Kobe Bryant went to 7 Finals, and won 2 MVPs... one of which belongs to Ron Artest.

That is my DUDE!

I'm sure I've got some of you completely confused… complementing Kobe's work ethic and adaptability while also saying things that makes you want to group me with a bunch of people who would never compliment him… well let me confuse you more. That night in Indiana, Malice at the Palace, that's when I became the Ron Artest fan I am today. Like, I thought he was alright before, wasn't a huge fan, whatever. But that Malice at the Palace? I couldn't help but continue watching that footage thinking "Yep, I effs with that dude. That's my guy." Then the "No layups!" In Sacto. Ron-Ron
smokin.gif
And I mean, I'm not feeling this Metta World Peace foolishness, but whatever.

Agreed. But check this out:

*grabs toolbox*

*takes out screwdriver*

Alright, let's change this a little bit here, make an adjustment over there… aaaand…

"MJ Kobe fans are some of the worst fans. Brain washed by media. MJ Kobe get a pass for everything despite being a complete douche on and off the court

Now, obviously, I'm sure you didn't mean all MJ fans, and I don't mean all Kobe fans, but you get the point; blind, diehard Kobe fans hate blind, diehard MJ fans without realizing how similar they are.
laugh.gif

I respect a lot of your posts on here. But that doesn't work.
Because during MJ's time throughout his career. The sports media was a hella of a different BEAST and was nowhere near the sensationalizing way it is today.

The fact was back then if a media reporter local or national tried or published anything NEGATIVE about MJ in the press they were seriously BLACK BALLED for the rest of their careers.

See what happened to Sam Smith who was a long time Chiago sports  media writer and covered MJ & The Bulls during MJ Prime and during the time MJ was taking 1st round exits.

After dude published and released:

He got black balled and his career as a sports reporter was never the same.

That's the type of protection MJ got from the press back then.

Nowadays the usual media ESPN or local media etc... looks for any small thing to throw Kobe under the bus.

Sure, there are obviously some highlights of a block on Steve Nash here, a strip of Garnett in the paint there… but you're talking like there was this chunk of time where Kobe made the opponent's best player a non-factor. That chunk of time only exists in your imagination. Period.

Lies.

Go back and watch the 2008 Olympics.

You know damn well Kobe was a beast and shut down the rest of the worlds best defenders during the Olympics and Coach K was saying Kobe was the one leading team USA with his D and was leading by example.
You're absolutely right. 'Twas a beautiful thing.
smokin.gif

And you and I both know that's not what LeItShine was talking about; I highly doubt that when he mentioned 'Kobe in his prime', he was just talking about 'summer 2008'.

So again, this era/period of Kobe's prime where he locked down the opponent's best player, that chunk of time only exists in your imagination, LetItShine (except for summer 2008).
Im not saying he did it on a nightly basis but I know for a fact there are numerous instances when he would lock down the opponents best player during 05-09. We all know his defense was one exceptional in his prime, but no so much anymore

Was in the middle of another lengthy reply, but changed my mind.

You're absolutely right: only diehard, blind MJ fans are annoying. Those pesky rascals.
laugh.gif

Seriously from 1996 to 2002 only thing local & national media was BLASTING & SLAMMING Kobe for was his shot selection or his relationship on & off the court with Shaq
Fast forward to the aftermath of the Colorado incident  to his press conference @ Staples Center with Vanessa by his side and him in tears saying he was innocent.

It was free reign & bombs away at attacking & crucifying Kobe for everything under the sun.

I SERIOUSLY can't remember any other athlete who's EVER had to deal with being critic-ed from everyone on this planet

Starting to deflect & get a little defensive because I've been able to reply to your posts with truth & logic on the stuff your claiming or alluding to be facts.

