2 star WR has been putting in work the past two weeks.

We got GT next in Atlanta. I'll be there, but I'm kinda worried. I think were going to win, but I hate having them right after their coming off of an@@% whooping.

Miami/VT should be a sick one.

ACC Power Rankings: Week 4

September 21, 2009 9:00 AM

Posted by ESPN.com's Heather Dinich

Some shuffling was in order this week, including at the bottom. Duke lost and still moved up a notch. How? Because Duke lost on the road to a Top-25 team, and Maryland lost at home to Middle Tennessee. And because I think Duke will beat Maryland when those teams play in October. Here's how the rest of this week's lineup looks, with a new leader at the top:

1. Miami (2-0, 2-0 ACC): After two wins against ranked ACC opponents, the Canes are the team to beat. They can solidify this spot by unseating the defending ACC champs in Lane Stadium on Saturday night.

2. Virginia Tech (2-1): This team looks too much like last year's -- no real offense but still finding a way to get the win. The Hokies took advantage of a young Nebraska team and held the Huskers to five field goals, but will have to produce more offensively against Miami this weekend.

3. Florida State (2-1, 0-1): One week after almost -- almost -- imploding at home against Jacksonville State, FSU shut its naysayers up with a 54-28 BYU beatdown. It was the most points the program had scored since joining the ACC in 1992. Christian Ponder said after the game it was the first time in a while they had played as a whole team. Amazing what that can do.

4. North Carolina (3-0): The Tar Heels found their offense against a scrappy ECU team, and they did it without a few of their key players. They'll either be catching Georgia Tech at the right time -- when it's down -- or the wrong time - when it's a bit angry about it.

5. Georgia Tech (2-1, 1-1): Not only did the Jackets lose to Miami on national TV Thursday night, but they also seemed to regress in the process. The problems seem to be up front, but Jacory Harris also had his way with Georgia Tech's secondary, and the Jackets' offense stalled.

6. Clemson (2-1, 1-1): Technically, the Tigers are leading the Atlantic Division, but so far their best win is against an undermanned Boston College team. Still, anyone who has watched this team has seen it has the skill and speed -- not to mention the outstanding defense needed -- to maintain its spot at the top of the heap.

7. Wake Forest (2-1): The Deacs laughed off Elon and have back-to-back wins to build off of heading into a road trip to Chestnut Hill. And considering Boston College had just 54 yards of total offense in its loss to Clemson, Wake Forest's young defense should get a confidence boost this week.

8. NC State (2-1): It's time to find out who this Wolfpack team really is. After an unimpressive offensive performance against South Carolina in the season opener, NC State has unleashed Russell Wilson on two inferior opponents. This weekend's game against Pitt will be more revealing.

9. Boston College (2-1, 0-1): Clemson's defense smothered the Eagles, exposed their true weaknesses at quarterback, and was simply too much to overcome. The Eagles were up against superior athletes, and it showed.

10. Duke (1-2): The Blue Devils just aren't ready to upend a Top-25 team, but there's no shame in that in David Cutcliffe's second year. Duke should pick up its second win of the season this weekend against NC Central. Should.

11. Maryland (1-2): The Terps lost on a field goal as the clock expired, but they still lost. At home. With four turnovers. And just one week after barely beating James Madison in overtime. If Maryland is struggling this mightily against schools from non-AQ conferences, the Terps are going to have a long, losing conference season ahead.

12. Virginia (0-3): The Cavaliers have a much-needed bye week to regroup from an awful start to the season. They were fortunate to capitalize on Southern Miss fumbles and penalties and lead until the fourth quarter, but weren't able to hang onto it.

We're the better team. Homerism aside we might be better at every position than VT.

ACC is *#$#%$* ******ed I swear.

Nah, when healthy, VT has y'all @ CB. And Worilds > every DE on your roster. And of course Sergio Render @ OG.

I think their best corner is injured. If you go by position group though.....I think we got them.

They have us on special teams though as bad as our kickoff coverage has been.

I think their D has given up a 100yd rusher in every game this season too.

On paper.....this is a blowout. We'll see though.

Just need the paper to translate into reality.

Should be interesting to see how the season progresses for y'all boys.

