2008 NT Boxing Post Vol. Oscar De La Hoya vs. Manny Pacquiao 12/6/08 HBO PPV

turns out Casamayor is a Goldenboy fighter which I didn't realize and they were also all rooting for him of course.
Isn't Katsdisis a Golden-Boy fighter as well?

I guess Oscar is serious about what he plans to do in 08. He wasn't even ringside for JMM/Pac-Man.

P.S. Request for change of thread title? 19 days until Miguel Angel' Cotto returns to HBO. All in favor, say I...

LOS ANGELES -- Zab Judah is so sure he's going to stop Shane Mosley he's willing to put his money on it.

Judah offered to bet Mosley $100,000 that he's going to win their welterweight bout at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas on May 31 by knockout.

"That's free money," the 30-year-old Judah said Monday at a news conference to publicize the fight. "If he's so confident and so much in shape, then why didn't he take it? The last time I put a $100,000 bet on the table was against Corey Spinks. What did I do? I knocked him out."

Judah is 36-5 with 25 knockouts.

"He's getting knocked out May 31," Judah said. "He's older now and he's not as fast. I've been talking to Winky [Wright] and Vernon [Forrest] and they tell me his punching power is not the same. I'm a 100 percent better fighter."

The 36-year-old Mosley held the WBC and WBA light-middleweight championships from September 2003 to March 2004. Mosley, from nearby Pomona, also owned the IBF lightweight title from 1997-99 and the WBC welterweight belt from 2000-02.

"It doesn't matter what he says or what's going on in his mind," said Mosley, 44-5 with 37 knockouts. "I have a mission. I have a goal and my goal is to destroy anything in front of me. Nobody is going to stand in my way."

Mosley agreed the bout won't go the full 12 rounds, but sees a different outcome than his opponent.

"Honestly, I don't see the fight going the distance," Mosley said. "Zab is a great athlete. I think he's very fast and he's got good punching power. But how long can his mind keep up? How long can he stay focused in the ring?"

Judah was the undisputed world welterweight champion for 11 months until losing the WBC and WBA belts to Carlos Baldomir in January 2006. He retained the IBF title for three months until being beaten by Floyd Mayweather Jr.

After that IBF title fight, the Nevada Athletic Commission fined and suspended Judah and his trainer for one year because of a mid-bout confrontation involving the corners of the two fighters. Judah returned to the ring last April.

The card is being promoted by Oscar de la Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions.

Spinks and Cunningham have been together for a long time, pretty suprising. Wonder if this will effect Devon Alexander's training situation at all.

Edwin Valero v. Pac-Man............

.................We need this. Always wondered how Joe Mesi was able to get re-licensed/re-instated but Valero had to wait so damn long. Hopefully this leads to big things.

Good news on Valero. Part of the reason i think Mesi got re-instated quicker was simply because Mesi pushed harder for the reinstatement. Valero wascakin' in Japan, so the urgerncy to get cleared in America wasn't that high. Now that real big money is on the line with a potential fight againstManny, Valero's camp tried to push forward and got it.

Mosley is going to beat Judah by breaking down his body and then knock Judah out by the late rounds propbably in the 9th round.

Shane's words don't really flow too smoothly these days. Obviously when you get punched in the head for a living you aren't expected to have thegreatest of motor skills but he seems to be one who will be on the bad side of things.

Zab is a comedian. He has to promote the hell outta this fight. Oh, whois he promoted by these days? I know his deal w/ King ended on bad terms.

i missed this. to bad there chins are 100% better then yours

Vernon? Chin? Mayorga rocked him many a time in both of their fights. And to this day, I still don't know how the hell he got that decision over Quartey.

Ivan Calderon...so underrated it's sad. If only he fought at ahigher weight class.