I agree man..
Even in his younger days dude was a elite defender but picked his spots when he wanted to play complete LOCK DOWN D like the glove or a defensive specialist like Bruce Bowen, Raja Bell. And it was usually against a ELITE player during that time in his career (AI, T-Mac, Vince Carter)

See what he did to AI in the 2001 Finals when dude seriously stuck to him like White On Rice & had a BLOCK PARTY on AI
laugh.gif

The problem I have with discussing the subject of defense or why I stay out of the yearly 1st & 2nd team all defensive squads threads is that NT'ers seriously expect whoever and especially Kobe makes those teams that the players play like a defensive specialist for 48 minutes & 82 games a season
laugh.gif

Yet when Lebron made it the usual NT Lebron legions were out saying he's now a elite defender
laugh.gif
laugh.gif

I mean you do a search of videos on youtube and Lebron's D has greatly improved but at the same lets be real here his D is when he's playing help D and getting easy blocks or hustling down court to block a SG or PG going in for a layup.

Seriously NT show & prove to me one current ELITE player in the league who plays lock down D like a defensive specialist for a full 48 minutes and full season.

And you NT'ers can't and have to use another player besides Dwight Howard

Aaaaaabsolutely. Because I'm sure that if I've proven one thing in the last few pages, it's that I get defensive when facts are thrown out.
laugh.gif
I haven't given props to anyone who has come through validating their claim with facts. Nope, not me. I hate facts. They make me all… defensive. See? Here I am getting all defensive right here; must be because of the facts you used. Can't be because of anything else.

Very well then.
Essential1:

This is the sort of open-minded objectivity I like chopping it up with. Like I said before all these essays started getting thrown out by me and CP and whoever else: there are those who are argumentative just to be argumentative, and they'll argue with anyone who disagrees with them about anything… … and there are those who are argumentative because they enjoy a good debate, which means realizing that if the person they are debating with has a staunch, cemented, narrow-minded opinion, that won't be a good debate; there's no point in engaging. Let that one go. "Both teams played hard."

at Kobe the only athlete that gets critiqued by everyone for everything. Ever. Maaaaaaaaaan, come on.

Ok let me clarify then.
Has there anyone been critiqued  as hard on the level he's dealt with?

I'm talking from his high school days to to the present?

The only atheltes to come to mind that's on that level is maybe Barry Bonds or Lance Armstrong.

^ I agree with you man.

Just look at this thread.

And the majority of us are Kobe fans and obviously Laker fans.

We're coming off a win and a good game from Kobe and there's more chatter about him going on than when he shot 6 for 28.

Since drafting Kobe Bryant in 1996, the Lakers are 6-23 in Portland in the regular season, falling to the Trail Blazers year after year, whether rain or hail or the occasional burst of sunshine as their bus pulls into the oversized garage.

eek.gif

CP. I don't care what means you got to do: heckle, harass, do vodoo or witchcraft, our put sugar in Aldrige's gas tank or pop his tires  to get us a W tomorrow night
laugh.gif

Are you going to be at the game tomorrow?

Phil Jackson used to blame the weather. Then he blamed the team's semiannual visits to the Nike store in nearby Beaverton. Then he went back to blaming the weather.

Oh also I just got to say.
Thank god tomorrow's game is on TNT so that we don't have to suffer through listening to those 2 clowns on the Blazers TV network or put the game on mute while watching the Blazers home broadcast on NBA League Pass.

Hopefully it isn't Reggie Miller

 working the game on TNT.

I know I know I'm getting greedy now

I'll give a little credit and say Reggie has improved a little over the past 2 seasons on TNT.

Now would be a good time call up your local neighborhood bookie or if you live in Vegas go hit up a sports book at one of the casinos and put  a couple C notes on the Blazers winning tomorrow night

It's pretty much a stone cold lock pick for gamblers.

laugh.gif

from the Clyde Drexler days, to the JR Rider days, to the Steve Smith/Scottie Pippen days, and to Brandon Roy era...   We never do good over there
laugh.gif
Its like we get rattled or suffocated by their high pitched loud screaming fans

So whats the deal with Greg Oden?

Not to sound mean or malicious... But is dude still alive
laugh.gif

Most NT Laker fans view & think of Bynum as a walking glass man or nightmare waiting to happen again
laugh.gif

Now meet Greg Oden
30t6p3b.gif

It's pretty sad to see what's happened to dude over the past couple years.

Oh man, I just realized the possibility of CP3, Kobe, Pau, Blake, Bynum

Forget East vs. West

Straight East vs. Staples Center, baby.