Sept. 21, 2009

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Florida State junior guard Rodney Hudson, true-freshman cornerback Greg Reid and Miami sophomore quarterback Jacory Harris headline a list of this week's Atlantic Coast Conference Players of the Week. Other winners include two-time recipient Ryan Williams of Virginia Tech, Clemson senior defensive end Ricky Sapp and junior place kicker Richard Jackson.

Hudson and Reid helped lead the Seminoles to a 54-28 upset win against seventh-ranked Brigham Young on Saturday (Sept. 19), a win which vaulted Florida State to No. 18 in the most current Associated Press Top-25. Harris took in his second honor of the season in helping the Hurricanes to a 33-17 win against No. 14 Georgia Tech on Thursday night (Sept. 17) in front of a national television audience on ESPN, a win that propelled Miami to a No. 9 AP ranking, the Hurricanes' first top-10 ranking since 2005.

Sapp helped the Clemson defense post numbers the program has not seen in 20 years, while Jackson tied an ACC record with six field goals in a 25-7 win against Boston College. Williams helped the Hokies to a win against 19th-ranked Nebraska.

OFFENSIVE BACK - Jacory Harris, Miami, QB, So., 6-4, 190, Miami, Fla. (Northwestern)
For the second time in three weeks, Miami sophomore quarterback Jacory Harris was selected as the ACC Offensive Back of the Week. Both of Harris' selections in 2009 have come after performances in prime time games - after a 38-34 win at No. 18 Florida State (Sept. 5) and a stellar game in a 33-17 win against 14th-ranked Georgia Tech last Thursday night (Sept. 17) on ESPN. Harris helped Miami to its second straight conference win by completing 20-of-25 passes-a career-high 80.0 percent completion rate-for 270 yards, and three touchdowns. The sophomore signal caller completed a career-long 40-yard touchdown aerial to sophomore wide receiver LaRon Byrd in the opening quarter and has completed at least 20 passes in three straight games, dating back to last season's finale.

OFFENSIVE LINEMAN - Rodney Hudson, Florida State, G, Jr., 6-2, 283, Mobile, Ala. (BC Rain)
Florida State guard Rodney Hudson became the second Seminole in as many weeks to be named ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week - joining senior tight end Caz Piurowski - in helping the Seminole offense rack up 54 points against seventh-ranked Brigham Young. The junior graded out at 88 percent and helped anchor an offensive line that paved the way for 313 rushing yards, the most for Florida State since a 397-yard output against Virginia in 2002. Additionally, Hudson was not penalized and provided plenty of protection for junior quarterback Christian Ponder, who was not sacked in the win.
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN - Ricky Sapp, Clemson, DE, Sr., 6-4, 245, Bamberg, S.C. (Bamberg-Ehrhardt)
Clemson senior defensive end Ricky Sapp became the second Tiger to take home ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week honors (Brandon Maye in week one) for helping the Clemson defense post numbers that the program has not seen in 20 years in a 25-7 win against Boston College. Sapp had four tackles, including three for losses of 18 yards, and two sacks. He also forced a fumble and tallied two quarterback hurries. More impressively, however, he helped the defense limit the Eagle offense to four first downs, the fewest by a Tiger opponent since 1989, and 54 yards of total offense, the fewest allowed since 1963, and Clemson's second-lowest total against an ACC team.

DEFENSIVE BACK - Greg Reid. Florida State, CB, Fr., 5-9, 175, Valdosta, Ga. (Lowndes)
Florida State true-freshman cornerback Greg Reid kept the Seminoles' first-half momentum in its favor by beginning the second half with a 63-yard interception return for a touchdown in a 54-28 upset win against seventh-ranked Brigham Young. Reid jumped an inside pass route and picked off Brigham Young quarterback Max Hall's pass-one of three miscues forced by the 'Nole defense in the game-and raced 63 yards to extend Florida State's lead to 23 points. He also recorded two tackles and a quarterback hurry on defense and returned three kickoffs for a total of 71 yards (23.7 yards per return). Reid leads the Florida State defense with two interceptions in 2009.