Juan Diaz and Golden Boy Promotions, together at last.
Eighteen months after manager Willie Savannah announced that Diaz, then a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Main Events, would sign with Golden Boy and then reneged a week later to sign Diaz with Don King, Diaz inked a promotional contract with Golden Boy on Tuesday. Financial terms of the deal, which included a signing bonus, were not disclosed but Savannah told ESPN.com that the agreement goes through December 2010 and calls for Diaz to fight eight times -- twice more this year and three times in each of 2009 and 2010. "And I am hoping it lasts through Juan's career," Savannah said of the deal. Diaz (33-1, 17 KOs) is just 17 days removed from losing his trio of 135-pound world titles on a decision to Nate Campbell in a major upset in Cancun, Mexico. The fight marked the end of Diaz's rocky four-fight road with King. Although Diaz, 24, earned about $3 million with King, who secured him two unification fights, King and Savannah clashed from the start. By the end, they weren't speaking to each other and King had taken to lambasting him in public. Diaz didn't want to dwell on the past. "I'm excited to be on the Golden Boy Promotions roster and I can't wait to get back in the ring with Oscar [De La Hoya] and his team behind me," Diaz said. "I've gained a lot of experience over the last couple of years, in and out of the ring, and I can't wait to prove to boxing fans that I'm the best lightweight in the world." Golden Boy boss De La Hoya said: "I don't think there's a more exciting young fighter out there than Juan Diaz and I'm glad we're finally working together. We've got big plans for Juan and we can't wait to start putting him into the mega fights he deserves to be in." De La Hoya recently purchased part of the Houston Dynamo of Major League Soccer, so his company's presence in Houston made signing the city's top active fighter a natural. Savannah recently signed two of his amateurs, lightweight Hylon Williams and Ricardo Tristan, with Golden Boy and is relieved to have Diaz with the company also. "Very relieved," said Savannah, who said he regretted signing with King. "A lot of other promoters made proposals to sign Juan and I wanted to go with each of them, but after meeting with [Golden Boy CEO] Richard [Schaefer] in Las Vegas at the Pacquiao-Marquez fight [on March 15], I felt pretty comfortable. We've been talking for the past couple of weeks. I have a good feeling about it. I felt very comfortable with Richard. I told him over the weekend we better wrap this thing up because you know how I am. It's a good fit I think." Diaz suffered a cut on his left eyelid in the loss to Campbell and needed nine stitches. Savannah said he hopes Diaz will be able to return in July or September for his first fight for Golden Boy followed by another bout in December. "Pardon the pun, but Golden Boy Promotions is the gold standard when it comes to boxing promotion and I'm confident that this is the only team that can take Juan to where he needs to go in this sport," Savannah said.

I'm still ridin' with Juan.

With them both being Golden Boy fighters, Casamayor/Diaz would probably happen before Casamayor/Campbell. I prefer to see him matched up with Kadsidis w/ thewinner facing the winner of Casamayor/Campbell...if that EVER comes off.

EDIT: Random thought but with Jermain Taylor movin' up to 168, Kessler is busy with Miranda...what about Taylor/Andrade?

I don't like Andrade at all he doesn't have the skill to box Taylor.

Andrade is too wild and would lose like Kessler did to him.

I don't know though, Andrade punches HARD and Taylor can be caught. Taylor won't be able to get rid of him so he'll have to stay out of danger forthe full 12. I'm not sure if Jermain could do it.

By Mark Vester

It appears the mouthwatering slugfest between super middleweights Mikkel Kessler and Edison Miranda, scheduled for May 24 and televised by Showtime - is off.

Dan Rafael spoke with Leon Margules of Warriors Boxing, which promotes Miranda and promoter Lou DiBella, who brokered the deal for Kessler's promoter Mogens Palle - and neither had a reason as to why Kessler withdrew from the fight. According to Rafael, both sides agreed to a deal on March 14, and then on Wednesday, Kessler's agent, Michael Marley, told Showtime that the fight was off.

"The Kessler people haven't given me an explanation," Margules said. I'm outraged. If their explanation is that we didn't meet their deal points, I have their points in writing. Everything was in the contract that they asked for. They wanted it to be a 10-round fight. We gave them that because they wouldn't even discuss a 12-rounder. They insisted on all sorts of things and we gave them everything."

Also, Kessler was to be paid 400,000 Euros (approximately $600,000 U.S.) and Palle would retain lucrative television rights in Scandinavia, Germany and other territories.

"They took the fight and then they backed out," Margules said. "We had a deal in writing, and although it was not signed yet, we all said, 'We have a deal.' Showtime even had the fight on its Web site. Everything was worked out and my fighter was in camp. And then, no fight."

DiBella told Rafael that he was equally disgusted with the outcome.

"I was dealing with Mogens Palle and Mike Marley. I should have expected no less," DiBella said. "I found this fight for Kessler at the request of Mogens and I spent a lot of time working on it. We sent them a contract reflecting everything they asked for. But then Mike wouldn't take my calls for a week and Mogens has been ill."

"No one ever came back with comments on the contract and then Mike called [Showtime's] Ken Hershman directly and blamed me, saying the contract didn't reflect the deal. Then Ken asked him why they never came back with comments on the contract and Mike changed his tune and said that Kessler had some other opportunity for a world title fight. Which is it?"
