And I'm guessing the Taylor Mays comment was too because dude is incredibily overrated. He's not even on the same planet as Eric Berry.
All the damn USC games I watched this year I can't remember his name being called once. Dude gets ghost in any big game. Had 3 INT's frosh year, 1 in '07, and ZERO this past season. With all of 38 tackles. %++@$.
Center Field shout = More picks though, right?Originally Posted by after h0urs
Kid is overrated, but to his defense, he's played center field all season long. Next season he'll play closer to the line.
not necessarily, just look at Taylor MaysOriginally Posted by dreClark
Prep school/JUCO detour will be required for some
MORE: Counting Down to Signing Day | Announcement Watch | Expert Commit Predictions
There will be some prospects in the class of 2009 who do not meet the initial academic eligibility requirements and therefore have to attend a prep school or junior college.
Despite potential academic issues, players still are highly recruited for several reasons. First, there's always a chance a recruit will qualify. Second, if a recruit doesn't qualify, a school can sign him and place him in a prep school or junior college and get him a year or two later; more times than not in that scenario, the player will re-sign with the same school.
Tyrik Rollison's career at Auburn might have to wait.
Perhaps the biggest "name" recruit this season on the potential academic bubble is Valdosta (Ga.) Lowndes cornerback Greg Reid, who has narrowed his college choices to Florida State, Alabama and Georgia. He is expected to announce Tuesday.
Another is running back Melvin Richardson from Long Beach (Calif.) Poly, whose recruitment has been rather light because of his academic situation. He is likely to go to a junior college.
Sulphur Springs (Texas) High star Tyrik Rollison, an Auburn commitment, could turn into the top dual-threat quarterback from the 2009 class. He has all the physical ability in the world, but he supposedly has no chance to qualify. Auburn took a chance, and the gamble could pay off, whether it's this season or in the near future.
Here's a list of some potential players from the class of 2009 who could end up at either prep school or junior college:
Prep school/junior college candidates Player Position Commitment High school Oday Aboushi OT Virginia Brooklyn (N.Y.) Xaverian Jason Ankrah DE Nebraska Gaithersburg (Md.) Quince Orchard Adaris Bellamy RB USF Dunedin (Fla.) High Jaamal Berry RB Ohio State Miami Palmetto Michael Bowman WR Alabama Rossville (Ga.) Ridgeland Vontaze Burfict LB USC Corona (Calif.) So, does he have bad grades as well? Or is it just the fact that he hasn't taken the test?Originally Posted by ddot7
Clemson had a kid, Eric Fields, out of Georgia who was at one time a 4 star LB...can't even take official visits because he hasn't even taken the SAT or ACT yet. Supposed to be a player but will end up going JUCO, who knows if he'll ever get to the point of being able to qualify for a D1-A school, outside of like Louisville or something.
Experience, Rocky Top impress Charles
Talk about it in The Tribal Council
Orson Charles wasn't quite sure what to expect with his weekend visit to the University of Tennessee.
Suffice it to say, the sublimely talented four-star prospect from Tampa's Plant High School was not disappointed.
"I enjoyed everything they said. At first, I wasn't real sure and thought I was just going to go up there and see what they said," said the personable Charles, a prep All-American with a recruiting list of college football bluebloods. "But I enjoyed talking to the coaches and how the players are, they want it done and have a winning attitude. That's something I'm really enjoying right now."
Though the 6-foot-3-inch, 230-pounder with 4.55 speed in the 40-yard dash is the No. 7 receiver nationally according to Rivals.com, Charles boasts the strength and versatility to become an opposing team's matchup nightmare at tight end. Doing just that, with the chance to get on the field early, were things Tennessee coaches and players talked to Charles about this weekend.
Orson Charles says he likely will visit USC and then decide on a college sometime in February.
"They talked to me about some very early playing time. Brandon Warren, the transfer from Florida State, he wants to play receiver and I got to talk to them about the whole situation," Charles said. "(It's) very, very good. I'm liking what I'm hearing."
Charles, however, won't join the majority of prep football's stars on Wednesday in inking with his college choice. Because his Plant team captured a state championship in mid-December, his visiting options weren't as flexible as Charles had wished. So he'll take at least one more visit and likely decide later in February.
"I think Feb. 20 I might take a trip to USC (Southern Cal), and then after that, I'm going to decide where I'm going to go," said Charles, hosted this weekend by Eric Berry. "I haven't narrowed it down to three. I'm waiting till I take my last one (visit), and then I'll narrow it down to three."
In the meantime, Charles left Knoxville with a great impression from his Rocky Top visit - particularly Saturday's basketball game and the atmosphere inside Thompson-Boling Arena.
"Wheww, boy that basketball game was nothing to play with," he said. "Everybody was there, there were no seats. And then I just imagined a football game and was like, 'Wow, that's the kind of atmosphere I would like to be in.' I enjoyed that."
Charles is the No. 62 player nationally according to Rivals.com and one of the top 15 players in the state of Florida.

Seriously though, I watched the highlight tape you posted and I thought, "DAMN, that's one of the best HS vids I've ever seen for a QB." Then I looked at the title and saw that was all only from his SOPHOMORE YEAR alone
Hopefully he grows a couple inches, but either way I will crap my pants if we actually get this kid, he looks ridiculous.