SPECIALIST - Richard Jackson, Clemson, PK, Jr., 5-11, 190, Greer, S.C., (Riverside)
Clemson junior placekicker Richard Jackson is the second Clemson specialist this season to earn ACC Specialist of the Week honors (C.J. Spiller in week one) after tying an ACC single-game record with six field goals and tying a school record with 19 total points in a 25-7 win against Boston College. Despite all-day rain and two lightning delays, Jackson was a perfect six-for-six on field goal tries and converted attempts from 23, 33, 32, 52, 42, and 35 yards. His 52-yarder tied for the second-longest field goal in the ACC this season and makes Jackson the first Clemson kicker since 1990 to kick a 50-yard field goal in two straight games. Jackson is the only player in the nation to have kicked six field goals in a game this season and leads the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision with 3.7 field goals per game this season.

Sept. 14, 2009

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Comeback is the common theme shared between this week's list of Atlantic Coast Conference Players of the Week as five of six honorees helped their teams to come-from-behind wins in the fourth quarter. Wake Forest senior signal caller Riley Skinner headlines the list after guiding Wake Forest to the seventh comeback victory of his career and a record-setting day, along with Duke senior cornerback Leon Wright, who scored two defensive touchdowns in a 16-second span to help Duke overcome Army.

Georgia Tech junior defensive end Derrick Morgan and junior kicker Scott Blair made the most of their ESPN Thursday night game by holding off Clemson, 30-27, in a primetime classic that saw Clemson freshman quarterback Kyle Parker have the best rookie performance of the week.

OFFENSIVE BACK - Riley Skinner, Wake Forest, QB, Sr., 6-1, 210, Jacksonville, Fla. (The Bolles School)

Wake Forest senior quarterback Riley Skinner engineered the seventh fourth-quarter game-winning drive of his career in a 24-17 win against Stanford. Skinner completed 18-of-26 passes for 187 yards and a touchdown; ran for 21 yards on four carries; and caught one pass for 20 yards. With the Demon Deacons trailing, 17-10, in the fourth quarter, Skinner found teammate Jordan Williams for a nine-yard touchdown pass to cap a 14-play and 73-yard drive to tie the game, 17-17. Then, with 3:49 to play and 91 yards away from the endzone, Skinner led the Deacs downfield by completing all four of his passes on the drive for 65 yards and scored on a one-yard run to give Wake the win. With his 18 completions, Skinner now has 677 in his career, the most in Wake Forest history.

OFFENSIVE LINEMAN - Caz Piurowski, Florida State, TE, Sr., 6-7, 267, Land 'O Lakes, Fla. (Land 'O Lakes)

Florida State senior tight end Caz Piurowski hauled in two passes for a career-high 78 yards, including a 53-yard catch that led to Florida State's first touchdown of the game in a 19-9 win against Jacksonville State. The 53-yarder was the longest reception for a Seminole tight end since Lonnie Johnson's 78-yard touchdown reception against Clemson in 1993. Piurowski also helped anchor a line that led the Seminole offense to more than 400 yards for the second straight game.

spacer.gif

DEFENSIVE LINEMAN - Derrick Morgan, Georgia Tech, DE, Jr., 6-4, 275, Coatesville, Pa. (Coatesville)
Georgia Tech junior defensive end Derrick Morgan had a career night in Georgia Tech's 30-27 win against Clemson on Thursday night in front of a national television audience on ESPN. Morgan had a game-high 10 tackles, a personal-best four tackles for loss (13 yards), and three sacks (nine yards). Additionally, he helped the defensive front pressure the Clemson offense into forcing two interceptions and holding off a Tiger comeback after Georgia Tech led 24-0 midway through the second quarter.

DEFENSIVE BACK - Leon Wright, Duke, CB, Sr., 5-8, 175, St. Petersburg, Fla. (Northeast)

Duke senior cornerback Leon Wright had one of the best defensive games nationally on Saturday as he returned two interceptions for touchdowns, recovered a fumble, and tallied four tackles in Duke's 35-19 come-from-behind win against Army. With Duke clinging to a 21-13 fourth-quarter lead and Army with the ball with just 1:48 remaining, Wright picked off a pass and returned it 51 yards - the 15th longest return in school history - for the score and a Duke win. Adding insult to injury, Wright intercepted another pass on Army's next offensive play and took it 33 yards downfield for his second defensive touchdown of the afternoon and third of his career, which places him in a tie for first in Duke history.

