...next year honestly looks WIDE OPEN.

Alabama's ground game is going to be unfair though.

(how many lineman do they got returning?)

And can someone PLEASE answer this question:

Supposedly McElroy hasn't lost a football game since 8th grade.
roll.gif

Who the hell did he have playing around him in HS?!/or was he really playing THAT bad of competition in Texas?!

Dirk? tmay?

He went to southlake. which is crazy good. and he didnt even play until senior year.

Competition ain't that bad, Carroll is just THAT good. They had won like 4 state titles in a row if im not mistaken.

He played at southlake Carroll. I don't even know if Chase Daniel ever lost a game there.

Bama will not be as good as they are if they don't get some playmakers asap. the backfield will be stacked but losing those stars on D will hurt a lot andMcelroy and those WRs will continue to hurt this offense

The thing about that Carroll program...they basically run the same exact offense and defense starting in elementary school and on up throughjunior high and high school. So those kids run that system for 8 years before they even get to high school.

McElroy didn't really have any huge names around him when he was there. The only person that people would probably know is Tre Newton. Southlake had 10 D-1signees on that team his senior year, with 7 on the offensive side, butif I told you their names, you wouldn't have a clue who they were...they went toschools like Rice, BYU, TCU, Navy, etc. The competition that he played against really wasn't bad at all, but that Southlake team just played solid ballevery game.

And yes, it's true that McElroy hasn't lost a game that he's started since junior high.

At one point they had won three out of four state titles.

those are gonna be great games

I don't think it's particularly big but Clemson plays at Auburn, I believe.

Not sure if you'd consider these "big" OOC games, but Houston plays @ UCLA, @ Texas Tech, and vs. Mississippi State.

ND fans are going to absolutely hate this dude. I wonder if he's going to
try the 3-4 there like he did at UC? Maybe it will be more successful at ND, but Diaco's bend but don't break defense at UC was abysmal. He was
definitely the worse hire that Kelly made while he was at UC. It was worse because Kelly fired Joe Tresey to bring Diaco on at UC. Soft zone D, which was
absolutely exposed numerous times this year.
Kelly is trying to absolutely ruin any chance he had before he even starts.

Diaco sucked at UC, but he was coming to a team that had just lost 10 defensive starters and he switched from a 4-3 to a 3-4. However, the defense gotprogressively worse as the season went on instead of better. 89 points given up to UCONN and Pitt alone. Big numbers on the ground given up to Ryan Matthews atFresno State. It looks like he's bringing the 3-4 with him based on the interview when he was hired.
On his defensive scheme:
"It bases out of a 3-4. We've created a system where we go quickly from three down linemen to four down linemen and we can get that reduced player wherever we need it to be. That's part of the overall package. One great thing about basing out of a 3-4 is the element that the offense doesn't know where the fourth rusher will be coming from. A fourth rusher can come from the field. A fourth rusher can come from the boundary. A fourth rusher can come from the inside."

I'm not sure how he was at UVA under Al Groh, but Cincinnati fans couldn't be any more happy to see him leave.

Yup. He's bringing Chuck Martin who was the head coach at GVSU, where Kelly started at. He's only going to be the DB coach, and he had a 74-7 recordreplacing Kelly at GVSU so I don't think that is a bad hire. I'm really surprised that ND allowed him to bring these small name guys in, but they mustbe a little more cash strapped since they still owe Weis a lot of money.
