit with Don, even though Don cant win it. And I understand that. Who wants that drama in their life? So as soon aswe get that court order, I'm ready to get back in the ring immediately, against anyone at 140.

BoxingScene.com: So you are definitely staying at 140 now?

Nate: Yep. I am now a full fledged junior welterweight. Although lately it seems weight divisions don't matter much anymore. Nobody cleans out theirdivisions, and everyone seems to want to fight at these @$+*#*+! made-up weights. I am a junior welterweight, and look forward to the opportunity to clean out140.

BoxingScene.com: I had also heard about talks with Timothy Bradley. Any truth to that rumor?

Nate: Well, Terry did talk to Gary Shaw about it but of course Gary would need options on me, and I don't blame him for wanting them, but until this legal$#+@ is wrapped up I cant give anyone options right now. But I wouldn't do an options deal anyways, because an options deal just means you are giving apromoter your rights for [an] x number of fights, but not getting a signing bonus or anything in return.

I would be limiting my opportunities and leaving money on the ground if I did that. And its no big secret that me and Terry have had conversations with GBPabout the possibilities of working together once this legal $#+@ is over, and me owing options to someone else would kill that deal, so that's no good. ButI would love to fight Timmy Bradley. We can do that fight no problem. I just cant do it with options. So Don is trying to work something out with Gary to dothe fight. And I don't have no problem with Don being involved in it with Gary if it gets the fight made. I don't give a $#+@ who's logo is on theposter.

BoxingScene.com: Well, you could always make a fight with Joan Guzman, couldn't you?

Nate: Oh, you got jokes tonight I see. That's pretty funny my man. Look, until they pay me the $400k they owe me, I aint even hearing his name. Thatone's personal. But if they want to pay me what they owe, then he can get it. I'd be happy to stomp his +#!.

BoxingScene.com: Ok, thanks for your time Champ.

Nate: Anytime Mark, always a pleasure.

Manny Pacquiao Appears To Have No Interest in Mosley
By Ronnie Nathanielsz

Filipino boxing hero Manny Pacquiao is reportedly "not interested" in fighting Miguel Cotto or Shane Mosley and has set his sights on the winner ofthe Floyd Mayweather Jr - Juan Manuel Marquez showdown on July 18.

Reporters in Bangkok informed us that Pacquiao told them he was preparing for a fight on October 17 and that the opponent could be either Mayweather whom hepicked to beat Marquez or Marquez should the Mexican win.

Although Cotto's name has surfaced regularly, Team Pacquiao insiders say the boxing hero will wait until after the July 18 fight to make a decision. Cottoin the meantime also has to get by Joshua Clottey in a title fight at Madison Square Garden on June 13.

Pacquiao reportedly is also not keen on fighting at Madison Square Garden and would rather fight in Las Vegas .

Bangkok Post's veteran journalist Edward Thangarajah told us that Pacquiao who was given a hero's welcome in his whirlwind one-day visit to Bangkok wasalso greeted by Thailand's Tourism and Sports Minister Chumpol Silpa-archa and scores of media people and boxing fans during a press conference at theIntercontinental Hotel where he was a presenter of San Miguel Beer.

Pacquiao spent almost one hour signing autographs and posing for photos with Thai fans.

Pacquiao told them that Thai boxers are as talented as their Filipino counterparts and said he planned to recruit Thai boxers to join his MP Promotions whichcurrently handles some talented Filipino fighters who get the breaks in the US because of Pacquiao.

Thai reporters teased Pacquiao by requesting him to sing while he had a hearty laugh when asked whether he could lend the Thai government some money to tideover its budgetary problems.

Pacquiao reportedly made a lasting impression on the Thai media who said he was "cheerful and smiling throughout" the press conference.

In an airport conversation with us, Pacquiao said he was grateful to the Thai Prime Minister and the other officials in Thailand as well as the media "fora great reception."