SPECIALIST - Scott Blair, Georgia Tech, K, Jr., 6-0, 198, Calhoun, Ga. (Calhoun)

Georgia Tech junior kicker Scott Blair converted a game-tying and game-winning field goal in the fourth quarter to cap a come-from-behind win for the 15th-ranked Yellow Jackets over Clemson, 30-27. After the Tigers scored 27 unanswered points to take a 27-24 lead early in the fourth quarter, Blair tied the game with a 34-yard field goal to cap a 12-play and 69-yard drive, then sealed the win with his game-winning 36-yarder. Blair also kicked a 24-yarder in the second quarter, converted all three of his point-after-touchdown tries, and even threw a touchdown pass to teammate Demaryius Thomas in the first quarter.

ROOKIE - Kyle Parker, Clemson, QB, Fr., 6-0, 210, Jacksonville, Fla. (Bartram Trail)

Clemson redshirt-freshman quarterback Kyle Parker became the second Tiger freshman to throw three touchdown passes in a single game in a near comeback against Georgia Tech, a 30-27 loss. Parker completed 15-of-31 passes for 261 yards and three touchdowns, including aerial strikes of 63 yards to C.J. Spiller and 77 yards to Jacoby Ford. After trailing 24-0 just five minutes into the second quarter, Parker led the Tiger offense to 27 unanswered points and a 27-24 Clemson win, but another Player of the Week performance by Georgia Tech's Scott Blair outlasted the Tigers.

Sept. 8, 2009

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Miami sophomore quarterback Jacory Harris headlines a list of six players selected as Atlantic Coast Conference football players of the week at their respective positions, announced Tuesday by the ACC, after throwing for a career-high 386 yards and two touchdowns on 21-of-34 passing in Miami's 38-34 upset of No. 18 Florida State in Tallahassee.

Harris is joined by Hurricane teammate Brandon Harris, the defensive back selection. Clemson also appeared on the list twice as senior running back C.J. Spiller and sophomore linebacker Brandon Maye were selected as a specialist and defensive lineman, respectively. The group is joined by North Carolina's Alan Pelc (offensive lineman) and Virginia Tech's Ryan Williams (rookie).
  • OFFENSIVE BACK - Jacory Harris, Miami, QB, So., 6-4, 190, Miami, Fla. (Northwestern)
Harris threw for a career-high 386 yards and completed 21-of-34 passes for two touchdowns and ran for another score in leading Miami to a 38-34 upset win at No. 18 Florida State. Making his first career start against the Seminoles and third overall, Harris' 386 yards were the most by a Miami quarterback in the storied rivalry between the in-state foes and the 10th-highest single-game total in school history. Harris capped the night by leading Miami on a six-play and 59-yard scoring drive for the eventual game-winning touchdown.
  • OFFENSIVE LINEMAN - Alan Pelc, North Carolina, G, Jr., 6-6, 325, Houston, Texas (Pearland)
North Carolina junior offensive guard Alan Pelc graded out at 90 percent and had seven knockdown blocks in No. 21 North Carolina's 40-6 win over The Citadel. Pelc anchored an offensive line that led the Tar Heels to 261 rushing yards, the first time they have broken the 200-yard mark since 2006 and the most since a 285-yard outburst against Duke in 2004. UNC had three players rush for at least 40 yards (Shaun Draughn 118, Ryan Houston 45, Jamal Womble 41) on the ground behind the Pelc-led offensive line.
  • DEFENSIVE LINEMAN - Brandon Maye, Clemson, LB, So., 6-2, 230, Mobile, Ala. (Davidson)
Maye tallied a game-high 13 tackles, including five solo stops, in the Tigers' 37-14 win against Middle Tennessee. He also had one tackle for a loss of 14 yards, forced a fumble, and hauled in his first career interception. Maye anchored a Tiger defense that allowed just seven points and forced three turnovers. Normally wearing number 20, he donned number 17 for this game in honor of teammate Stanley Hunter, who has given up football due to epilepsy.
  • DEFENSIVE BACK - Brandon Harris, Miami, DB, So., 5-11, 195, Miami, Fla. (Booker T. Washington)
Miami sophomore defensive back Brandon Harris had a game- and career-high nine tackles (three solo) and broke up two passes against Florida State. Clinging to a 38-34 lead with Florida State on the Miami two-yard line with nine seconds remaining, Harris defended a Christian Ponder pass to help seal the win for the Hurricanes.
  • SPECIALIST - C.J. Spiller, Clemson, RB/KR, Sr., 5-11, 195, Lake Butler, Fla. (Union County)
Spiller made the most of his first touch of the 2009 season by returning the opening kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown, an ACC-record fourth kick return of his career, against Middle Tennessee. Spiller added two punt returns for a total of 63 yards, including a career-long 50-yarder that led to another Tiger score. All this was done in the first half, as the Heisman candidate sat out the second half.
  • ROOKIE - Ryan Williams, Virginia Tech, RB, Fr., 5-9, 205, Manassas, Va. (Stonewall Jackson)
Freshman running back Ryan Williams totaled 113 all-purpose yards in his collegiate debut as he rushed for a team-high 71 yards and two touchdowns, including a 32-yard scamper down the sideline for a score in Virginia Tech's 34-24 loss to No. 5 Alabama. He also caught two passes for a team-high 42 yards.

I hope RS can keep the team focused this week. I really don't like the #9 ranking and I hope the guys don't get a big head. VTech is always tough athome and they'll come out with energy and enthusiasm to take Miami out.

Why not..we deserve it.

I think RS and Jacory can keep them level headed.

This is sad that we as canes fans are nervous to be ranked in the top 10

If we get thru these next two games unscathed, then I will feel legit, not until then.

But I do see the light at the end of the tunnel at least. From this hell I live in, where Oregon fans think they can start comparing themselves to theUniversity of Miami football program.

I just wanna keep seeing good games in the ACC. I don't care which conference is the best, I'm not gonna go chanting my conference's name, but aslong as things stay interesting, I'm cool.

I think Miami will finish the season pretty strong, I'd just hold off on getting too cocky if I was a Canes fan. A lot of football left to be played andanything can happen.

The thing that is hurting the ACCs perception other than our obvious OOC struggles in week 1 is our lacking of a truly elite team on the national level. Not alot of people in the nation saw Miami starting out 2-0. So that definitely bodes well for us. I think the conference is a lot stronger than its perception, butwe always start slow out the gates and get blasted for it (with the prevailing notion for the rest of the season that the ACC is trash).

As for the ACC this week we got some good games:
UNC at GT- As I said earlier, I'm a little concerned that they're coming off a beat down, but I think we can escape with the W. Morgan looked so out ofshape last week, but their 10 day rest should help that. As for us, I think we get Dwight Jones back this week and Erik "Mookie" Highsmith has been apleasant surprise over the past two games. I think our D can shut down GT completely as well.

Miami at VT- Premier ACC game of the week. I'm excited to see how this one plays out especially cause they're both in the Coastal. In the other threadSamgoody wasn't too optimistic about VT so we'll see. I'm still not sold on Miami though. Jacory has played sick thus far, but FSU's defensedidn't look too great in that first game and I think GT started the season overrated.

TCU at Clemson- This should be another good game as well. Hopefully Clemson gets the win for the ACC. Ddot or MBenz what do yall think about this game?

South Florida at FSU- I thought FSU going from unranked to #18 was a huge jump, but they did blow out BYU on the road. Dre whats your take on this match up anddoes NCCU pull off the upset against Duke

Matt Grothe is done for the year. We'll still struggle on D a bit but we should win by 15-20

I wish they would've played this game 'bout 3-4 years ago. Central was nice back then.

Home field advantage is huge for us. Fans basically forced the AD to switch it to a 3:30 game from what had been a 1pm start, should be a littlemore lively.
We could be without our starting LT who is our best OL...if that's the case and Jerry Hughes is lined up over our backup LT, it could be a long dayoffensively.
Our defense has looked pretty stout so far. I definitely don't see TCU putting up 30 points like they did against UVA. It's gonna be up to ouroffense and if we can get 3 TDs plus however many FGs, we're straight. We SUCK in the redzone so far though.
To be honest, I think we can win but it's one of the 4 games I figured as a loss before the season started. Sorry if we don't rep for the ACC thisweekend.

JND1- Nasty avy. If I can find a quality clip of Highsmith catching his teeter in the endzone and blowing that kiss to the ECU crowd I might have to abandon mycurrent avy of 4+ years.
